As long as they dont fly towards me, i really don't care :)

But here's the answer

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

Q : Why do insects fly into a light source and if it's biological, why haven't they evolved away the behavior?

A : Its generally believed that many insects navigate using the moon

and that flying into the light is caused by them mistaking it for moonlight. As regard to the second part of your question evolution does not necessarily work efficiently. I am sure that there would be some varieties of some insects that have wiped themselves out by flying into lights, perhaps even some species. Insect reproduction can be so prolific that if 99% of them cream themselves on your high beams the 1% left may be enough to continue the species. Also collecting around streetlights for example might be advantageous, an insect might collect a mate

Hehe, have you seen "Bugs Life". Watch it and you will know :P. There are two bugs or someother thing, they are same anyways almost, so they were passing by this light, the sort of light which has little electricity running in the wires surrounding it to kill the bugs, so the bugs friend is like no no don't go there. The other bug is hypnotized sort of and is saying oh look how beautiful and then we hear the poor bug shout . . .

While his friend bug says Fateha.

Could it be that they are antagonistic towards light and want to extinguish it?

At least one famed poet in the INdian sub-continent held this view . . .
