Ayatollahs speaking to Imam Mahdi

I was told by some of my shia friends that some Ayatollahs (I guess the one with marjas, but not all) can communicate with Imam Mahdi. I have been also told that Imam Mahdi eats with them and talks to them on issues.

If True:

1)If this is true, why won't the leading marjas ask questions to clear the differences between each other on fiqh?

2) Why keep it a secret, can't they give us some information regarding Imam Mahdi?

3) I have been also told there is a place that a person can meet Imam Mahdi if he really wants to, but has to go through some trail (wait 40 days in a specific place or something)?

If False

1)If it is not true, why do people advertise lies?

Most people see him in dreams. Or he helps someone mysteriously and they realize it was him without actually seeing him. Allama Tabatabai (ra) is said to have seen him and also Imam Khomeini (sa).

1)If this is true, why won't the leading marjas ask questions to clear the differences between each other on fiqh?

They probably do. Allama Majlisi (ra) asked the Imam (as) about some scholarly problems in his dream which he solved. We have the Sahifa Sajjadiya because the Imam (as) told him where to get it.

2) Why keep it a secret, can't they give us some information regarding Imam Mahdi?

What kind of information are you talking about?

I don't know if you can meet him in person (maybe some people can) but there are certain prayers and amaal you can perform if you want to see the Ahlul-Bayt (as) in your dreams.

So when I was told that the some Ayatollahs meet Imam Mahdi in person, it is a lie? It is only in a dream?

I don't want to say no one has ever met Imam Mahdi (as) in person, only Allah knows but in all the accounts I've heard, he met people either in dream or some other indirect way.

They say the same about Masjid e nabawi.

People DO meet him but they cant remember how he looks.

Listen, by writing all the miracles that have taken place regarding not only the twelfth Imam but many other Imams/Imamzadahs as well, I would be sitting here all night.

Inshallah I will post miracles at a later date, one by one. I am lucky to have heard of many, alhamdulillah.

But for present time, lets just say that in all cases the person doesnt remember how the Imam looked and it is often when they are lost that someone helps them back to their hotel (nearly always when they have gone abroad to do ziara') and when they turn around to thank him he has disappeared.

Attention Moderators:Here is where I suggest that you open a "miracles forum" since I, alone, can tell you of many a miracle and many others must be having stories as well. Plus I have found a site with beautiful pictures, all miracles, so please consider this idea. Miracles are one of the many proofs that the Imams existed and that Allah exists.

This issue has been discussed in the book “Imam Al-Mahdi (a.s.)” by Sayyid Sadruddin al-Sadr:

=====

Some of the Sunnis reckon Mahdi's occultation to mean that he is invisible and cannot be seen. However, just as mentioned before, their reckoning is far from truth. Rather, his occultation means that he cannot be individually recognized and seen.

Thus, it has come down in some traditions that after Mahdi's emergence people will say:- 'We used to see him before too.'

Verily Mahdi (as) is absent (amongst us) but attends the gatherings and meetings. He also speaks to the travellers and other people. Rather, very often he presents himself during the hajj season. He wears the 'ehram' (pilgrim's garb), recites the call of 'labbaik', performs the 'tawaaf' (circumbulation) and concludes his hajj by visiting his honored grand-father and great fathers' shrines especially at times of special 'ziarats'. Thus Mahdi is present amongst the Islamic community but is not physically recognized.

One the contrary, we say: who can dare say that during the major occultation it is not possible to come in contact with Mahdi (a.s.) Whereas historical and other books provide us with evidences that a section of people have received the honor of seeing and meeting him. This matter is not inconsistent with the tradition which says: 'if anyone claims that he has seen Mahdi, they reject his saying'.

This is because by context of the first part of the tradition it only means that anyone who claims the special deputyship should be denied.

Rather we can say: Mahdi is one of the members of society and rather the most important member. It is possible that he acts upon his responsibility even though it may not be obligatory for him.

Verily, it is possible that Mahdi may come in contact with the kings, rulers, princes and ministers and make some recommendations to them about reforms, maintenence of order and running of the affairs whether they follow his recommendation or not.

He sits with the jurists, scholars, writers and the learned people and discusses with them such topics as divine theology, moral rectifications and literary matters. In every field, he guides them towards the truth and right way irrespective of whether they act upon his sayings or not. He meets the traditionists, historians, gene and scholars of 'rijal' and guides them to the true saying, truthfulness of the concerned matter, authenticity of relation (of narration) and their incorrectness irrespective of whether they approve his sayings or not.

Talks takes place with the preachers, inviters (towards the divine path), clergymen and guides too and he reveals to them the way of reaching their objective in an easier way be it they act upon it or not.

He visits the helpless, needy, sick and afflicted people and fulfills the wishes of the needy and cures the sick. Mahdi (a.s.) Strives for all these affairs without being recognized and he is never stingy in doing good to others. So it's absurd to say: how people benefit from the hidden imam!?

Verily, very often mahdi (a.s.) Replies to matters having to do with principles and other secondary matters; very often he solves the religious or worldly affairs; very often he cures the sick; how often he delivers the poor; very often he helps the helpless; very often he quenches the thirsty and very often he holds the hands of the disabled.

This book and other books which have been written by reliable scholars (who were not recognizing each other and were living in different places and different times) contain such evidences which bear testimony to the truthfulness of what we have written. A person, after going through the particulars and contexts of these kind of evidences will gain certainty in the veracity of some of them.

Aslamo 3alikum,

Imam (as) donot have any kind of physical contact with anyone.. or if there is any type of such contact then it is concealed, as Imam (as) has said in his letter to the son of Uthman (ra) [his last deputy] that if someone will claim this he is the liar..

People just make up the story to elevate the status of their loved ones (as) .

What you have said is correct but the conclusion is wrong.

Imam (as) does not have any type of contact means that he does not have an appointed representative (naib) who communicates with him regularly, e.g. takes letters to him from people, brings answers back, etc. as it used to be during minor occultation with the 4 naiabs.

But it is well known and documented that Imam (ATF) meets and guides those who need his help. Also the very pious individuals are given the honor of his zyarat.

Aslamo 3alikum,

Welcome Back to the site bro. :)

I think we had this discussion last november also.. :)

What I was saying was that:

NO ONE CAN CLAIM TO HAVE MEET IMAM-e-ZAMAN (aj)

Do you have that letter? it was somewhere on jafariyanews.com but they have deleted it I think :donno:

What made you think I had left the site. :D

NO ONE CAN CLAIM TO HAVE MEET IMAM-e-ZAMAN (aj)

I dont think that there is any harm in a true claim if someone has met the Imam (ATF). There are many such stories of people (both Ulema and common people) who have met the Imam (ATF).

However, it would be wrong for someone to claim that he is his appointed representative "contact person" who is in touch with him.

Seeing him or meeting him and being his "contact person" are two different things.

I have a question - what does being given the honour of his zyarat mean here? Don't most Shias do the Imam's zyarat when they recite zyarat - I think therefore that you mean something else - please clarify - forgive me if I sound foolish.

Another mosque I have heard widely is Masjid-e-Kufa , where if someone prays a certain number of times for a period which is specified, then he will meet Imam Mahdi (as). The ulema have detailed books on these mosques and prayers - Du'a-e-Ahad is said to be very powerful, but there are others perhaps even more powerful. I think it all depends on sincerity.

Regarding contact with the Imam (as) so many reliable believers have through the ages been recorded as saying they have met Imam (as), albeir mainly briefly and in time sof dire need, that it means he does comminicate in this way.

It is said Ayatullah Khomeini (ra) prayed behind Imam Mahdi (as).

Reason why a scholar is never going to say he met Imam(as), but others will say it for him, is because of humility.

I also think there may be an element of mysticism here - either dreams or maybe in conscious state. There is of course the great 'Light within me' (by Ayatullah Khomeini, Allama Tabatabai and Ayatullah Mutahiri) which if read through the lines seems to imply this - in fact I think it states it in a couple of places at least. There is also a book called "The Divine Guide in Early Shi'ism" by Professor Amir Moezzi of the Sorbonne - it's difficult reading as it's very academic - but fascinating and I had to read sections several times to understand it more fully - but the point made very strongly is that individuals have contact with Imam (as) both at a physical level when they really need him e.g. a scholar to ask difficult question, or a person in need of charity, but also in terms of visions.

You can probably get the book via amazon.co.uk. It's a great read, but I disagree with the possibly excessively harsh implications about the role of the ulema (Allah forbid me if I have misinterpreted the author - it's a very detailed book to read and it is possible I got the wrong end of the stick in this area at least).

Sayyid Hossein Nasr's works also mention 'visions' of the Imam (as) by Shias - indeed he says it is a goal of spiritual life, whether we meet Imam (as) or not we should try to make ousrelves pious enough through intentions and actions so as to meet him.

But I get the impression from these books that few meet him even then.

Ya Ali Madath

What is this ziarath of Imam Mahdi (as).

Yes....I agree with the bro'.....what is this ziarath please?

I just thought it was what is said at the shrines and after namaz or after doing zanjeer and sina zani.

By the way I have also heard from more than one person that Ayatullah Khomeini said namaz behind Imam Mahdi (as), and the source was very reliable.

Ziyarah = To see him physically, his face/body

By the way I have also heard from more than one person that Ayatullah Khomeini said namaz behind Imam Mahdi (as), and the source was very reliable.

And what are those reliable sources?

I have heard that Sayyid Khomeini had ilm-e-ghayb (knowledge of unseen) .. so should I believe in what peoples say?

If scholars meet him, then it is impossible (if they aren't forbidden to do so) that they will not write what happened in their meeting..

By the word "Zyarat", I mean to see the Imam (ATF) or to meet him. From what I have learnt in books Imam (ATF) lives among us on earth.

It is a misfortune that we do not know our Imam (ATF). That we are away from him. Many a times our behavior (sins, deeds, not paying attention) keeps us away from him. On the other hand their are people who long to see him, know him, meet him. It is a thing of great honor for someone to have the Zyarat of the Imam of the Time (ATF) during his or her life.

YaAliMadaath

Thank you for clarifying zyara

Source for report that Ayatullah Khomeini (ra) prayed behind Imam Mahdi (as) = his former personal bodyguards from his time here in exile in Europe. These are reliable reports I have heard with only one person inbetween me and the report of the bodyguards. I have never heard these guards deny it - they are middle-aged in their 50's and 60's now - though they know what people in the community say they say they have never denied they said it. They only disclosed it after his passing. These men were chosen for their honesty and loyalty to the Ayatullah (ra) as at the time the Savaak or Shah's secret police were after him, having already tried to assasinate the Ayatullah (ra)'s son when the Ayatullah first went into exile in Najaf. There Savaak traced the Ayatullah (ra) down to his house, and called on him. One of his sons opened the door of his residence and they mistakenly martyred him instead of the Ayatullah. Thus from exile in Iraq, Ayatullah Khomeini came to Europe - Paris. His bodyguards here were chosen for their faith, devotion, loyalty and sincerity. They would not lie.

As far as I am concerned this is overwhelming evidence that Ayatullah Khomeini prayed behind Imam Mahdi (as).

OK, here are the hadith for seeing Holy Prophet (saw) and Imam Ali (as) and any deceased person in your dreams. These are from the book Tahdhib ul Islam: Perfection and refinement in style of living according to Islamic teachings, P.E.T. Publications:

------

It is related from Imam Jaa'-far Sadiq (A.S.) that a person who desires to have the honour of beholding the Holy Prophet (S.A.) in his dreams should perform Ghusl after Isha prayers, then offer 4 Rakat Namaz. In each Rakat after Alhamd he should recite hundred times Ayatul Kursi. After the Namaz he should recite a thousand times Durood on the Holy Prophet (S.A.) and his Aal and should then lie down on a bed or cloth on which he has not done any lawful or unlawful act. Then putting the right hand under the right cheek he should recite hundred times:

SUBH'AANALLAAHI WAL H'AMDU LILLAAHI WA LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAAHU WALLAAHU AKBAR WA LAA H'AWLA WA LAA QUWWATA ILLAA BILLAAH

[Glory be to Allah, and all praise is due to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, Allah is the greatest and there is no power or strength except for Allah)

After that he should say "Maashaa Allah" a hundred times. A person who performs this procedure properly would have the honour of seeing the Holy Prophet (S.A.).

----------------------------

In another tradition it is related that a person who desires to see Imam Ali (A.S.) in dream should recite the following when going to sleep:

ALLAAHUMMA INNEE AS-ALUKA YAA MAN LAHOO LUT'FUN KHAFIYYUN WA A-YAADEEHI BAASIT'ATUN LAA TUQBAZ''U AS-ALUKA BI-LUT'FIKAL KHAFIYYILLAD'EE MAA LAT'UFTA BIHEE LI-A'BDIN ILLAA KAFAA AN TURIYANEE MAWLAAYA AMEERAL MOO-MINEENA A'LIYY-MAWLAAYA AMEERAL MOO-MINEENA A'LIYY-ABNA ABEE T'AALIBIN A'LAYHIS SALAAMU FEE MANAAMEE

[Oh Allah, I beseech You, O You Whose kindness is unseen, Whose hands are spread out (in generosity) and they never shrink; I ask You by that hidden generosity which, whenever it is showered on any one is enough for him; I beseech You to make me behold my master Amirul Momineen (A.S.) in my dream.]

----------------------------

It is narrated in another tradition that if any one wants to see any of the deceased person in the dreams, he should perform Wuzoo and lying down on his right side after reciting Tasbeeh Fatema (S.A.), should recite this Dua'a:

ALLAAHUMMA ANTAL H'AYYULLAD'EE LAA

YOOS'AFU WA BIL EEMAANI YUA'-RAFU MINKA

BADA-AT MALJAA-UL ASHYAA-I WA ILAYKA

TA-O'ODU FAMAA AQBALA MINHAA KUNTA

MALJAA-AHOO WA MAA ADBARA MINHAA LAM

YAKUN LAHOO MALJAA-UN WA LAA MANJA-A

ILLAA ILAYKA FA-AS-ALUKA BI-LAA ILAAHA

ILLAA ANTA WA AS-ALUKA BI-BISMILLAAH

RAH'MAANIR RAH'EEM WA BIH'AQQI

H'ABEEBIKA MUH'AMMADIN S'ALLALLAAHU

A'LAYHI WA AALIHEE SAYYIDIN NABIYYEENA

WA BIH'AQQI A'LIYYIN KHAYRIL WAS'IYYEENA

WA BIH'AQQI FAAT'IMATA SAYYIDATI NISAA-IL

A'ALAMEENA WA BI-H'AQQIL H'ASANI WAL

H'USAYNIL LAD'AYNA JA-A'LTAHUMAA

SAYYIDAY SHABAABI AHLIL JANNATI A'LAYHIM

AJMA-E'ENAS SALAAM AN TUS'ALLIYA A'LAA

MUH'AMMADIN WA AALI MUH'AMMAD WA AN

TURIYANEE MAYYITEE FIL H'AALATILLATEE

HUWA FEEHAA

[Oh Allah, You are Ever-Living, You cannot be

described; only Faith can recognize You, You are the

source of everything. You are the refuge of those

creatures who have preceded others and You are the

(means of) salvation of those creatures who would come

later. I beseech You by Laa Ilahaa illaa Anta and I

beech You by Bismillahir Rahmaanir Rahim and by

Your friend Muhammad (S.A.), the Chief of the

Prophets, by Ali (A.S.) the leader of the Momineen and

the Chief of the divine vicegerents, by Fatima Zehra

(S.A), the leader of the women of the universe, by

Hasan and Husain, both of whom You have made the

Chiefs of the youths of Paradise; to send benedictions

on Muhammad and Aale-Muhammad; and let me have

the glimpse of my dead man in the condition in

which he is.]
