Entire Region of Norway to boycott Apartheid Israel!

December 16th, 2005

www.divestmentproject.org

The regional council of the Sør-Trøndelag in Norway has passed a motion calling for a comprehensive boycott on Israeli goods to be followed up with an awareness raising campaign across the region.

Sør-Trøndelag has a population of 270,000 out of Norway's 4.6 million. Trondheim, Norway's third largest city, forms part of the region and will participate in the boycott initiative. The council committed itself to this motion as a result of intensive work by Norwegian activists that had launched a national Boycott Israel campaign this June. The success of this motion has marked a massive move forwards for boycotts of Apartheid Israel.

Building from the region's experience of support for the South African Anti-Apartheid struggle, the people and their representatives in Sør-Trøndelag have once again sided with the calls for justice and liberation.

The decision comes just weeks after a city in the Basque country, Arbizu, passed a similar motion in their solidarity with the Palestinian people. The news will give further boost to the campaigning efforts of other cities and campaigners across the globe and will help stimulate more initiatives to follow the Palestinian call for comprehensive boycott, sanctions and divestment campaign against Israel.

Full text of the motion (translation by the Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign):

Boycott Israeli goods

An international boycott campaign against Israel is now being launched. Apartheid in South Africa was condemned by the entire world and this contributed to the fall of the regime. Israel's occupation of the West Bank, the Ghazah Strip and the Syrian Golan Heights has been condemned by the UN.

The Israeli settlements violate International Law. The construction of the Wall has been declared illegal by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), and the refugees still wait to return to their homes.

Sør-Trøndelag was the first [Norwegian] county to boycott South Africa. Upholding this good tradition, the County council, as the first in the country, has decided to boycott Israeli goods, by not buying Israeli goods and through awareness raising efforts.

We call on the population to do the same.

Greggie, you need to be able to read before you can try to pronounce it.

I am PRAYING this boycott goes through, for if it did, a boycott of Norwegian products, particularly fish, in the Northeast of the US, would begin in force.

Latest report on the issue:

Norway's prime minister and foreign minister were busy with damage control tasks late this week, after one of their government's coalition parties called for a boycott of Israeli products. And just when Israel's own prime minister was lying gravely ill.

The Norwegian government has long supported Israel and has been active in years of attempts to broker peace between the Israelis and Palestinians. That's what Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg tried to stress, when downplaying the boycott call by the Socialist Left party (SV).

Finance Minister Kristin Halvorsen hails from the Socialist Left herself, and acknowledged her party's boycott call. She tried to distance herself from it, stressing that the boycott wasn't government policy, but the damage was done.

Israel's ambassador to Norway immediately appeared on Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK)'s nightly news, to complain about and criticize the boycott call. Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre felt compelled to send a letter to the Israelis, in an attempt to clarify that the government doesn't condone a boycott and remains a supporter of Israel.

Political researcher Sverre Lodgaard said Friday that Halvorsen's party's boycott now limits the government's ability to criticize Israel when needed. "The government will get much more limited room for negotiation after this," he said.

Funny how this began with part of Norway contemplating boycotting Israel, and ended with a mob in Damascus burning down the Norwegian embassy. I wonder in retrospect whether that local council in Norway has reassessed who it thinks its allies are.

This is an interesting argument - although entirely what one would expect from a Zionist.

If the region of Norway (which I can not pronounce) decided to boycott the racist Zionist entity, in order to obtain powerful allies - then obviously it was a mistake, since the Palestinians are not powerful.

If on the other hand, they are boycotting the Zionist entity merely because it is the morally correct thing to do, then they have the deep satisfaction of having done the right thing - which is its own reward.

It is, however, not surpising that Zionists (because of their obviously evil ideology) would find such an idea incomprehensible.

Thank you for your words brother Greg.

It's astonishing, there is no moral ground for israel.

it is quite a vast group boycotting israel, the Swedish Church encourages all its members to do it, even right wing parties in sweden have proposed a israeli boycott in the parliament.

Let us not forgot that those who think israel is a moral state also say this about the native palestinians:

a sick, psychotic people
- zionist benny morris

they also include people such as sharon, the butcher of beirut.

Too, too funny. In another thread, a pal supporter uses a quote from benny morris supporting the absurdity that many arabs were expelled from israel in 1948. Now suddenly, he's a zionist.

Make up your minds jihadists, either morris is a zionist or not.

Of all the jewhaters here, greggie is def the weakest, easiest to expose and humiliate.

First he makes a personal attack with a label of "zionist," the 2000's version of the 1990s "liberal" label. Then he falls back into the usual "racist," to try to score some brownie points with the arch-left crowd who, all in zombie-like lockstep, despise all and anything "racist" - even if they cant really define what is or isnt "racist."

Last he makes a broad insult attacking the intelligence of all those who are "zionists," a typical jewhating ploy designed to attack jews while hiding behind the anti-israel rhetoric.

Unfortunately for greggie, who really is a dime a dozen jewhater, his pretenses at intellectual debate are so shallow and transparent that he cant help but embarrass himself. Especially when every sentence uttered has at least one Certified Anti-Israel Propaganda Phrase (zionist, evil idealogy, racist, etc.).

As soon as you can explain how that's a personal attack you won't be so far behind the rest of us.

the 2000's version of the 1990s "liberal" label.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

No. Sorry. It's not a "liberal" label.

Go directly to Jail.

According to the Talmud, is a goym a human or less than human?

Don't know, do you?

Don't know what a Zionist is either, do you?

Report it to the Anti-Defamation League.

I'm sure they'll put your letter right alongside Mel Gibson's.

But you notice he never said anti-Semite or anti-Jewish?

Can you explain why?

Because once you can, you won't be writing such self embarrasing posts.

as always this calf worshipper resorts to mud slinging rather than actually dealing with the situation.

read up on benny morris. his arguments support Palestine, simple as that, his work affirms zionist attrocities, but he ardently supports those crimes. that is not hard to understand.

Church of England has decided to divest from Israel too.

we see through your tactics Juda. all u do is cause noise to distract people from the issue at hand.

http://www.counterpunch.org/youmans02092006.html

Former Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the South African activist and Nobel Prize winner, is a vocal champion of Palestinian rights. He compared Palestinian life under occupation to his own experiences living under Apartheid.

Archbishop Tutu wrote in 2002, "yesterday's South African township dwellers can tell you about today's life in the Occupied Territories." In the same article, he promoted a letter several hundred Jewish South Africans wrote drawing "an explicit analogy between apartheid and current Israeli policies."
