Yes any Shia Ithna Asheri person can become an Ayatullah. It could take 20 or more years to become one.

You become an Ayatullah generally when u reach the level of ijtihad, meaning you have finished tertiary study in 7awza and you got a PHD, some people attain it quickly others take long. Good example of early achievement is Sayyed Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr.

You are already an Ayatullah, these days people are becoming Rabb

Thanks for the info, but if you knew arabic you would know that we are all Ayatullah and some of us a rabbs.

The term rabb means lord true. Now if I own a house, I'm referred to in arabic as Rabb al bait... The Lord of the home. If I own a slave Im referred to as Rabb al abd. Lord/Master of the slave.

SHAKIR: Those who spend (benevolently) in ease as well as in straitness, and those who restrain (their) anger and pardon men; and Allah loves the doers of good (to others).

016.125

SHAKIR: Call to the way of your Lord with wisdom and goodly exhortation, and have disputations with them in the best manner; surely your Lord best knows those who go astray from His path, and He knows best those who follow the right way.

Jakallah. But when going to any hawza the difficult thing would be the language...Arabic or Farsi. You do need to learn the language.

I asked similar question to those who went to hawza. Their answer was. "Learning the language was the easiest of all".

In other words, once you are there in the envioronment reading books, talking to people you learn the language fast.

Apart fromthat do you need any specific qualifications for becoming an Ayatullah or Allama.

(bismillah)

(salam)

These titles of "Ayatullah" or "Allamah" are not degrees that one gets after reading a certain number of books or attaending these many hours of classes. These are titles used to show respect to senior scholars.

So if someone has completed 20 or 30 years of his studies, become a Mujtahid, has become a teacher at the university (hawza), written books and has proven his authority in different subjects, others scholars who recognize his abilities start identifying him as a Hujjat al-Islam or Ayatullah. Similarly after years of research, writing books, teaching or gaining experience senoir Ayatullahs are recognized as Grand Ayatullahs or Ayatullah al-Uzma.

As far as real "Allamah" is concerned there are very fiew in history like Allamah Hilli.

Also I have not seen scholars write these titles in front of their name. They are very humble people and simply write their name.

I think to become one you need to have studied lots of in depth information as well as be a true shia. and is a good person from inside as well as outside.

You sure were ...

To become an Ayatullah you need to study upto level of ijtihad , which you could finish in 10 years , usually more unless you are very smart and study at a faster rate .

I was told 10-12 years for an above average(smart) person . May even take upto 16 if you are below average .

As for becoming a Grand Ayatullah who can issue verdicts that takes years after ur ijtihad

And i heard that there is hawza in English even in Iran , but Arabic( for Quran) and Farsi are must to learn there.

True sis you need to be clean from in and out. Obviously to go into this you need to give up the world and give 100% to your studies.

I'm sure there is no doubt that you would have made a very fine Ayatullah. We just didn't deserve you.

Wouldn't want to enter the realm of conjecture and prophecy about what could have been and now will not ever be.

All I know he was one a fine person, one who touched hearts . . . I do wish I'd known him for more time, known him better . . .
