Since i started learning about Islam, finding out about Shia Islam and up to now, Yasser Al Dowsari and a number of other Saudi Qaris have been my favourite reciters up to now, but since theyre obviously Salafi Athari influenced, im not sure if this is looked down upon or discouraged among others, opinions?

Salam wr wb

There is certainly a prejudice that some may have when it comes to reciters who may be seen as affiliated with certain groups.

That prejudice is something every individual has to work on, themselves.

I wouldn't have an issue listening to any reciter who's recitation appeals to me.

I would however be mindful of a reciter who has publicly made statements or a stance that goes against justice, such as Mishary Alafasy and his silly propaganda nasheed.

I listen to several 'Saudi' reciters, a few calssic Egyption reciters and one of my favourites is a Yemeni reciter named Mohammed Al Faqeeh.

from a Fiqhi standpoint it only becomes impermissible if supporting them is supporting misguidance or recommending them to people and reputation would recommend people to follow them in other things which could cause them to be misguided

From a fiqhi and kalami standpoint if you’re only listening to their recitation of the holy Quran, not poems, not other things that in itself would be fine at the bare minimum level

However  we Have a narration that states in the last days they would come with people who recite the Quran so beautiful it would make you weep, but it would go deeper than their throats and they would be the horn of Satan

Many of our scholars are the opinion that this refers to the gulf Salafi who focus on Tajwid and Qariat rather than than Tasfir

So from the standpoint of Irfan and Taqwa it’s better to listen to our own people who have the correct theology, even if their reputation isn’t as beautiful

Take the example of the adhan of Bilal where he had some difficulties with the letters, it was said that his sin that sounds like shin reaches the heavens as a perfect sin etc they’re long forms of narration, but the point is the perfection of faith is more important than the way the voice sounds

I’m not gonna mention in my name, but one of the greatest mystics of all time had a heavy accent, heavy non-Arabic accent when he led the prayers, but his prayers were more beautiful because of the feeling and the effect then those with a perfect Arabic accent

Imam Ali as says I am the Quran and I am the dot in the B in the name of God, the gracious the merciful

So in the spiritual level, Quran without recognition of Ahlul Bayt as won’t do much for a person

What does it mean when Imam Ali AS says "I am the Qur'an and i am the dot in the B in the name of God"?

He liked the holy prophet, peace and blessings be upon him was the walking talking Quran he was the walking and living explanation of the Quran

As for the second, it indicates that the Rasul Allah sawa the Imam as and succeeding Aimmah as are the explanation of the Quran

How is it what it means is that you need the vowel marks to fully understand the Arabic if you’re not in Arabic speaker likewise people aren’t acquainted with the divine mysteries I even not infallible need the imam as to give the correct understanding

According to some narrations, reciting the Quran melodiously (Tajweed) is impermissible, whereas there is no issue with Tartil.

Salam. Ayatullah Ruhollah Khomeini RA frequently mentioned the mystical concept of the "dot under the ba" (ب) in his philosophical and spiritual works Adab as-Salat and Tafsir Surah Al-Hamd.

The concept derives from a famous report attributed to Imam Ali AS where he said "I am the dot under the 'ba' of Bismillah."

Salaam Aleikum, it is better to keep away from any narrations/sayings where it is attributed to Imam Ali (عليه السلام) of sayings "I am", because it is an innovation and fabrication. In this saying, this is not an narration but statement that is attribute to sufism, read it here.

Also the guy who created the Bábism cult, took the statement from sufis and also made an commentary on it here.

Salaam Aleikum,

This is good topic, it is very good to know that I should never use any Saudi recitors in the quran app i'm creating. Even when intention is good, the problem is that it can promote these wahhabis.

Whenever someone mentions a Sunni reciter at ShiaChat, people go to YouTube and find his channel. They watch/listen to his videos and he gets more clicks and more income from those clicks. Then they might look at all the videos on his channel and some of them might be clips that are question and answer from a Wahabbi or salafi sheikh that spew propaganda against Shias.

Personally, I never listen to a Sunni reciter unless he has been invited to Iran and highly respected as a person who has no prejudice against Shias.
