As most people know, with the ongoing genocide of Palestinians and Israeli companies coming to light about their Zionist connections and other terrible things, there is a boycott going around for many companies including Coca Cola and it's subproducts; Sprite, Fanta, etc. Fatwahs have further come out saying that they are Haram to buy, sell or consume.

So I was wondering, if these drinks are gifted, or given as Tabaruk (which shouldn't, but in this scenario has...), is it still Haram to drink them? If yes, can I give it to other friends then?

If you're replying, please give a source of what your answers are based on.

Thank you!!

imam as Sadiq as said whatever is prohibited to benefit From is prohibited to profit from

You cannot use something that is prohibited just because it’s a gift

An example is if someone steals or you serve something and give it to you it’s prohibited to take or somebody gives you wine so you say it’s OK to drink it or sell it or return it, etc.

I’ve seen some people come up with the idea that women are not pure when they’re on their period so therefore they’re allowed to touch dogs and let dogs lick them, etc.

In both scenarios, this is wrong

And it’s highly offensive I’m not saying you did it. The people would be dedicateding unlawful things for the reward of the 14 because they did not take unlawful monies or doubtful monies so why would they accept what is clearly prohibited

The second issue is this unless the fatwa have changed for recently most of the scholars, including Sayyid Sistani Ra traditionally ruled that isareli goods were prohibited for people living in Muslim countries and dislike for people living in western countries

Sayyid Khamenei Ra banned , Israeli and American goods for those in Iran. For those in western countries, he considered any Israeli product you can avoid buying or any product that gives money to the IDF you have to avoid but if you can’t avoid it, it was absolutely unavoidable, etc. there was no problem like for example you need to go to a certain hospital at hospitals give some of their profits IDF for their Zionist on the board, etc. or you work for the city and the city invest in Israeli bonds. This is something you might not be able to avoid but Coca-Cola Pepsi all these different companies are avoidable.

The biggest hypocrisy I seen in the US is the woke liberal group who claims to support Palestine won’t go to local ethically sourced fair trade coffee prices places because it’s really expensive instead they go to expensive IDF supporting Starbucks you can’t scream out for Gaza and drink Starbucks

Now you’d have to check with your scholar to see the recent fatwa from him

but the general rule was anything that is prohibited you cannot gift you cannot use if it’s a gift you cannot give to others and it should be destroyed. If people are doing it you should inform them if they don’t listen you should walk away and not support those gatherings.

With all respect to everyone, I think the boycott idea is useless, because we use everything related to Israel, even social media

It is tho, many people started their own businesses when the boycotted started. We can start from small things. Yes I know devices and social media is owned by the Zionist but slowly people are creating things so that we can get rid of it.

It's not that hard to boycott specially anything related to food or clothes. I still use excel or powerpoint because my current job need me to use them, I have email from microsoft too. I still use social medias as well because other social media that do not support israhell are not that active.

With all due respect, there's nothing wrong with the latter example given.

Furthermore, there's no prohibition from touching a dog or even letting it lick you.

It's perfectly 'allowed'.

The only issue one would face is if the contact with the dog involved moisture  such as a wet dog, its nose or saliva etc

Only then, would they need to follow certain purifying تطهير steps.

dog is najis . Why would you touch it or let it lick you ? We traditionally enjoy pence aren’t even allowed to have them in the house when they’re capped. It’s only for specific reasons.

So someone who has taqwa is not going to ever touch one without reason

You are correct in that the dog is Najis (impure)

You are incorrect in suggesting that touching a dog or letting it lick you is not allowed or wrong.

Taqwa has nothing to do with the wrong assertion of impermissibility.

Anyone with a little knowledge in Jurisprudence/ Fiqh would know

أصالة الإباحة

(The principle of original permissibility)

So please be mindful of making inaccurate assertions.

Wsalam,

So then should I give the drinks to friends of mine that aren't Muslim, because I've already received it without knowing (due it to being in a parcel when given)?

Be careful in speech, dear brother, the bare minimum legal requirement is not everything

I’ve spent 13 years in a seminary. I currently run one in an Islamic center. I was the representative for two different senior scholars.

The metaphor I was giving was that a lot of women were saying dogs are not in pure when they are on their period because they are in pure so the two impurities cancel each other out and they don’t have to do anything to make their hands pier until they take their period ritual bath

Which is similar in my understanding to the idea, you could take something religiously in permissible due to boycott and use it as a gift because you didn’t pay money for it. You’re still using something that is illegal.

Now some of the scholars may give a pass if you had bought it before the boycott and they said well if you had it and the person didn’t know it’s fine generally if you ask them OK but what would you do yourself do they’re all gonna say, I would throw it out

I know one juris who is not a Granger, who was the representative of another jurist. He was given some Pepsi Pepsi has 1000 of a percent of alcohol in it generally not an issue. He thanked the person gave him a hug as soon as he left, he threw right in the garbage he said even one drop I wouldn’t touch.

taqwa and iman are the pillars

When you enter the seminary one of the first maxims they teach you is everything that can be done. Doesn’t need to be done.

I was once with a person he said we must do everything in the drawer so people don’t think it’s unlawful and this is on a discussion about television. I said, although both certain television programs in themselves may be lawful it’s better during the 68 days of mourning and the three months of fasting to avoid subject activities. His argument was, but if you do that you’re going against the jurist because you’re taking something that’s OK in itself and making it not OK.

I replied to that person his temporary marriage OK said yes I said is it recommended for a man who’s traveling he said absolutely I said do you have a daughter? He said yeah why I said I’m traveling. I’m a good faithful brother. I’m Clergy man I want to do temporary marriage with your daughter. I must prove that it is lawful. You know it can be done so it should and then he didn’t say anything then he quietly apologized and excused himself.

The holy prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was polite to the woman who threw garbage on him

With the followers of the 14 sometimes speak rude to each other it amazes me

I see refuge in the Lord of the world from the torture of the graves and the mouth in the clergy face

wallahu Alam

There’s a post script. The legal ruling are the bare minimum the juris themselves almost always practice much straighter than the bare minimum legal ruling they get.

An easy example as those scholars will allow French beards, they themselves had huge beards, but they allow based on the bare minimum from the four sources for their followers

Indeed brother, I try my best to be very mindful of the words I use; and so should a respected brother like yourself in your position and all the years invested in Hawza.

I'm sure you didn't intend to mislead anyone to think that touching a dog is not allowed; when in fact there is no such ruling.

Perhaps a more careful use of words next time inshAllah.

in this case, literals set out by the grand scholars are giving these things promotes them. It’s problematic.

For example, you didn’t pay for it you didn’t buy it but by giving it to someone, maybe that’s not something we use all the time or think about it could be seen as encouraging it

You would have to talk to your grand scholars office to see exactly what they think

But precaution is advised, and you can all always be stricter than even your grand scholars ruling they don’t prohibit you from being stricter they prohibit you from ignoring their ruling, but not being stricter

So I would advise to destroy it
