Is using dilators to treat vaginismus permissible? (the condition is thwarting sex and hence the couple is considering this).

Thanks

in general, putting something up the vagina canal other than the penis of the husband, the fingers or hands of the husband or according to some scholars, artificial insemination with permission of the husband or testing kits for like pelvic exams, and Pap smears by a female doctor or if absolutely impossible to get a female, an older male is not allowed

So for this kind of therapy, they have the woman insert things in her vagina opening hold them there to practice, widening it and making sex less painful

Now you would have to ask the office of your specific scholar, but on general principles unless she is absolutely unable to have sex without this therapy or they can’t do something else besides intercourse that achieves orgasm for him so she doesn’t have to go through such therapy. It generally would not be allowed.

If it’s absolutely necessary to have intercourse and he can’t benefit from her doing another form of sex for him to achieve orgasm or it doesn’t satisfy him or he’s not happy and doing temporary in second marriage isn’t an option and there’s absolutely no other option and it would be more emphasized if a lot of times these problems with the vagina can cause problems for urination problems for childbearing problems for urinal continence later in the woman’s life, and they can sometimes cause problems with the menstrual cycle and other issues

I know one couple who found other options to avoid this type of therapy and I knew one couple where they couldn’t do anything to avoid it so they ended up going through with it

It would depend on the severity the complications or problems it could cause other areas later in life, if at all whether the Doctor Who is going to do the therapy with male or female and what impact it has in the marital relations and rights of the husband

Thank you for the detailed response.

Sex is all but impossible. Prohibitively painful or simply.. closed!

Also, the couple was thinking more along the lines of using it on their own (apparently some do-it-yourself kits are available), without involving any healthcare professional.

Just to emphasize, there's no intent of deriving any pleasure from this. It is just to treat this medical condition so that the couple can have normal conjugal relations.

first of all, I highly recommend it do it yourself in this kind of case

This is the thing where you need actual medical professionals because doing it yourself wrong can make things much worse

It’s like people who think Azio tablets get rid of urinary tract infections when they merely reduce symptoms to an extent

This couple should also focus on maintaining intimacy and other forms such as communicating holding showering together walking other sexual activity, etc.

But they should also make an appointment with a licensed pelvic specialist in begin a physical therapy component that this involves with a female if one is available

Is necessary doing it with licensed medical professionals even if it takes a while to get Insurance to improve is better than do it yourself

I understand, thats a fair point. Will let them know about it.

Maybe having rulings on both scenarios could be beneficial, (i.e, they doing it themselves or someone else (read: doctor or similar) doing it)).

If anyone has personal accounts or similar rulings from jurists would greatly help

What if he caused medical harm to his wife? It would not be allowed. A person with medical training said this is a delicate area of the body and absolutely needs professional help. Read the older topic here:

Mod- sorry, didnt realize the topic was considered closed. Thanks for replying.

I understand that point. However, at this point, they are more looking for the islamic permissibility in both scenarios.

Theyll look at the medical aspects more closely ofcourse (one of the spouse happens to be a healthcare proffessional themselves). But before diving into that they want to be aware of the islamic permissibility.

PS: I did go through that forum, but couldnt find a specific ruling

salaam alaykom

seems there would be no problem using such things, or rather having it done of course keeping non-mahram rules as i think in this scenario you wont need to do otherwise. since this is a medical treatment it dosent even classify for other rules. same as for any other medical treatment for both male or female awrah areas.
