Assalamallikum,

I watch this program on DeutscheWelle entitled:

Indonesia's green lslam: when climate protection becomes a religion

This is on videos. You can find it by searching: Youtube dw indonesia

Set at a mosque in Jakarta which has the "first eco-certification" as its commitment to the green movement, l took these notes:

-"prayers are offered in defense of the environment"

-proselytizes: "Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) does not like those (who -ed.) cause harm to the earth."

-issues "green fatwas", refurbishes mosques (solar panels, water recycling -ed.), training groups of environmental activists

-in the Quran schools, "environmental courses taught through the lens of islamic theology".

-the commentator/reporter said: "Adopting Quranic teachings to today's environmental challenges requires a profound rereading of the sacred texts."

-this uses 700 ayats "that address the protection of nature".

-and 'to do all this' "the right strategy" is to start with Quran and Hadith and use rock music

Those are my notes. The report showed a lot of emotional appeals rather than thought/intellect (ayats 2:73, 2:164, 3:118 )

Even though Man is a vicegerant/viceregent, Man was/is created for a specific purpose: Ayat 51:56. You can also add Ayat 2:21.

In the revealing of Quran, use of one's intellect is encouraged and not emotions. Ayats 2:73, 2:164, 3:118.

For me personally, this greenwash falls within Ayat 5:58.

A mosque was bombed in lndonesia recently. l wonder if this bi'dah was the target...but encouraging repentance is better.

WaSa
