The vast majority of juris and the history of our school of thought, allow you to hold the Quran to read a chapter in Arabic with either Arabic or phonetics in the standing position of your prayers.

So if anyone wanted to recite Yasin in the first rakat and Mulk in the second he can do that . For the supplementary prayers that have different chapters that need to be recited one can use Quran in hand as well.

This could be a physical copy of the Quran or an app on the phone, just with keeping in the spirit of the rollings one should have the suras pulled up on the app or website before praying therefore all you have to do is pull the phone out of your pocket and use it and you’re not typing things in and looking up websites in the middle of the prayer.

It surprises me how many people ask about this there’s pretty much consensus. you can do the same thing for duaa in Arabic in Qunut or last ruku as well.

There’s actually more controversy over whether it’s allowed to say more than one chapter after faitha in the obligatory prayer

May the Lord of mercy help you to memorize as much of the holy book as possible

If I am not mistaken, you can only read from the Quran for non-wajib prayers.

Wajib prayers require reciting, not reading

Sayyid Sistani and Shaikh Bahjat ruled makruh . Most scholars that I was familiar had ruled it’s fine due to need and allowed for long suras recommended on certain days like Friday . However, rulings can change. For example, the issue of the necktie Which changed from haram to makruh by Sayyid Khaminei a few years back . Etc When you write to a scholar about a specific situation, they may give you a rolling just for your particular case we saw that in several cases with people who got unique rules from Ayatullah Khumanyi Ra so one should not take the personal rulings that were given to others in very specific situations to be the general rule for everyone. There are several specific examples of this or making mention here because many of them would’ve probably been before a large portion of the audience here was born.

In Toronto one of the Hussaynia has Jummah and Munafiq written on a wood board in front of the Prayer  niche unless the visiting speaker hasn’t memorized them.

Some scholars may now have a specific ruling on this with the rise of transliteration and phone apps, I have not seen such a ruling and was looking at the prevailing opinions and discussions for my time formally studying .

Like I said, this is similar to the issue of whether or not you can recite more than one chapter after the opening in the obligatory prayer. People have asked that question because we’re signing 112th chapter 3 times as it said to be 1/3 of the Quran, thus one would presumably get the reward of reciting the whole Quran had become prevalent in a few places.

If this is a matter of doubt, whether it might be detestable to the point, it should be avoided or prohibited by one particular scholar. Best to send an answer to the office or better yet contact their authorized representative in your area.
