Salam.

It's 2025 Eid ul Fitr so Eid Mubarak to everyone. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) the merciful lord bless us all, forgive us and guide us towards him and may Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) shower his blessings upon Rasool (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and his Ahlebait (عليه السلام) and may Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) curse their enemies.

Since it's Eid, a group from shias will be mourning specifically, matam tatbeer etc and telling everyone that who doesn't mourn is not a shia as Ahlebait (عليه السلام) said our shias are those who're happy when we're happy and are sad when we're sad. And there would also be some narrations circulating Social Media. It gives an impression as if those shias who celebrate Eid are doing something that's forbidden or it's like turning their backs on Ahlebait (عليه السلام). Since most of them are following Ghulat sect, they use it to criticize Ayatullahs and those who do taqleed.

I though if everyone can add to such a thread, especially how the Eid actually goes for us and their thoughts on narrations quoted to justify mourning on eid it would be helpful. I'll try my best to add whatever i can regarding this matter.

One of our brothers @Muslim2010 had a hadeeth from Ameer ul Momineen (عليه السلام) from Nahaj Ul Balagha in following thread. Definitely worth checking out.

Tahdhib Al-Ahkam - Shaykh Al-Tusi

Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Mahbub, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from Al-Hasan ibn Mahbub, from Malik ibn Atiyyah, from Abu Hamzah Al-Thumali, from Abu Ja’far (Imam Al-Baqir, عليه السلام), who said:

"Supplicate on the two Eids and on Friday when you prepare to go out with this supplication:

"... O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad. Grant me the best of this day which You have honored and magnified. Cleanse me of all my sins and mistakes, and increase me in Your bounty(fadl). Indeed, You are the Bestower."

This praise of the Day of Eid in Saheeh us sanad hadith makes it clear its a very honored day and have alot of azmaah rather than just mourning also mourning is NOT fadl (bounty). It's very strong evidence that the it's the day of happiness and rejoice, celebration.

Also above hadith comes from Imam Baqir (عليه السلام) who came after Imam Ali (عليه السلام)'s martyrdom as well as Karbala. No shia on earth is better shia of Ali (عليه السلام) than Imam Baqir (عليه السلام).

In more Hadiths via two chains in same book we have another supplication. it has same content hence mentioning it once.

"You should say between each two Takbirs in the Eid prayer:

_O Allah, Lord of majesty and greatness, Lord of generosity and might, Lord of pardon and mercy, and Lord of piety and forgiveness! I ask You on this day, which You have made a festival (Eid) for the Muslims and an honor and increase for Muhammad (ﷺ) and his family, to send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad in the best manner You have ever sent blessings upon any of Your servants.

Send blessings upon Your close angels and Your messengers. Forgive the believing men and believing women, the Muslim men and Muslim women, both the living and the deceased.

O Allah! I ask You for the best of what Your righteous servants and messengers have asked You for, and I seek refuge in You from the worst of what Your righteous servants and messengers have sought refuge from."_

Three of our imams, Imam jaffer Al-Sadiq, Imam Baqir & Imam Ali (عليه السلام) has said: هذا اليوم الذي جعلته للمسلمين عيدا This day has been declared as day of Eid for Muslims by Allah Enough to debunk the claims of those who say celebrating Eid is straying away from path of Ahlebait (عليه السلام). It is indeed from among the teachings of Ahlebait (عليه السلام).

For now, these three narrations have weak chain but there's enough support for them even in saheeh hadith. Also that it has been narrated from different paths (three in this book and for sure there'd be more in other books). According to Akhbaris these are all SAHEEH ahadith.

Most of these Ghulat often quote book Al-Fiqh attributed to Imam Ali Raza (عليه السلام) and accept it as an authentic source.
According to their authentic source, Imam Raza (عليه السلام) also mentions this supplication:

٩ - باب صلاة العيدين

والقنوت أن تقول: أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله، وحده لا شريك له، وأن محمدا عبده ورسوله (2) اللهم أنت أهل الكبرياء والعظمة، وأهل الجود والجبروت، و (أهل العفو والمغفرة) (3)، وأهل التقوى والرحمة، أسألك في هذا اليوم الذي جعلته للمسلمين عيدا،

Chatper Of Prayer of the two Eids

"And in the Qunoot, you should say: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, He is One, without any partner. And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger. O Allah, You are the Lord of majesty and greatness, the Lord of generosity and might, the Lord of pardon and forgiveness, and the Lord of piety and mercy. I ask You on this day, which You have made a festival (Eid) for the Muslims..."

So now it comes from a reliable source Fiqh e Raza where Imam Reza (عليه السلام) mentioned the same supplication under the chapter of prayer for the two eids. Note that Imam Reza comes after Imam Ali (عليه السلام)'s Shahadat, Imam Zain ul Abideen (عليه السلام) and Karbala. If Ahlebait (عليه السلام) were observing eid as a day of sorrow, why would later imams (Imam Baqir, Imam Jaffer Al-Sadiq, and Imam Ali Raza (عليه السلام)) teach us these hadiths/supplications? It means Ahlebait (عليه السلام) never considered Eids a day of sorrow or grief.

According to us, this book is not authentic but there's enough support for mentioned narration in our authentic books.

My Father said: I asked Imam Jafar Al-Sadiq (عليه السلام): Is there any Eid for Muslims besides the Jummah, Adha and Al-Fitr. Imam Sadiq (عليه السلام) said: Yes.

Grading: Weak & (Reliable according to Akhbaris)

I think the matn (content) of hadith is not disputed among shia and is reliable without any doubts according to any scholar. Imam (عليه السلام) referred to Ghadeer as an Eid just like we have 3 others. So if, Al-Fitr is for mourning and is a day of sorrow, so is Ghadeer. Yet you celebrate one and then for Al-Fitr you declare celebrating it as haram. Anyways hadith proves we have at least 4 days of celebration, these days are honored and it's the Sunnah of Ahlebait (عليه السلام) to consider these days EID not the day of mourning or sorrow.

447. Ali, from his father, from Al-Hassan Bin Ali from Abu Ja’far Al-Sa’ig, from Muhammad Bin Muslim who said: ‘I came up to Abu Abdullah ((عليه السلام)) and in his ((عليه السلام)) presence was Abu Hanifa. So I said, ‘May I be sacrificed for you ((عليه السلام)), I saw a strange dream’. So he ((عليه السلام)) said to me: ‘O Ibn Muslim, relate it for the knowledgeable one for he is seated here’ – and he ((عليه السلام)) indicated by his ((عليه السلام)) hand to Abu Hanifa. So I said, ‘I saw as if I had entered my house, and my wife came out at me. She broke many walnuts and scattered them upon me. So I was astounded by this dream’. So Abu Hanifa (la) said, ‘You are a man who disputed and argued regarding the inheritance of your wife, and after your share of difficulties you will achieve your needs from her, Allah (azwj) Willing’. Abu Abdullah ((عليه السلام)) said: ‘By Allah (azwj), O Abu Hanifa (la), you’ve hit it’. (The narrator) said, ‘Then Abu Hanifa (la) went out from his ((عليه السلام)) presence, so I said, ‘May I be sacrificed for you ((عليه السلام)), I do not like the interpretation of this Hostile One (Nasibi)’. So he ((عليه السلام)) said: ‘O Ibn Muslim, Allah (azwj) will not Displease you. Their interpretation does not coincide with our ((عليه السلام)) interpretation, nor does our ((عليه السلام)) interpretation coincide with theirs, and the interpretation (of your dream) is not as he has interpreted it’. I said to him ((عليه السلام)), ‘May I be sacrificed for you ((عليه السلام)), you ((عليه السلام)) said that he hit it, and swore upon it, whilst he was mistaken’. He ((عليه السلام)) said; ‘Yes, I ((عليه السلام)) did swear that he hit the mistake’. So I said to him ((عليه السلام)), ‘So what is its interpretation?’ He ((عليه السلام)) said: ‘O Ibn Muslim, you will do Muttah with a woman and your wife would come to know of it. So she would tear up your new clothes, for the walnut shells are the clothing for the nuts’. Ibn Muslim said, ‘By Allah (azwj), there was not a Friday between his ((عليه السلام)) interpretation and the verification of the dream. So when it was the morning of the Friday, I was seated at the door when a maid passed by who caught my eye. So I sent my slave to return her. Then I entered her into my house. I did Muttah with her. My wife sensed it and she came up to us in the house. The maid took the initiative and went to the door, and I remained. So she tore up my new clothes which I had worn during the Eid’. And Musa Al-Zawwaar the perfume seller went to Abu Abdullah ((عليه السلام)), so he said to him ((عليه السلام)), ‘O son ((عليه السلام)) of the Rasool Allah ﷺ! I saw a dream which shocked me. I saw my dead brother-in-law embrace me, and I am scared that my term (death) is near’. So he ((عليه السلام)) said: ‘O Musa! You should expect death morning and evening for it will meet us. And the embracing by the dead to the living is longevity of life for them. So what is the name of your brother in law?’ he said, ‘Husayn’. So he ((عليه السلام)) said: ‘But your dream is evidence of your remaining (alive), and your visiting Abu Abdullah (Al-Husayn) ((عليه السلام)), for everyone who is embraced by someone who is named Al-Husayn would visit him ((عليه السلام)) Allah (azwj) Willing’.

Grading: majhool & Reliable according to Akhbaris

In this narration of Al-Kafi, we see how Imam Jafar Al-Sadiq (عليه السلام)'s companion Muhammad Bin Muslim used to wear new clothes on Eid proves that's what Ahlebait (عليه السلام) taught and was their Sunnah. Certainly no one wears new clothes on a day of sorrow/grief.

Sheikh Sadooq narrates in his book Uyun Akhbaar Al-Ridha

"Chapter on the Reasons (Divine Wisdoms) Mentioned by Al-Fadl ibn Shadhan, at the End of Which He Stated That He Heard Them from Al-Ridha, Ali ibn Musa (peace be upon him), Repeatedly, Time After Time, and Piece by Piece, So He Compiled Them and Granted Permission to Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Qutaybah Al-Naysaburi to Narrate Them from Him on Authority of Al-Ridha (peace be upon him).”

Chain:

Now this is a long long hadith. I'll just quote following section:

Imam al-Ridha (عليه السلام) said:

"The day of Eid al-Fitr was made an Eid so that it may be a gathering day for Muslims, where they come together, present themselves before Allah (ʿazza wa jall), and glorify Him for the blessings He has bestowed upon them. Thus, it is a day of Eid, a day of gathering, a day of breaking the fast (Fitr), a day of charity (Zakat), a day of devotion (Raghbah), and a day of supplication (Tadarruʿ).

Moreover, it is the first day of the year in which eating and drinking become permissible, because, according to the people of truth, the first month of the year is Ramadan.

Allah (ʿazza wa jall) wanted this day to be a day of assembly where His servants would praise and sanctify Him.

The reason why there is more Takbir (glorification of Allah) in this prayer than in others is that Takbir is an act of exalting and glorifying Allah for His guidance and His granting of well-being, as Allah (ʿazza wa jall) says: "So that you may glorify Allah for having guided you, and so that you may give thanks" (2:185).

There are twelve Takbirs in the Eid prayer because there are two rakʿahs, and thus twelve Takbirs in total. Seven Takbirs are in the first rakʿah and five in the second. They were not made equal because the Sunnah in obligatory prayers is to begin with seven Takbirs.

Therefore, in this prayer, seven Takbirs were placed in the first rakʿah, and five in the second, as the prescribed number of Takbirs throughout the day and night is five. Moreover, making them in both rakʿahs results in an odd number (witr), which is in accordance with divine wisdom."

“Abu ‘Abd Allah ((عليه السلام)), once said to us, ‘Fasting is not proper during three days after al- Adha’ (10th of Duh al-Hajjah) as well as after al-Fitr (the first day of the month of Shawwal); they are the days for eating and drinking.

The day of Eid Al-Fitr is they day to eat, drink and praise Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) according to Imam Al-Sadiq (عليه السلام) goes against the notion of mourning, sorrow and grief.

Urdu/Hindi community is full of such people though

This is actually true. There are some Shia groups who have completely forgot about the Quran, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and the actual true teachings of his family, and instead, have taken a lot from Hinduism and are from the subcontinent, and have turned the religion into a sort of gothic-mourning type group.

These people likely mourn on Eid, and their religion is only Azadari.

Some of their beliefs are prostrating to Zuljenah (the horse), and taking from the excretion of this horse.

Enemies of the Shia love to take from these modern day Ghulat, and these people do not represent the Shia.

Eid is a day of celebration.

Agreed. Issue is their ignorance. They think we are doing something that's against the Sunnah and Ahlebait (عليه السلام) whereas in reality it's them who're innovating.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying remembering Ahlebait (عليه السلام) or crying for them is haram on Eid. Never ever said that as narrations are there that specifically tell us to remember Ahlebait (عليه السلام) on eid and that they used to get sad on these two days because they were oppressed. Ummah snatched away their rights and happiness. In Masajid on Eid, there's a brief mention of Masaib e Ahlebait (عليه السلام), people remember them and cry then offer Salah. That's what is more inline with above hadiths.
