Like what the title say, i feel bad, i cabt feel connection with Him, sometime i dont know what a connection supposed to feel like. I dont know if i really believe in the afterlife, because when i reevaluate my prayer most of it is just for worldly benefit. I make dua to make my mental health better, because i suspect it contribute something. But it fuels it further because "see, you are praying just for your gain, mental health"

I know praying for benefit is okay, i know there is that hadith about the merchant, slave, and (idk what the last one) type of worshipper

But it just feels fake. I feel like I am making God as a wishing well (naudzubillah) and i feel so bad

Even rn, my dua is just, God help me, which is just asking Him for more stuff. Which i know He is okay, its just doesnt feels.. ugh, idk how to explain it

The hadith says some people pray like slaves due to fear of Punishment, some pray like merchants solely for rewards and some pray like free people who pray to thank Allah (عزّ وجلّ). Imam Ali (عليه السلام)

This hadith explains mindset of people not that people should not pray for their lawful needs. I ask you a question, would you like that some people respect you out of fear because in their inside, they have made your image as an oppressor or would you like that people respect you for gaining from you and stop respecting you when you for their own benefit stop granting them things that can harm them. I mean why would you need such people, who want for themselves but when you demand something for their own benefit, they reject you. God always like prayers of those sincere person whose principal motive is thank Allah (عزّ وجلّ) for everything which they have got and who do not forsake it if their certain desires are not met. However, when you have established prayer, it is necessary that you ask Allah (عزّ وجلّ) for both worldly and after worldly boons that is what Allah (عزّ وجلّ) says: "Ask me and I will grant you". But, best dua is the one in which you ask benefits for both the worlds and best prayer is that which you carry out despite your certain wishes remain unfulfilled for on the Day of Judgement, Allah (عزّ وجلّ) will multiply it and give its rewards to you.

Jazak-Allah khair brother.
