I notice some molanas have very large turbans like Ayatollah Najafi, while others have small very minimal turbans. Im guessing its personal choice but just wondering if there is any special signifigance or trend pattern among those who have such an ammama.Photos: Secretary-General of AhlulBayt (a.s.) It is mostly an old style versus new style turban difference. The older ulama used to have larger turbans. If you go further back in time, you'll see that the marjas back then had still bigger turbans.

Ayatollah Muhamad Hassan al-Najafi (rh), also known as 'Sahib al-Jawahir', the author of the famous legal book 'Jawahir al-Kalam'.

Ayatollah Muhammad Ali Shahabadi (rh), the teacher of Imam Khumayni (rh).

All of these older ulama have relatively bigger turbans. It's an old style.
