Motivation to cover my head

Alsalam alaikum,

I live in a western country and I am thinking about covering my head. But a lot of different thoughts and scenarios are coming into my head.

I always carry a loose scarf/veil around my neck but because have started thinking more about death and wanting to be near Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) more. I am thinking about starting to cover my head.

But because there are a lot of other things that come with it... people judge you if you don't do it properly.  I will not be taking the proper hijab as I want to use the veil to cover my head.

So one of the things that I am most concerned about is people will start seeing me differently.  I am scared of the abuse that can come my way as in the country I live in is not majorly muslim. When you cover your head people put you in a box..they don't see you as a normal human being, you are not valued.

For example even in supermarkets, people give you weird looks if you are wearing a hijab... even when walking on the streets... I feel vulnerable when covering my head.

Another thing that I might not be able to fulfil is that I will have to change my dressing sense. I will not be able to dress or wear what I want or how I want. I am not talking about showing skin but I believe that with covering your head and showing yourself as a muslim woman there are a certain responsibilities and If I am not able to fulfil them I might end up mocking my religion. Or people might see it as such.

So sisters who do hijab... or men as well if you have any advice or words for motivation.. please let me know.

Salam, Sister. Hijab is a requirement that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) has given us, but many ignore it. So proud of you for wanting to get closer to Allah.

Your own hijab should not concern anyone else, so what others think should not bother you.

Even non-Muslims wear the headscarf on windy or rainy days. I'm pretty sure that when the weather gets colder, there will be many women who suddenly start wearing the head covering.

Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) wants you to wear hijab, so there are definite advantages or blessings for those who observe it. Consider your wearing of hijab as a loving contract between you and Allah, not because someone else (brother, parent, auntie, spouse) wants you to do it. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) protect you from harm.
