Persia which is called Iran had very long relation with the house of Ahlebait (عليه السلام). The first relation of it was when the daughter of Persian king were wedded to Imam Hussain (عليه السلام) who was also mother of Imam Ali Zainul Abideein. Afterwards, when Mamun Rasheed became the king, then Imam Reza (عليه السلام) was forced to move to Mashad in Persian and it is because of the blessings of Imam Reza (عليه السلام) that most of the Persia became Shia. Imam Reza (عليه السلام) resided and was martyred in Mashad. Hameedeh and Azadeh307 1

Several Imams and their descendants had ties with Iran. Imam Husayn’s (peace be upon him) sacrifice at Karbala greatly influenced Shia practices in Iran. Imam Ali al-Ridha (peace be upon him), the 8th Imam, was invited to live in Mashhad, where his shrine is a major pilgrimage site. The Safavid dynasty, claiming descent from Imam Musa al-Kadhim (peace be upon him), made Shia Islam the official religion of Iran, strengthening the connection between Iran and the Imam's legacy.
