Assalamu Alaykum, peace be upon you and AhlulBayt.

Between Prophets Isa AS and Muhammad SAWA were there any successors of Isa? Some say Simon, but he died relatively soon afterward and we have a period of around 500 years where there was no Imam as a guidance for the early Christians. We had guidance in Islam, and even the Jews did with their prophets and successors (e.g. Yusha ibn Nun) and all, but nothing for Christianity unless you count some early Church father and saints as "Imams" worthy of being followed--though I don't know if they were infallible or not.

Can someone shed light on this because this seems like a contradiction of Imamah and Adalah, first that Allah's line of Prophets and Imams were broken between Adam AS and Muhammad SAWA, and that Allah would allow an entire people to go astray without giving them a strong source of guidance (at least for those who lived in those 500-400 years). Unless you argue that there were prophets and Imams from the line of Ishmael but I could find no evidence for this.

Q15: RELIGIOUS GUIDE BEFORE OUR HOLY PROPHET

Who was the Prophet in the world before Hazrat Muhammad ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم).)? If it were Nabi Isa ((عليه السلام).) then how many years after his being taken up by Allah came Hazrat Muhammad ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم).)? Was it that the world was without any prophet for a long period, and then came Hazrat Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) I hope you will explain to me with full necessary details.

A. The world cannot remain without a religious guide appointed by Allah. That guide may be a prophet or a successor of the prophet (without himself being a prophet). Between Hazrat Isa ((عليه السلام).) and Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم).) there was a gap of about 6 centuries. During this period, there were 3 chains of religious guides:

a] The successors of Hazrat Isa ((عليه السلام).), last of whom was Hazrat Salman Farsi who became a follower of our Holy Prophet.

b] The Successors of Hazrat Ismail ((عليه السلام).), last of whom was Hazrat Abu Talib ((عليه السلام)). He also became a follower of our Holy Prophet. These guides in these two chains were not prophets themselves.

c] Also, there came a few prophets in various places, and name of one or two of them is mentioned in the traditions.

[sayyed Saeed Akhtar Rizvi in Your Questions Answered vol #3]

Shamoon (A) was the successor of Prophet Isa (A) and maybe he was a Prophet too.

Salaam Alaykum,

Hope all is blessings with you.

This post is very detailed regarding your question. I have quoted one of the replies within this post.

Insha-Allah you get the understanding you are looking for.

In the period between Prophet Isa (عليه السلام) and Prophet Muhammad (PBUHHP), there were many great persons raised by Allah (عزّ وجلّ) for the guidance of the people who searched for it even after the companions of Prophet Isa (عليه السلام). Such as there is mention of the priests who were aware of what is to happen in the future through the secret manuscripts which they inherited from earlier generations and they passed on this knowledge to the most credible and trustworthy people in their sphere. Such as you might have read about Bahira, a Christian priest of Syria who recognized Prophet Muhammad (PBUHHP) through the signs which he found in Prophet Muhammad (PBUHHP). So, Allah (عزّ وجلّ) has sent people time to time to guide people in their affairs. It is a well known fact that there is hierarchy in the divine sphere as well, such as there are prophets, then there are Imams and then there are saints who from time to time guide people in their affairs in case people have no access to divinely appointed Prophet or Imam. People were not left on their own in the absence of Prophets or Imams. However, when Prophet Muhammad (PBUHHP) came, many good people belonging to Christianity and Judaism converted to Islam and some chose to remain christians and jews and altered their books that is what is written in Quran: "Nor did people make schisms until came to them clear signs".

Salam there is four messengers as Nabi between prophet Muhammad (pbu) & prophet Isa (عليه السلام) from lineage of prophet Ishmael (عليه السلام) for example one of them Khalid Nabi (عليه السلام) which has been from descendants of prophet Ismail (عليه السلام) even according to some  reports his daughter has met prophet Muhammad (pbu).

Who is Khalid Nabi (S)? According to traditions, Khalid bin Sinan was born about 6123 years after the birth of Prophet Adam in "Aden" in Yemen and in the tribe of "Bani Abs Baghiz".«بنی عبس بغیض»  According to some documents, Khalid is one of the four prophets who invited people to worship Allah between the prophetic periods of Jesus and the Prophet of Islam. This prophet was sent to guide the people of Türkiye and some areas of present-day Gorgan; Therefore, there is a tomb with his name in this area. Later, a strange cemetery with the same name was formed around the tomb of Khalid (عليه السلام) and made him last throughout history.

Jirjīs al-Nabī (a) (Arabic: جِرْجیس النَبی) was, according to some Islamic sources, a prophet who emerged after Prophet Jesus (a) and before Islam. According to some other sources, he was a righteous servant of God who hid his faith. He is also introduced as one of the Apostles of Jesus (a). In his Bihar al-anwar, al-Allama al-Majlisi cites the story of Jirjis (a), but considers it as undocumented because it is not confirmed in hadiths from the Infallibles (a), although in some books of supplications, "Jirjis" is mentioned along with other prophets.

Quote

In historical sources, Jirjis (a) is said to be from Palestine or Rome. He was a generous merchant who frequently donated money to needy people.

On some accounts, Jirjis (a) went to Syria to guide its idol-worshiping unjust king to the right path. However, there are other accounts according to which he donated his money and migrated to Syria and its ruler in order to protect his faith. After meeting the king of Syria, Jirjis (a) called him to worship God and abandon idolatry. When Jirjis (a) refused to honor the idols, the king ordered his torture and execution.

After the murder, Jirjis (a) came to life again. The king ordered his execution again. This happened three times. In the fourth time, he cursed the king of Syria and his people and asked God to let him die to be emancipated from pains.

Some sources take the story of Jirjis (a) to be inspired by the character of Saint George, who was known among Christians as a Divine and legendary figure.
