Salam,

I'm totally lost on what to name our baby girl due in a couple months. She will have a twin brother, my husband is already set on the name Ibrahim for him. So that leaves me with naming the girl.

What are some names inspired by Prophets or Ahlulbayt, like some names that maybe they named their daughters, or pious relatives? But that are a little less common? Or something beautiful from the Quran. The baby name list websites give me a headache.

I named our first daughter Fiddha if that helps.

Also plz make dua that everything goes well for us, twins was a surprise and we also have 2 other young kids to care for so def need the duas.

Wassalam,

Congratulations on the twins. بارک ﷲ فیھم.

If you are keen on one of the names of the Ahl al-Bayt (ams) and yet something uncommon, you may consider 'Fattoum' (فطّوم) ; it is a derivative of 'Fatimah', and has the same meaning as the parent word. It is a 'name of endearment'/'pet name' ( الإسم التحبب) in Arab usage, where the addressee's names are often tweaked a little to show special affection.

Wasalam,

Congratulations! May Allah protect them and their offspring from shaytan.

ʾĀmina (Arabic: آمنة, also anglicized as Aaminah or Amna) meaning "safe one, protected"

 OR

Salaama/Salama meaning safety; taken from the verse of Quran about Prophet Ibrahim (عليه السلام), 21:69

قُلْنَا يَـٰنَارُ كُونِى بَرْدًۭا وَسَلَـٰمًا عَلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ

We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!"

PS- I have seen the name spelt both with and without a shaddah over the 'taa' (فطوم/Fatoum), both of these seem to be acceptable usages. Decide according to whatever suits you better, in case you choose to go with this name.

If you spell it Ebrahim, you could choose Esmat.

With the Ibrahim, go with Ismat.

It means Protective, Honor, Chastity, Purity, etc.

Interesting... Never heard of that name before and I do like the meaning. Although I like the sound of Ismah better than Ismat.

Still taking suggestions! Thanks so much everyone for all the suggestions so far as well your duas!

However on second thought that sounds like the same word that means "name" :/

Would it be too out there to have the name Muwaddah Zahra? What are some other derivatives of the term Muwaddah or the root word that might work better? It is from the Quran 42:23 "... Say I do not ask any reward except love of my relatives..."

@AbdusSibtayn

I looked up some dictionaries and even tafasir (both Shi'a and Sunni) after you asked this, and I had to struggle to find even the radical (جذر) of this word; pretty much every explanation referred me back to the same Qur'anic verse.

The root of the word is ود، and I have not been able to find any other derivative noun apart from maybe الودود, which is one of the names of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) and a male one at that, hence not an option. The rest are all verbal forms, and these two are pretty much it.

Of course, the choice is all yours. If you think that the name is good enough then what the others think doesn't matter that much. If you are based in the West then people might encounter difficulties with that name, in which case a short and convenient name, yet one that is to your liking may be preferred, but if you have set your heart on it then these things are pretty much irrelevant.

Thank you very much! I will take all that into consideration.

Welcome.

One more thing- it is spelt 'Mawaddah', with a fatha over the 'meem'. Pronouncing it with a damma over the meem will change its meaning.

@ireallywannaknow From google: The name Mawaddah means "affection", "love", or "friendliness". The literal meaning of Mawaddah is "liking", which can lead to love and affection.

Salam although google translation is true  usually Mawaddah doesn't  use as name or part of name except in Pakistan & indian subcontinent anyway using it as combination with other names likewise Zahra has no problem which it's depends on culture of parents .

Uzra"(virgin )  as title of lady Fatima

Sadiqeh (feminine of Sadiq : friend)

what about Baneen? :-) May Allah protect and preserve your family!

Salam it think Umm al Baneen will be better because Baneen  itself means  sons while  Umm al Baneen means mother of sons which will be better for a girl .

Wa alaikum asalam, of course, Ummul Baneen full name, Baneen for short. :)Though it literally means “sons”, it’s seen as a feminine name because of its euphony.
