3:24

That is because they say, "Never will the Fire touch us except for [a few] numbered days," and [because] they were deluded in their religion by what they were inventing.

3:25

So how will it be when We assemble them for a Day about which there is no doubt? And each soul will be compensated [in full for] what it earned, and they will not be wronged.

Also, the following Quranic verses talk about Barzakh, some people confuse it with Hell Fire and make conclusion that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) punishment is not permanent:

So as to those who are unhappy, they shall be in the fire; for them shall be sighing and groaning in it: Abiding therein so long as the heavens and the earth endure, except as your Lord please; surely your Lord is the mighty doer of what He intends. And as to those who are made happy, they shall be in the garden, abiding in it as long as the heavens and the earth endure, except as your Lord please; a gift which shall never be cut off.” (Surah Hud 11:106-108)

The world is going to end soon, if Christians and Jews can feel it, we Muslims can too. Let’s repent for our sins, do good as much as we can and then inshallah will bless us

Hellfire being forever / eternal is very clear in the Book of Allah ta'ala. Even if one regards the above Aya regarding Jahannam and not Barzakh, even then it can not be used in order to claim that it's temporary, because one can easily respond to those who claim this that Allah ta'ala has informed us about His Will [of it being forever] in other than this Aya.

Allah ta'ala didn't just inform us that hellfire is eternal, but also that its people will not be able to leave it:

2:167

Those who followed will say, "If only we had another turn [at worldly life] so we could disassociate ourselves from them as they have disassociated themselves from us." Thus will Allāh show them their deeds as regrets upon them. And they are never to emerge from the Fire.

_

I think one of the reasons why some people have a problem in accepting the fact of hellfire being eternal is how many Muslims and Christians present the way to salvation. Many people from both religions will basically act as if being a Muslim or being a Christian is enough to ultimately attain salvation and that major sins and crimes without sincere repentance do not lead to eternal damnation.

This basically makes salvation a matter of luck: If you were lucky to be born into the family / society with the correct religion, you will be saved (because the majority of people follow the religion of their family / society) and otherwise you will be damned.

In the Book of Allah ta'ala this idea that a label is enough for salvation is rejected:

2:111

And they say, "None will enter Paradise except one who is a Jew or a Christian." That is [merely] their wishful thinking. Say, "Produce your proof, if you should be truthful."

2:112

Yes, [on the contrary], whoever submits his face [i.e., self] to Allāh while being a doer of good will have his reward with his Lord. And no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve.

_

While the only true and correct religion and way of life is Islam with Allah ta'ala, He jalla jalaluhu may also forgive non-Muslims, who were honest in their belief in Him and the hereafter and who did good deeds and abstained from major crimes and sins:

5:69

Indeed, those who have believed and those who were Jews or Sabeans or Christians - those [among them] who believed in Allāh and the Last Day and did righteousness - no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve.

_

Allah ta'ala is the Lord of the Worlds and not just the Lord of a specific people, religion or sect.

He jalla jalaluhu has made this life a test for all of humankind, so that the truthful ones and the liars will become evident.

As for those who were honest, humble and just and who tried to know the truth and live according to it, then their reward is with Allah ta'ala.

As for those who looked down upon others, committed major crimes, rejected / covered  the truth when it became clear to them and were unjust to others, then they indeed deserve eternal hellfire.

26:88

The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children

26:89

But only one who comes to Allāh with a sound heart."

26:90

And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous.

26:91

And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators,

_

21:47

And We place the scales of justice for the Day of Resurrection, so no soul will be treated unjustly at all. And if there is [even] the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth. And sufficient are We as accountant.

_

99:7

So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it,

99:8

And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it.

Allah jalla jalaluhu has informed us about people, who will commit sins other thank Shirk and that they will abide in hellfire forever.

Such as here:

4:13

These are the limits [set by] Allāh, and whoever obeys Allāh and His Messenger will be admitted by Him to gardens [in Paradise] under which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein; and that is the great attainment.

4:14

And whoever disobeys Allāh and His Messenger and transgresses His limits - He will put him into the Fire to abide eternally therein, and he will have a humiliating punishment.

_

The context here is about inheritance such that it applies to Muslims.

Here is another example:

2:275

Those who consume interest cannot stand [on the Day of Resurrection] except as one stands who is being beaten by Satan into insanity. That is because they say, "Trade is [just] like interest." But Allāh has permitted trade and has forbidden interest. So whoever has received an admonition from his Lord and desists may have what is past, and his affair rests with Allāh. But whoever returns [to dealing in interest or usury] - those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide eternally therein.

_

Note how returning to Riba (which is a sin other than Shirk) leads to eternal hellfire.

Who will enter al-Janna (paradise)?: The people of Taqwa!

19:63

That is Paradise, which We give as inheritance to those of Our servants who were fearing of Allāh.

_

13:35

The example [i.e., description] of Paradise, which the righteous have been promised, ...

Indeed, for the righteous is attainment -

39:73

Within gardens and springs,

77:41

Indeed, the righteous will be among shades and springs

77:42

And fruits from whatever they desire,

So what about those who were disobediant, criminals, oppressors and their likes? Will they enter al-Janna as some people claim? Let's see.

What about the disobediant ones? :

72:23

...

... And whoever disobeys Allāh and His Messenger - then indeed, for him is the fire of Hell; they will abide therein forever.

_

What about the wicked?:

82:14

And indeed, the wicked will be in Hellfire.

82:15

They will [enter to] burn therein on the Day of Recompense,

82:16

And never therefrom will they be absent.

_

What about the criminals?:

43:74

Indeed, the criminals will be in the punishment of Hell, abiding eternally.

43:75

It will not be allowed to subside for them, and they, therein, are in despair.

_

What about those who defiantly disobeyed?

32:20

But as for those who defiantly disobeyed, their refuge is the Fire. Every time they wish to emerge from it, they will be returned to it ...

_

So what about the oppressors? :

2:165

...

... And if only they who have wronged would consider [that] when they see the punishment, [they will be certain] that all power belongs to Allāh and that Allāh is severe in punishment.

2:166

[And they should consider that] when those who have been followed disassociate themselves from those who followed [them], and they [all] see the punishment, and cut off from them are the ties [of relationship],

2:167

Those who followed will say, "If only we had another turn [at worldly life] so we could disassociate ourselves from them as they have disassociated themselves from us." Thus will Allāh show them their deeds as regrets upon them. And they are never to emerge from the Fire.

_

Conclusion: All the above types of people will enter Jahannam (hellfire) and will not exit it. We ask Allah ta'ala for well-being and protection.

StrangerInThisWorld,

InshaAllah, You have cited key verses, that prove your stance on our fate in the next life being eternal, and how those subjects to punishment will find no escape.

I would like to add one point to the verse you shared about the judgement of the people of the books, that are not Muslims. My interpretation of the verses that address the people of the books who are not Muslim, is that God (The Most High) expects them to be pursuing Islam during their lives. This is visible in today's times where we see some Christians becoming more monotheistic and rejecting the false trinity doctrine. The closer they get to the truth, InshaAllah, the closer they get to submitting themselves to God Once they are worshipping the One and Only God Almighty, and they repent for the previous confusion (shirk), they are already Muslims if they submit and prostrate. I would assume at that stage they know they are Muslim, but God (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) knows best.

There are some rare, less common sects of Christianity that do not accept the trinity doctrine, and who understand that The Messiah, Issa (عليه السلام), was a messenger. The good thing is, these believers are not doing shirk and are pursuing Islam even if they do not know it.

As you know there were the pre Islamic days of ignorance and the current times where the truth and scripture that proves the Oneness of God (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) is widely available worldwide. There are millions of Muslims that are more than willing to discuss the religion with people from the other major faiths. That leads me to think there is not much room for excuses in modern time. Any religious person is aware of Islam, in terms of it being the second largest faith by numbers of followers. They have to take the step to investigate. Ultimately, no matter how much they investigate, they have to be chosen by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) and they have to

I am speaking from personal experience. Before I submitted, InshaAllah, I was investigating the scriptures and religious history. Once I found the truth of Islam, Alhamdullilah, I submitted to God We can only hope for others that they find the straight path, but they will face judgement just like us and they will be handed their book. Let's focus on sharpening our practice of the Deen so that we receive our book in our right hand, and may the straight path lead us to the forever victory of Jannah,  InshaAllah.

May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) reward you for defending truth and scripture.

Let me also mention the Shahada. God (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) as the witness when they officially accept and declare the faith. We can help people around us who believe in God (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) but have not yet summitted. Most importantly helping them understand the Oneness of God and what it means to submit.

They (the people of the books) have to be actively pursuing truth and living in a way that leads them to truth. The best advice to give our Christian friends is avoiding haram such as alcohol, gambling, pork, etc, and avoiding following establishment lies such as the trinity doctrine, that are not mentioned anywhere in their book. Often I show them verses in their book, the Bible, where these things are prohibited.

I would like to share the following (found on the TheZaydiSchool-channel):

___

Imām Nāṣir al-Uṭrūsh

al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. ʿUmar b. ʿAlī b. Ḥusayn b. ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib said regarding those who persist in sinning:

"Know - may Allāh guide you - that whoever persists in major sins and continues to disobey Allāh does so out of weak certainty in Allāh’s warnings and disregard for His sanctities. Such individuals are doubtful about Paradise and Hell, and suspicious of the truth to which they are called. Hearts, bodies, and minds are naturally inclined to avoid pain and suffering. Consider a person who experiences even a minor headache or fever for a single day: if advised to abstain from food, drink, or intimacy - things that are the delights of this worldly life - they would willingly endure hunger and thirst and forgo all pleasures, fearing the increase or persistence of their pain and hoping for relief.

These fleeting worldly pleasures - over which people are tempted, for which the Hereafter is exchanged, family ties are severed, reputations are sullied, and tyrannical rulers are obeyed - cause one to fear imprisonment, punishment, or the displeasure of oppressive authorities. Yet, they neglect the worship of their Lord. If such individuals truly had firm belief in Paradise, Hellfire, and what Allāh has promised and warned of, and if they sincerely believed in His words:

{Whenever their skins are scorched, We will replace them with new skins so they may taste the punishment. Indeed, Allāh is Almighty, All-Wise} [al-Nisāʾ: 56],

then they would recognize Allāh’s might in punishing His enemies and His wisdom in fulfilling His promises and warnings. They would not deliberately disobey Him, persist in what He dislikes, or treat His sacred laws with contempt. And from Allāh help is sought.

Know that true faith belongs only to those who possess certainty. No one who persists in disobeying their Creator can claim genuine certainty. Allāh says:

{Alif, Lām, Mīm. This is the Book about which there is no doubt… } to His saying {They are the ones who will be successful} [al-Baqarah: 1-5].

What predominates among people in their persistence in sinning is weak certainty. Their outward declaration of the testimony of faith, fasting, and prayers are practices they have merely become accustomed to, securing their lives by adhering to them. However, even what they perform from these acts is often not done with sincerity, save for a few whom Allāh has protected and who truly fear Him."

Really eye opening!
I always thought there's a possibility for forgiveness even for un-repented major sins on the day of judgement.

Aside from shirk and murder, are there specific major sins that lands one in hell for eternity or all of them?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've read that there are like 30-40 major sins.

What about non musim who commits major sins like usury? (Wait, is usury a major sin?)

And do this "major sins without repentance = hell fire" also apply to the non muslim (including polytheist)?

Salam they will be judged based on their  own rules & their Fitra ; which the Fitra of anyone opposes committing major sins which everyone with normal Fitra which it's not polluted by too much darkness of sins will oppose committing major sins so then he  will try to fix his mistake likewise repentance  & etc so therefore  "major sins without repentance = hell fire" will be applied to everyone even "the non muslim (including polytheist)" .
