Take care, drink water and wear a hat or cap wherever you go.

The homecoming of pilgrims who have completed the Hajj is usually an opportunity to celebrate with their loved ones. This year, however, hundreds of families in Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan and Jordan are in mourning: More than a thousand pilgrims have died during the pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, which took place from Friday, June 14, to Wednesday, June 19 with the thermometer showing intense heat, topping 50°C on Monday.

Mecca sees over 1,000 deaths during the Hajj, a pilgrimage threatened by climate change

Temperatures topped 50°C as over 1.8 million Muslims from some 20 countries flocked to Saudi Arabia's holy city from June 14 to 19.

Condolences. Innaa lillahi Wa Innaa Ilayhi Raaji'oon. "Indeed to Allah we belong, and to Him we return." [Holy Qur'an 2:156] (recite Fatiha)

I can't vouch for the details, but see the quotation below

The key contention here is something that Le Monde is not mentioning in its article. This poster argues that the cause of the problem is the use of tourist visas to do Hajj by poor Arabs from neighbouring countries.

It's argued that Hajis find it easier/cheaper to get tourist visas to attend music concerts than is the case for the Hajj.

The above sounds quite plausible to me.

The poster contends that the deaths occurred because the Saudis were trying to control access for hajis on tourist visas.

There were some deaths during Hajj, but most of the thousands who died were not the regular Hajj pilgrims but those who obtained the Saudi tourism visa. Saudi Arabia thought they were going to their concerts, but they ended up in Hajj. Most of the deaths occurred in this incident due to the Saudi trap, which many considered a revenge on them because of their online protests.

There is so much infrastructure that could be built to prevent this but Saudi Govt refuses to do it. They import nice marble floors to go around the Kaaba and in Medina with the Umbrellas because these look nice on camera. Go to the other places people go in Hajj like Mina, Muzdalifa, and Arafat and there is almost no infrastructure. In Arafat, they have porta potties (those toilets in a plastic box) and even those you have to wait in line for sometimes more than 1 hr to go to the bathroom. In Mina and Muzdalifah there is basically no crowd control or any way for people to get to the Jamarat in a safe way. The govt would rather build casinos and indoor ski resorts rather than infrastructure for hajj. It shows you where the priorities are with them.
