Can I just assume tap water and other sources of water are kurr?

I have a decent bit of confusion right now. To set the stage I'm a new convert to Shiism (was another sect before) and I've been trying to understand the rulings on kurr water. Specifically tap water and other water that circulates through my house. Can I just assume it's kurr? I come from a 5 family household and we use water tankers to get water. The average water tanker holds 2000 gallons of water at least (more than 12 times kurr). An average four family household uses around half a kurr per day at least from my research and we call a tanker every few weeks. Plus I've seen some maraji like Syed Hakeem (R) just treat tap water as kurr by default. There is nothing odd about my house that would make it have less than average. So I'm pretty sure it should be. But I don't have 100% empirical proof. To be clear I do taqlid of Khamenei(R) but if I can't find his ruling I default to Sistani(R) or Khomeini's(R) risalah.

:salam:

You made your calculations, water will most of the time be kurr. Maybe if the water truck does not come for a few weeks subsequently then there might be ishkal on the topic. But from what you seem to say, it would take about 18 days to be under one kurr.

I think you can be at ease and consider kurr.

Quantity

According to majority of jurists an amount of water that fills a container, each side of which is three and half spans of a normal hand is kurr water. Hence, the volume of kurr water is forty two and seven eighth cubic spans of the hand. Other quantities such as thirty six or twenty seven cubic spans of the hand,[1] 377 kg or 384 kg[2] or … are mentioned as well. Some said, "All jurists agree that 480 kg of water is kurr."[3]

Rulings

  • There are two ways for establishing that a quantity of water is kurr,
  1. One becomes sure about that.
  2. Two just men say so.
