As salamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala Ali Muhammad at tayyibinat Tahireen.

Is it allowed for us to make turbah from the local soil? I'm from the Philippines, and in order to have a piece of Turban from the turab of Karbala is too expensive and I just can't afford it. So again, is it allowed to make Turbahs from the soil of my local area?

Jazakallahu Khayr.

Salam yusuf! Nice to hear from shias in the Philippines, how are you guys doing?

You can definetely make a turbah from local soil, just make sure its clean.

Do you live anywhere near the coast, if so i might stop by and bring a bag of turbahs with me since we have alot laying around.

Wswrwb brother, you might know this already but you can do sajjdah on anything that is from nature (i.e. created by Allah((سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى))) which is tahir, not edible and not stolen.
So you can technically do sajjdah on any stone/rock you find out in nature, or a piece of wood (untreated), or if your outside you can do sajjdah straight on the ground if your standing on soil.

That which is created by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) is far better than that which created by man, such as processed prayer carpets. The Prophet(عليه السلام) himself used to pray either directly on the soil or on a khumrah which is a mat constructed from palm leaves (i.e. natural). Having said that, if you can do sajjdah on the soil of Karbala, it has huge symbolic significance and the soil of Karbala is not like any normal soil.

Out of curiosity, is grass permissible? I ask since I've seen Shias using turbahs while praying outside on the grass. It seemed redundant to me since grass is natural and follows the criteria for the items we're allowing using.

Slam yeah you can prostrate on grass too which Shias are using Turbah for it's reward & access to pure soil but on the other hand when you are propstrating on grass maybe it contains too much fertilizer  or other materials so then you won't has access to pure soil .

Wa 'alaykum as Salam!

Shi'as here are not that large in number, the majority of Muslims here are mostly Ahlus Sunnah and Salafiy. I would be so grateful by your wonderful offer, but we're far from the coast sister.

Jazakallahu khayr sister. Anday Allah always keep you safe.

Salawat!

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa aali Muhammad!

As salamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh brother/sister.

May Allah reward you for your good intentions. I don't know the information of our local post office, and when I ask one of my friends he said that it will be still expensive to have packages like these from foreign countries. I just can't afford it even if I want it. I will include you in my du'as that Allah may reward you and bless you always through the intercession of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his family.

Jazakallahu khayr.

:salam:

I found sajdah on grass to be really itchy. Gives like allergy to my forehead.

Am I the only one ?

So when I am in the situation of praying like in a parc or in the woods,  I always find a small rock for sajdah.
