Why did Umar refuse Prophet Muhammad's for paper and pen when the Holy Prophet was on his death bed?

It really doesn't matter why, but what matters is that you can clearly see that even before the final days, there were still companions who disagree and disobey the Prophet instruction. It also gives you a warning of disunity after the Prophet, to whom people are going to side with.

The Messenger ˹firmly˺ believes in what has been revealed to him from his Lord, and so do the believers. They ˹all˺ believe in Allah, His angels, His Books, and His messengers. ˹They proclaim,˺ “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and obey. ˹We seek˺ Your forgiveness, our Lord! And to You ˹alone˺ is the final return.”

I asked this question on Baba Gangu Telly's (Mufti Abu Layth Sahib gave this name)  youtube channel. Reactions were:

1-This hadith is doubtful (ok but it's from Bukhari)

2-This is a single chain (no, Ibn Abbas in Bukhari, and Jabir in Musannaf Ibn Abu Ya'la, and apparently there are more)

3-This can't be true, we don't take this as aqeeda (HUH??? WTH does this have to do with Aqeeda???!!!)

Also, enough with this discussion of history which needs sahih hadith only. It's a discussion of history. There's probability it might or might not have happened. It's not an issue of aqeedah or fiqh. Also, when people say fulan is known for weak memory, that means anyone can be dismissed just like that.

Open up any seerah of sahaba and see if every single one of them can be substantiated by 100% sahih hadith.

Although umar was concerned with the health of messenger of allah, he is not correct here. It would be better if he gave the pen and paper. Prophet writing abu bakr's name in that paper would have shut mouths till the day of judgement.

Why were other Sahaba around umar not overriding him ?
Wasn’t anyone else there ?

But thanks to him you are misguided till today :hahaha:
Since the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) told to bring something to write down so Ashaab will not be misguided, to which they refused. Sad.

That's an argument against you not us. You now have to accept that prophet left them without telling them that is so important just because they were resistant at first. That's not prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to do. Despite all the resistance, prophet used to say whatever he needs to say. Because if a man cannot be called a perfect guide if he just gave up because people showed resistance. And our prophet is the perfect guide.

that's literally no argument against us. If people don't let someone talk, thats an entirely different thing it has nothing to do with someone being an imperfect guide. Rather, its against you and your imam because its hard to digest implication of denying something to Rasool (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) i:e raising voice above prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), making him angry and telling everyone to get lost, then him (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) dying without Umar repenting. I can't say much as i fear being in Pakistan :hahaha:

That is literally an argument against you. After this incident, prophet was alive for four days and gave many instructions to the comapanions in these days. You are trying to convince me that prophet said whatever he wants despite the kuffar torturing him and his followers, suddenly he didn't wrote the will just because umar and others said that prophet is ill and should rest. Good luck with that

Arrogance, rebellion, Nifaq, Lust for power, assuming he knew better than Allah and His Prophet (s), false bravado.
