Salaams, my life goal since I was a child is to become part of the 313.

I have heard that they fast a lot, (almost everyday) and pray during the night. I am trying to build up my spiritual connection with God almighty. And considering it is now winter and short days, I figured now would be a good time to start fasting everyday.

I am in my youth, so that makes it even better.

But I got two questions now:

1. Is it okay or is it Makruh to have Suhoor just before you go to bed after Maghrib, Isha and Iftar. (Usually go to bed by 9pm to 10pm). Or is it recommended/mustahab to wake up early in the morning before Fajr and have Suhoor at that time.

2. I am trying to gain weight and muscle, due to me being very skinny (45KG) and I am following this routine called the "Hybrid Calisthenics Routine 2.0" (you can search it up if you want it's pretty good).

I am devoted to being part of the 313 but the whole fasting thing I am afraid may contradict with my goal to gain weight. What should I do in this situation? Is it possible that I could still gain weight with what I eat at Suhoor and Iftar.

Salaam Alaykum Brother,

1. You can do Salat Layl before going to bed or any time after Isha. No problem with that. It's better to do it before Fajr, but you still benefit by doing it before going to bed. If you missed it for any reason, you can still do Qada Salat Layl the day after. If you have Wajib Qada prays (صلاه یومیه), try do that first.

2. Regarding weight, I'm not sure.

Regarding fasting everyday, there's Hadith that whoever fasts beginning of the month, the mid of the month, and the last of the month, is like a person who fasted entire month. You don't need to fast everyday. Look for the beginning, mid, and last of the month and fast 3 days only (First Thu of the 1st-10th, first Wed of the 11th-20th, last Thu of 21th-30th). By month here I mean lunar calendar months like Rajab, Shaaban, etc. There are days which are Haram to fast. There are months which are recommended to fast as much as you can like Rajab, Shaaban. Entire Ramadan month is of course Wajib. If you have missed Wajib fasts, try do that first.

Alaikum salam, thank you for the response my friend.

I am. A bit confused with your answer to my first question, you are talking about Salat Layla, but I was asking about Suhoor/Sahr (the meal you have before you start fasting)

But a much appreciated answer for the 2nd question though, Jazakhallah Khair.

It highly depends on your diet anyway fasting & training don't have contradiction with each other which It has been recorded that martyr Ali Sayyad Shirazi who has been commander of the ground force of Iran in sacred defence against cursed Saddam although of fasting while he was doing too hard military exercises which he has had great amount of stamina & fast reaction & fast decision making although doing both of them in same time .

Interview with Mahmoud Kaman

Memories of My Commander

How did you visit Mr. Sayyad Shirazi in United States?

At the same time I was dispatched, Sayyad Shirazi had accepted in great course of artillery and he had been also deployed to USA. Sayyad was at a year higher than me in the officer college but we knew each other and were two years with together. We did exercise with together. Sayyad was athlete and we were close and intimate friends. It's interesting to tell you about beliefs of the guys; their beliefs were very deep. In the officer college, when Ramadan began, they said announce number of those fast. We were in the college all day and night and we just went home on Thursday and Fridays, and we should be in college from Friday evening. Commander of the officer college was marshal. If he is alive, God protects him, if he died, God bless him. During the revolution, he criticized Shah several times, and Shah expelled him from the officer college. He had said the king make many mistakes. He ordered for Ramadan to cook and distribute fresh food for Suhur and Iftar. We did not have a mosque, but we prayed in doorway of sanatorium that was almost large. Sayyad Shirazi was among the guys who fast and we were together in dining room, during Iftar and Suhur.

That's incredible, did he look like a body builder as well despite fasting

Considering what I said at the start, about how motivated and dedicated I am to becoming part of the 313. I got a question about them.

Will they do every single thing that is Mustahab and avoid every single thing that is Makruh? Will I have to do that if I want to be part of the 313?

That meal is not Wajib to have. You can have it before bed, or before Fajr, or not have it at all.

Salam no he looked like an average person anyway he could defeat any body builder in warzone which another example is martyr Abshenasan  who has nicknamed  "Desert Lion" which he has been an average person in appearance but due to his courage & being professional in multiple sports including Athletics  , Ping Pong , Volleyball , Basketball , Judo , horse riding & swimming  has been best commando & expert of guerilla warfare who has been a great nightmare for army of cursed Saddam which mixture of having a body builder body & being a strong commando is just a product of Hollywood likewise movies of Arnold  Schwarzenegger which have been propaganda movies by Hollywood about American army while such so called American body builder soldiers are most weak soldiers which they have no courage even they are too coward people .

Salam it's mostly about serving poor & needy & oppressed people kindly  & being enemy of oppressors & tyrants which main attribute of 313 is

"those who are with him are hard against the faithless and merciful amongst themselves" which you can find in examples likewise martyr general Soleimani & other people likewise him .

Quote

Muhammad, the Apostle of Allah, and those who are with him are hard against the faithless and merciful amongst themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating [in worship], seeking Allah’s grace, and [His] pleasure. Their mark is [visible] on their faces, from the effect of prostration. Such is their description in the Torah and their description in the Evangel. Like a tillage that sends out its shoots and builds them up, and they grow stout and settle on their stalks, impressing the sowers, so that He may enrage the faithless by them. Allah has promised those of them who have faith and do righteous deeds forgiveness and a great reward. (29)
