Salam everyone

I know this has been discussed before, and I skimmed several threads, but with the varying opinions and digressions, I just wanted to get a coherent view-point again. So here goes:

  • Is it ok to put money in a savings account? 
  • Is it ok to buy a house through mortgage?

I realize that the general idea to make those acceptable is to ensure that the intention is not to take a loan, but are there any caveats to that ruling (maybe something like not having a variable rate of interest etc.?).
