28-5 Ahmad ibn Zyad ibn Ja’far al-Hamedany - may God be pleased with him - narrated that Ali ibn Ibrahim ibn Hashim quoted his father, on the authority of Muhammad ibn Abi Umayr, on the authority of Hisham ibn Salim that Aba Abdullah as-Sadiq (MGB) said, “There were twelve-thousand companions for God’s Prophet (MGB). Eight-thousand of them were from Medina, two-thousand of them were from Mecca and another two-thousand of them were the free atheist who had become Muslims. There were no Qadarites , Marajites, Kharajites , schismatics (Mo’tazelites), nor any who act according to their own opinions. They cried day and night and said, ‘O God! Please take away our souls before we eat barley bread.’”

I don't understand. Don't your narrations say all of them apostated except 3 then many of them returned. If you say that 8000 companions retired to ali then why didn't they give bayyah to ali then.

This is an often-repeated Wahhabi lie...Shi'a only hate those companions who physically fought against the family of the Prophet or oppressed or marginalized them or badmouthed them (like Umayyad Dynasty's 70 year propaganda and defamation campaign)

We love more than 12000 Companions.

I believe I read somewhere that the 12,000 referred to here where more like 'disciples' (in the Christian, Sufi or Shi'i sense) and not mere "companions" (in the Sunni sense)...these 12,000 had an intimate association with the Prophet and he wrote an ijaza for each and every one of them after they completed a duration under his (s) direct tutelage and he (s) later commissioned them out into the world to help spread Islam
