Salaams wanted to get some different opinions about music. Is it necessary to avoid going to certain public places that have music if going is optional? Ie I want to go to a cafe just to relax and read a book, but I know they’ll have music in the background. Is it necessary for me to avoid going there? Or is that going to extremes?

Btw I’m not referring to all public places bc obviously buying groceries, clothes etc is a necessity and we can’t avoid it. Specifically referring to optional things.

Salaam, it depends on the intention. If your intention is going somewhere with music to do other haram acts like dance or consume music directly aka concert then it can be haram. But your intention is to go relax read a book and you have no control over the music they play (usually low). I think it is fine.. you can even bring a pair of headphones and listen to your own thing.
