When “Abu-Bakr” became caliph, he went on pulpit and said:

أما بعد أيها الناس فاني قد وليت عليكم ولست بخيركم ... وهذا إسناد صحيح.

O people! I became your caliph while I’m not the best of you….

The document of this issue is valid

Al-Bidayah and al-Nahayah, v 7, p6

While Prophet [(صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)] said:

If someone becomes the leader of some Muslims while he knows that there is someone who is superior than him in the society, he’s betrayed god, Prophet and Muslims.

Tamhid al-awae’l, v1, p 481

We ask Sunnis:

1: as “Abu-Bakr” admitted he wasn’t superior than others, so why did he take on the caliphate?

2: according to prophet [(صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)]’s narrative if “Abu-Bakr” is traitor or not?

why have evil ideas?  the prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) chose him as a best friend you think Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) will make his best friend an evil person?  In any lead position you must not want it.  you must reject it.   It is out of modesty and the extreme test that one must refrain from such a task.  He accepted the task after a majority consensus that agreed he would be a good position since he is the oldest as well.  The sahaba knew that leadership is temporary and short so why fight over it?  ONly shia and sunni and other groups fight over it after the time has passed.  The civil wars were also a misunderstanding and instigation by evil people within armies.

Salam dear brother, you have to be careful with such reasoning. Allah sw does not predetermine everything, this not Christianity.  I already brought you verses and I am sure you know that the prophets of God were married to disbelievers whom Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) says will be in the hellfire. Are you accusing God, by the same logic, of putting His representatives with the worst of the worst? What about the case of Prophet Noah whom his son, his flesh, rejected the command of Allah? Are you accusing therefore God of misguiding? In fact Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) warns mankind and clearly blames their own misdoings in the red text.

Allah sets forth an example to those who disbelieve the wife of Nuh and the wife of Lut: they were both under two of Our righteous servants, but they acted treacherously towards them so they availed them naught against Allah, and it was said: Enter both the fire with those who enter.” Surah Tahrim 66:10

And it sailed with them through waves like mountains, and Noah called to his son who was apart [from them], "O my son, come aboard with us and be not with the disbelievers."

He replied, “I will take refuge on a mountain, which will protect me from the water.” Noah cried, “Today no one is protected from Allah’s decree except those to whom He shows mercy!” And the waves came between them, and his son was among the drowned.

Wives/children are closer than friends and they were evil doing, so how would just being a friend be any different?

Lets forget about all the times Ali ibn Ali was chosen and brought up in terms of status and virtue by even abu bakr and umars own words (if you want evidence from sunni historians I can share it)...How does being the oldest make one the best capable of being the leader? That does not sound rational. In america many old politicians are the most corrupt of the corrupt, and senile. Also werent there people much older than abu bakr like his own dad? How could they decide something in relation to "Al Islam" without the permission and command from the prophet himself? Not a single verse in the quran does Allah allow the people to choose without the command of the prophet. Besides how could they leave the prophets side while he was dying? There is no excuse. They did not even allow the prominent members of ahlulbayt to be present. Imagine if Ali was at saqifa but not abu bakr or umar, I am sure the reaction would be different.. They were worried about their own worldly desires. They did not even go to the washing of his body, what kind of "best companions" are they? Also why did they not go to the prophets family for condolences even after the whole saqifa event? Is that not disheartening? How do you not be by his side while he is dying, while he is being buried, not even mourning, AND not seeking condolences with his family? What kind of companions are these?

Washington Irving

Mohammed's only remaining child, Fatima, the wife of Ali, came presently to see him. Ayesha used to say that she never saw anyone resemble the Prophet more in sweetness of temper than this, his daughter. He treated her always with respectful tenderness. When she came to him, he used to rise up, go towards her, take her by the hand, and kiss it, and would seat her in his own place. Their meeting on this occasion is thus related by Ayesha, in the traditions preserved by Abulfida.

“Welcome my child,” said the Prophet, and made her sit beside him. He then whispered something in her ear, at which she wept. Perceiving her affliction, he whispered something more, and her countenance brightened with joy.

“What is the meaning of this?” said I to Fatima. “The Prophet honors thee with a mark of confidence never bestowed upon any of his wives.” “I cannot disclose the secret of the Prophet of God,” replied Fatima.

Nevertheless, after his death, she declared that at first he announced to her his impending death; but seeing her weep, consoled her with the assurance that she would shortly follow him and become a princess in heaven.” (The Life of Mohammed)

Toward the afternoon the Apostle had a feeling of great restlessness. He repeatedly moistened his face with cold water from a jug beside him. Seeing him in such pain, Fatima cried: “O my father's distress!” He again tried to comfort her, and said: “After this day, your father will never be in distress again.” And he added: “When I die, say, 'We are for Allah, and toward Him is our return.'“

Presently, his breathing became irregular, and he was heard to murmur something. Ibn Saad says in his Tabqaat that the Apostle was saying: “All I seek now is the company of Allah.” These were his last words.

Muhammad was heard to repeat these words thrice, and then he fell silent – for ever! Muhammad, the Last Messenger of God on this earth, had died.

Ayesha says: “I placed a pillow under his head, and covered his face with a mantle. Then I stood up with other women, and we all started crying, beating our breasts and heads, and slapping our faces.”

Muhammad, the Prophet of Islam, died on Monday, the first of Rabi al-Awwal of the eleventh year of Hijra in the afternoon. He had lived 63 years less eight days.

The Sunni historians say that the Prophet died, not on the first but on the 12th day of Rabi al-Awwal. The Shia Muslims say that he died, not on the first of Rabi al-Awwal but a day earlier, i.e., on the 28th of Safar.

The consensus of the modern, Western historians, is, that the Prophet died on June 8, 632. The eighth of June, incidentally, is also the day of his birth.

Burial of the Prophet

The body of the Prophet of Islam was washed on Tuesday. Only six men were present at his funeral service. They were:

Ali ibn Abi Talib

Abbas ibn Abdul Muttalib

Fadhl ibn Abbas

Qathm ibn Abbas

Usama bin Zayd bin Haritha

Aus bin Khuli Ansari

Usama, the general of the expedition to Syria, was in Jorf, still waiting for the companions. Some of them sent word to him that the Prophet was dying, and that he should return to Medina. He returned, and moments later, his master died.

Ali washed the body of the Prophet as Usama poured water. When the body was washed, Ali draped it in a shroud, and prayed for it. He then went out, and told the Muslims who were in the mosque, to go into the chamber and say the funeral prayers. Banu Hashim were the first to offer prayers, and then the Muhajireen and the Ansar carried out this duty.

In Medina, there were two gravediggers. They were Abu Obaida bin al-Jarrah and Abu Talha Zayd bin Sahl. They were summoned but only the latter was available. He came and dug the grave. Ali entered the grave to smooth it out. He then lifted the body from the ground, and gently lowered it into the grave, assisted by his uncle and his cousins. The grave was then covered with earth, and Ali sprinkled water over it.

When Ali and other members of Banu Hashim were busy with the obsequies of the Prophet of Islam, Abu Bakr, Umar, Abu Obaida bin al-Jarrah, and some others were busy in Saqifa staking claims to the caliphate. Abu Bakr, it turned out, was the successful candidate. When he had obtained the pledge of allegiance from the Ansar in Saqifa, he and his friends returned to the Mosque of the Prophet. He then ascended the pulpit of the Prophet to take the same pledge from other people.

On Monday evening and all day on Tuesday, the people were coming to the mosque to take the oath of allegiance to him. Oath-taking was over late on Tuesday night, and it was only on Wednesday that the newly-elected khalifa found some time to turn his attention to his dead master, and to offer the funeral prayer at his grave.

Muhammad, the Messenger of God, the Sovereign of all Muslims, and the greatest Benefactor of Mankind, did not have a state funeral. A handful of men – his close relatives –had given him burial. Many of those who claimed that they were his companions and friends, had forsaken him in the hour of his death. Their absence from his funeral was the most important nonevent of his obsequies.

Ibn Saad says in his Tabqaat that Ali ibn Abi Talib paid all the debts of Muhammad, the Prophet of Islam. He sent a crier around town in Medina, and during the Hajj season, he sent a crier to Makka, to declare that he (Ali) would pay all the debts of Muhammad, and that whoever had any claim, could come to him and collect it. He paid the claimants without asking them any questions and without seeking any proof that Muhammad owed them anything, and this he was doing to the end of his days.

Maybe we know history differently..how many wars took place during their caliphates from infighting? Need I remind you of during Ali's caliphate specifically, most of the time was spent defending against wars started by prominent "companions".

If Ali [AS] believed that swearing allegiance to triple caliphs is the reason of their legitimacy, so why didn’t he swear an allegiance to them?

This fact that Ali [AS] didn’t swear an allegiance to them is obvious, even this fact has been admitted in Sunni books.

“Muhammad ibn Ismail” writes:

Fatimah [AS] lived six months after prophet’s [(صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)] death, when she died, her husband buried her at night without informing “Abu Bakr” and himself said prayer for her, as long as Fatimah [AS] was alive, Ali [AS] was respectable amongst people but when she passed away, people turned their back  on him then Ali [AS] swore allegiance to “Abu Bakr”, during six months that Fatimah [AS] was alive, Ali [AS] didn’t swear “Abu Bakr”  allegiance.

Shahi Bukhari, v 5, p 82\

And Ali [AS] didn’t swear allegiance willingly, they forced him to do so, as Ali [AS] says in “Nahj Al balaqah”, letter 28:

إنّي كنت أقاد كما يقاد الجمل المخشوش حتي أبايع .

They dragged me to the mosque, the same way that camel is controlled and deprive it from any will and move.

And when Ali [AS] went to the mosque, they told him to swear an allegiance to “Abu Bakr”, he said what if I don’t? They said: swear to god we’ll behead you, Ali [AS] said: if you do so, you’ve killed god’s servant and prophet’s brother, then “Abu bakr” said nothing:

فقالوا له : بايع . فقال : إن أنا لم أفعل فمه ؟ ! قالوا : إذا والله الذي لا إله إلا هو نضرب عنقك ! قال : إذا تقتلون عبد الله وأخا رسوله . وأبو بكر ساكت لا يتكلم .

Al Emamat and policy, searched by: Al shiri, 31, chapter: the method of Ali’s [AS] allegiance

It’s written in the book “the proof of successor”: they dragged Ali [AS] to “Abu Bakr” and said: you should swear an allegiance. His fist was clinched they tried to open it to put in “Abubakar’s hand but they couldn’t, “Abu Bakr” went to him and dragged his hand on Ali’s hand as allegiance.

Salam,

If it is based on the logic of the above hadith from Sahih Bukhari, and Fatema (عليه السلام) was not hit by the door and alive,  Imam Ali (عليه السلام) will never give allegiance and people will be with Imam (عليه السلام) until Abu Bakr death.  The selection of Umar might not be easy.i

There must be reasons, certain people wanted Fatema (عليه السلام)  to be dead by  threatening to burn her house or other means.

We witnessed what happened to Fatema (عليه السلام) eventually.

Wallahualam.

Salaam brother maybe I am misunderstanding you, but i dont think you can rule out that event by the hadith above, in fact I would say that is the opposite case... these hadiths are proving it was not allegiance far from it! In their own books..
