Continuous prayers to our brethren suffering through these times. The images and videos are genuinely heart-wrenching.

I had never come across "critical planet geometry" until I came across this gentleman on twitter. He apparently gained over 800k followers over 24h from his relatively accurate prediction. For muslims, this should be relevant because it brings up something I think may be islamically important - astrology.
Of course, from this gentleman's perspective, there are theories that gravitational or electromagnetic forces may be responsible for earthquakes on Earth based off the spacial orientation of other planets in our solar system, thus potentially (classical) scientific based predictions - that's fine.

But what I was wondering, is this just simply coincidental and not a legitimate concept, and he is unknowingly practicing astrology, in which case his predictions should be completely ignored?

Anyone have an understanding of what 'critical planet geometry' really is? Explanations that I've come across are vague.

I just heard there are 7,700 deaths. Innaa lillahi Wa Innaa Ilayhi Raaji'oon. "Indeed to Allah we belong, and to Him we return." [Holy Qur'an 2:156] (Fatiha)

I've checked the links and this is a legitimate charity. Also their UK postal address is the same as the Muhammadi Trust, which those of you who live in London will be familiar with.

Anyone who would want to argue such a thing, that differences in planet and star positions and such would have a significant impact within the earth has a responsibility to show concretely with math and proven physics how that would work.

What is a known fact is that the other planets, particularly the big ones, especially Jupiter and to a smaller extent, Saturn, have a perturbing effect on the orbits of smaller planets. And that effect varies over the orbit of the smaller planet and of Jupiter, whether it’s farther away or closer.

But that’s an effect on the entire earth’s overall direction of movement and speed. How that would affect different parts of the earth in different ways to affect tectonics seems pretty dubious. The width of the earth (12800km) is a rounding error in comparison to the average distance to Jupiter ~700 million km.

This highlights an important point. When some rando on YouTube claims to have predicted something correctly and pats himself on the back about it, you need to be skeptical and look at the data they aren’t highlighting. Did the person make 27 other predictions that were wrong that he doesn’t talk much about or pretends never happened? This is common behavior among these sorts of people.

Makes sense, I suppose this is why I haven't come across any actual explanations besides buzzwords. But...

Would this mean that while it's not yet proven, it has yet to be disproven? Does Jupiter also affect climate, by extension, on Earth for instance? Why shouldn't changes in movement and speed also lead to tectonic shifts through inertia? This is all new to me so excuse my simplistic questions.

Tbh overall still sounds like astrology to me more than anything, i.e. lucky guess. But I'd rather not exclude a possibility of interplanetary effects if it's not yet something disproven.

Media crackdown in Turkey

Quote

Turkish police have detained 31 people, nine of whom were remanded to custody, for “sharing provocative posts that aimed to frighten and panic citizens on social media platforms”, according to a statement from the national police agency posted on Twitter. Turkey warned Twitter on Wednesday it was responsible for curbing disinformation on its platform. Access to the social media website was blocked for several hours on Wednesday.
