Is this hadith Authentic?

Jami at Tirmidhi 3686

Narrated 'Uqbah bin 'Amir: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: If there was to have a Prophet after me, it would have been 'Umar bin Al-Khattab.

:salam:

No, it's not authentic.

According to the Ahlul-Sunnah, its grade is hasan - "good". They claim the hadeeth is true.

However, Imam al-Jawad (عليه السلام) has already disproven this concept in a debate with Yahya Ibn Aktham. Here's a relevant extract of the hadeeth:

Quote

YAHYA SAID: It has been narrated that the Prophet of God had once said – Had I not been a prophet, Umar would have certainly have been a prophet.

HE [IMAM AL-JAWAD] (عليه السلام) SAID: The Quran is more accurate and reliable compared to this tradition on the matter of prophethood:

"[Recall] when We took a pledge from the prophets, and from you and from Noah and Abraham and Moses and Jesus son of Mary, and We took from them a solemn pledge" [Surah al-Ahzab 33:7]

The verse clearly proves that Allah had made a covenant and took allegiance from all prophets, therefore in this case how is it possible that the Lord changes the allegiance that He Himself has taken? None of the messengers were ever guilty of apostasy (based on the divine covenant), so how is it possible that Allah grants prophethood to someone who spent a major part of his life worshipping idols?

Moreover, the Prophet ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم).a.) informed – I was a prophet even at the time Adam’s creation was suspended between water and clay.

(Source: Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 50, P. 80)

May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) guide us all.

If prophet would have said that it would have been like saying about his successor while we know that Prophet (PBUHHP) called Imam Ali as his successor in the beginning of spreading message of Islam and it's also known that it was Imam Ali (عليه السلام) who had possession of all the belongings of prophet after his passing away and it was Imam Ali (عليه السلام) who was asked by prophet to pay his debts. This Hadith is in contradiction to such known fact and therefore it is untrue even if it be graded as Hasan.
