Hi, Can I have some recommended Dua and Surahs that I can recite to help me maintain my spirituallity

As I am struggling with my depression due to what's happening in my family, It affected me spiritually as I feel unmotivated and not strong enough to maintain my prayers properly. It hurts me and frustrates me.

I'm going to gym, reading novels and playing PS5 (lol finally managed to get one). I do these to keep me distracted but not working. I may have to seek professional help as things get bottled up inside of me and not having someone to talk that may hear me and say some advice to me.

A review of dua of Arafah by Imam Hussein (عليه السلام)

First lines of the dua offer description of God Almighty as we read: “Praise be to Allah Whose determination cannot be repelled by anything, whose gifts cannot be stopped by anything.”

The grandson of Prophet Muhammad ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) notes that Merciful God is aware of all issues. “You had begun bestowing on me before I was anything worth mentioning,” he says and points to the gifts God has bestowed to man since the start of creation. Thinking about these extensive gifts bears great importance.

In the second part of this dua, Imam Hussein (عليه السلام) says: “O Allah, (please) make me fear You as if I can see You.” He then humble himself before God: “It is You Who conferred favors (upon me). It is You Who did good (to me). It is You Who treated (me) excellently. It is You Who favored (me). … So, all praise be to You permanently, and all thanks be to You enduringly and eternally. However, it is I, O my God, who confess of my sins; so, (please) forgive them to me. It is I who did badly. It is I who did wrong. It is I who had evil intention.”

These lines show the immense capacity of a man who knows Allah well. He has achieved internal power. This is where the dua comes to its end with Imam Hussein (عليه السلام) saying “O my Lord! O my Lord! O my Lord…” with eyes full of tears.

Can you please introduce some methods in which we can improve and optimize our memory according to the traditions (Ahadith)?
Concise answer
We can classify those effective methods of enhancing and optimizing memory and comprehension into some divisions which are as follows:
A) Spiritual methods:
1. Remembering Allah (by worshiping Him and doing the canonical duties especially praying on time)
2. Reciting those duas which are effective for enhancing and optimizing memory such as the Holy prophet (P.B.U.H) taught Imam Ali ((عليه السلام)). In which He recommended Imam Ali ((عليه السلام)) to say:
«سبحان من لایعتدى على اهل مملکته، سبحان من لایأخذ اهل الارض بالوان العذاب، سبحان الرؤوف الرحیم، اللهم اجعل لى فى قلبى نورا و بصرا و فهما و علما انک على کل شى‏ء قدیر»[i]
3. Reciting the verses of the Holy Quran especially Ayatul Kursi.

4. Avoidance of those things which cause forgetfulness like sin.
5. Attenuating anxiety and finding tranquility especially when you are studying.
6. Reducing those things which our memory become obsessed with.
7. Improving our concentration and attention.
B) Observing material things.
1. Providing natural and Physiological necessities like proper nutrition, sport and sanitation.
2. Brushing teeth.
3. Using more articles of food which contains glucose like date, honey, natural sweets; also using those foodstuffs which contain calcium, phosphor and vitamins like milk products, fish oil, orange, tomato, bran, fresh vegetables, carrot and liver.
4. Practicing and repeating those topics we learned.

Superior prayer for peace of mind

Imam Sadiq ((عليه السلام).) has said in a narration that I wonder how a person who is afraid of 4 things does not take refuge in 4 words!

  1. A person who has been overcame by fear takes refugee to  :  " حسبنا الله و نعم الوکیل" ‘Allah is sufficient for us, and He is an excellent trustee.’ https://tanzil.net/#trans/en.qarai/3:173
  2. Sad people to mention : " لا اله انت سبحانک انی کنت من الظالمین " ‘There is no god except You! You are immaculate! I have indeed been among the wrongdoers!’  https://tanzil.net/#trans/en.qarai/21:87
  3. People who have been tricked: " افوض امری الی الله ، ان الله بصیر بالعباد" I entrust my affair to Allah. Indeed Allah watches His servants.’https://tanzil.net/#trans/en.qarai/40:44
  4. For those who want the world and the beauties of the world, it is better to mention: " ماشاءالله لاحول و لاقوه الا بالله"  ‘‘[This is] as Allah has willed! There is no power except by Allah!’’

Quranic surahs to achieve peace

Allameh Tabatabai, the author of Tafsir al-Mizan, said: To achieve peace, while sitting or standing, place your hand on your chest and recite verse 28 of Surah Ra'ad several times:الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَطْمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُم بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ ۗ أَلَا بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ  those who have faith and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah.’ Behold! The hearts find rest in Allah’s remembrance!

https://tanzil.net/#trans/en.qarai/13:28

the most common prayer for peace is:

"ماشاءَ الله لا حَولَ وَ لا قوّهَ اِلّا باللهِ العَلِیَّ العظیم"

If With an honest and heartfelt intention, you say this remembrance, you will see a great effect on your peace of mind.
