When or if Shia islam will spread in the west like Sunni or Salafi, i know in the west and muslim world, most of shia converts are from sunni, when will it appeal to non muslims like Sunni or Salafi? I know they get help from dawah ad media coverage and more  money spent on literature like books, pamplets, internet media, ect. But When will Shias  have this oppretunity,i know Saudi and other countries outspend and outreach more then shias, even the western entertertainment puts sunni  out like movies and television shows like erturl and djjn and others and movies about ottomans. When will it be Shias time to Shine, anybody?

Salam i  have a little hope for this because if  Shias will be united so then we  can support it financialy but  on the other hand current traditional platforms likewise Netflix won't accept to broadcast Shia movies & television shows because policy of  these platforms has been based on spreading distorted Image of Islam not truth about it which maybe these paltform only will show distorted Image of Shia Islam  likewise Tatbir & etc  which it needs founding something in similar fashion of Netflix or more poweful than it by Shia MUslims.

So when I read the title of the question, I thought it was asking how can Shias lead in making Islam more appealing to Western and American people in general so that Islam captures a bigger piece of the overall religious identity pie.

But it looks like it’s much smaller ambition, just wondering how we can have a larger piece of the 1-2% Muslim slice. For that, I don’t know. More of the good experiments I guess? Centers that are open more often and that operate mostly in English or whatever the language of the local people. Additional accessible local language content up on the internet. A focus on topics that are relevant to the younger generations which are most closely is connected to the local people. Just more more more.

As for the question I thought you were asking, how does Islam become more broadly appealing to Americans? Like 10%, 20%, 30%, and so on? Answer, I don’t see that happening in the current legalistic form of Islam. The heart, the core of ideas is simple, sound, and beautiful. But the law system that appears when you get beyond that requires a sweeping overhaul to dig down to deeper universal bedrock principles and then apply those to the current context to actually be universally relevant to people. Women’s issues being a huge part of that. Life has changed a lot. Fiqh hasn’t kept up.

Now this is the point in the script when the usual suspects people predictably deliberately understand this to mean, “Oh, you want to change the religion to align with people’s whims, etc…” No.

But we’re claiming Islam is a universal religion for all times. But a lot of what we think of as shariah is not resonating with the people. There are a lot of unappetizing details, and overall it’s wrapped up in an air of arcane obsession with minutiae over the big picture. Now you can interpret that reaction of modern people in one of two ways.

You can cynically say, oh, it’s the people who are the problem. These moderners are just fundamentally depraved.

Or, or you recognize, hey, these people are good people, overall, their hangup isn’t necessarily the idea of God, or justice, or prophethood, or moral behavior, or prayer, or charity, or accountability for our actions. Maybe we’re just out of touch with the details of what a life lived in the spirit of Islam means in the 21st century.

This is an interesting observation and perhaps it answers part of the question.

If the main focus and ambition is to spread Islam in a more general manner, based on the fundamental concept of tawheed and our fundamental text,  the Qur'an,  then the rest will follow.

The participation of the Shia community in the West in terms of da'wah to the public is quite limited.

Western Shi'i communities should be establishing more masajid and should be focusing on social challenges (poverty, substance abuse,  mental health) rather rather limiting themselves to commemorations and dua sessions.

At the moment the Shia communities in the West don't offer much to the average person who doesn't already fit their mold, and even within the mold the overall attitude is too passive apart from some exceptions.

The Shias have been shining ever since they started to follow the Ahlul Bayt. Our numbers were low back then (hence being a minority), and our numbers will continue to remain low.

If we were a minority when the Ahlul Bayt were alive and teaching, why do you expect for our numbers to jump when our Imam is in an occult state?

What is more valuable? A type of rare gem or a type of rock that is abundant everywhere?
