Assalam Alikum

Let me do the honors of opening this thread.

Before revealing who I'll be rooting for, which countries are you supporting and who do you want to see win the World Cup?

Feel free to share any news of this world event.

And can the mods by chance add emoticons of the flags above?  Insh'Allah that would be a wonderful gesture.

Thank you so much.

It's the Arab blood in you brother!

Football can't be separated from politics.

But you have a point because in July 2006 the Zionists launched a war with Lebanon and the WC was taking place.

For me personally, I think Argentina or Belgium would take the win ( probably rooting more for Argentina). Both teams have a really good squad this year and their recent performances are pretty good.

But this year it would be even more ironic with Arabs hosting the ceremony.

During the last World cup held in Russia, I took the opportunity Russia offered to all nationalities by purchasing a cheapest ticket of the most useless match, which made me eligible to apply for the so-called FAN ID issued by the government of Russia.

Anyone with a single valid ticket could obtain FAN ID and use it to enter the Russian Federation without obtaining a prior visa.

This was of huge significance to me because as a citizen of a country with the second worst passport in the world (according to Henley's Passport Index), I saved a lot of money and avoided the red tape around obtaining a Russian visit visa just by making a small purchase online.

I'm one of those people who have zero interest in football. Zero. I didn't go to the stadium to watch the match. I just followed a tourist itinerary and covered the must-see places during the two weeks I was there. And I loved every bit of it. Remarkable country. Remarkable people.

Thank you Russia.

Now the WC is being held in Qatar of all places. And I can't seem to control my yawning.

An opportunity to visit a proper country has been missed.

Plus, the costs of visiting Qatar this time round is going to be very high.

Airfares are already touching the exorbitant range and on top of that all hotels in Qatar are already showing hundreds of USDs a night hotel stay during the WC dates. The rates aren't just high or very high. They are ridiculous.

I managed to find cheap accommodations in Russia in 2018 by staying a few metro stations away from the city centres. But there isn't anything resembling a cheap accommodation anywhere in the non-sandy square footage in the entire state of Qatar.

Qatar has copied the Russian FAN ID system and named it Hayya card. One of the requirements of Hayya is to have a confirmed, possibly paid, hotel booking for the dates for which the applicants holds the match ticket. Russians did not ask for these things for their FAN IDs.

One attraction of Hayya card is that several neighbouring states have said that they would allow visa free entry to on the basis of Hayya card. These countries include Saudi Arabia, Oman, UAE, Jordan and possibly Kuwait.

Some of my compatriots are excited about this opportunity to visit various countries without having to go through the hassle of applying for and obtaining the visas, like they did in the case of Russia. I reminded them that this time our hosts are Arabs not the Russians who let in everyone without discrimination.

I am looking forward to a caveat which might not even be announced but quietly put into practice:

"ALL nationalities allowed except XYZ countries."

We Pakis have always belonged to the XYZ category.

So when my friends buzzed me about purchasing a ticket and going on a grand Middle East tour I said NO.

a country with the second worst passport in the world

I noticed that road signs near Mashhad pointed to the Turkmenistan border at Sarakhs so I had the idea of doing a road trip from northern Iran to Uzbekistan via Merv in Turkmenistan. At the time the wife had a Pakistani passport and she was refused a Turkmen visa, so we had to go back to Tehran from Mashhad and get a flight to Tashkent.

I hear though that Azerbaijan allows Pakistanis visas on arrival. Baku is worth a visit I think.

Yes, I have made use of this facility and visited Azerbaijan a year before the covid breakout. Baku is a nice city to explore for 3/4 days maximum. The government has poured a lot of money into refurbishing the old city and other sites of historical significance. Visiting some places it felt like they trying very hard to reinvent their Zoroastrian heritage. They rebuilt a Zoroastrian temple outside Baku on the nearly vanished ruins of an old one that had stood there eons ago. Plus the design of the Flame towers in downtown Baku isn't purely aesthetical. The development is pretty uneven and outside of a couple of big cities it felt like a wasteland with a lot of poverty, in spite of oil and gas revenues. I digress.

One way to make a Pakistani passport relatively stronger is to obtain long term visas of countries like the US, UK, Schengen states etc. A lot of countries let us visit them without visa if we have one of the valid visas listed above. Some that still require it make it quite easy to obtain one. Eg; Turkey is pretty documentation heavy and often refused (as the country falls on the illegal migration route and many Pakistanis use it). But armed with any Western country visa, we can just purchase a Turkish e-visa and fly in without issue. There are several other examples.

As for Turkmenistan, it has the toughest visa in the entire -stans cluster. Even citizens of developed countries need one before departure and it isn't a piece of cake. I doubt they would have let you in on a Brit passport without a pre-arranged visa.

There is a heavy propaganda which Iranian fans have celebrated victory with an Israeli reporter which zionist sites have spread misinformation about it which in released video the Israeli reporter has not mentioned that he is from  Israel which Iranian fans have celebrated Iran's victory with everyone who has been aroud stadium without asking their nationality which Isarel propganda has tried to show it as cooperation & friendship between Israel & Iranians .

Queiroz tells Klinsmann to resign and visit Iran camp after BBC comments

  • German said fouls and confronting officials was ‘in their culture’
  • Queiroz demands that former striker resigns from Fifa role

After Friday’s 2-0 win over Wales, the BBC presenter Gabby Logan talked about Iran’s “gamesmanship” and said they just stayed on the right side of the law before handing over to Klinsmann. “Yes, that’s their culture,” he said. “Their way of doing it, and that is why Carlos Queiroz fits really well [with] the Iranian national team.”

Quote

The former Germany international added: “[Queiroz] struggled in South America, he failed to qualify with Colombia and then he failed with Egypt to qualify and then he went back and guided Iran, who he worked already with for a long, long time. So this is not by coincidence, this is done on purpose.

“This is just part of their culture and how they play, then they work the referee, you saw the bench always jumping up, working the fourth official and the linesman, constantly in their ears, constantly in your face. Kieffer Moore will probably tell you more after the game about little incidents that we didn’t see.”

On Saturday evening Queiroz was moved to respond to Klinsmann in a series of tweets in which it was clear the Iran manager was furious. “No matter how much I can respect what you did inside the pitch, those remarks about Iran Culture, Iran National Team and my Players are a disgrace to football,” he said.

Quote

“Nobody can hurt our integrity if it is not at our level, of course. Even saying so, we would like to invite you as our guest, to come to our national team camp, socialise with Iran players and learn from them about the country, the people of Iran, the poets and art, the algebra, all the millennial Persian culture. And also listen from our players how much they love and respect football.”

“As [an] American/German, we understand you’re no supporter. No problem. And despite your outrageous remarks on BBC trying to undermine our efforts, sacrifices and skills, we promise you that we will not produce any judgments regarding your culture, roots and background and that you will always be welcome to our family.”

Queiroz then called into question Klinsmann’s official role with Fifa. “At the same time, we just want to follow with full attention what will be the decision of Fifa regarding your position as a member of Qatar 2022 Technical Study Group. Because, obviously, we expect you to resign before you visit our camp.”

Iran’s players have faced huge pressure because of political unrest at home and face the USA in their final group game on Tuesday knowing a win will ensure qualification to the World Cup knockout stage for the first time in their history.

According to Shomanews: Carlos Queiroz, head coach of the Iranian national team, is so fond of the color of our country's flag that even his watch is the color of the tricolor flag of Iran. He believes that this color always brings him good luck.

Carlos Queiroz (Keyrosh), who went to the live program of sports from "Nagah Do", presented these interesting explanations about the watch that was worn with the color of the Iranian flag.
