Salam MSN is not a reliable source also DW always  has shown anti Islam policy based on wrong interpretation from Islam so therefore their news are not reliable.

This was really sad to read, as if being a woman is a crime. :(

This is based on their wrong culture .

Haven’t read the article but to answer the question: the culture sucks like hell

Although their culture is wrong anyway article is based on anti Islamic policy & wrong interpretation of DW which has mixed with western feminism under guise of social activism for destroying whole of muslim culture whether good or bad.

It's not entirely unreliable. I have a Pakistani friend and he told me of these things happening

Divorce is happening all over the world. In the place where I live, the percentage of divorce is higher than the percentage of marriage.

Divorce is becoming more prevalent in almost every country on earth, not just Pakistan. Why divorce is becoming more common, IMHO, has nothing to do with Pakistani culture. There are several reason for it, and this deserves it's own thread.

Last I heard,  divorce is still common in the US but is declining.

I guess Pakistan will go through the same pattern, and everywhere else too.
"Unlike in the West, where people usually have live-in relationships before they get married, here you don't," he told DW.
This is flawed reasoning.  Statistically,  couples who cohabitate are more likely to divorce.

Ok, So generally I don't comment on posts but here I want to share what REALLY is going on in pakistan. Because i am a living here.

So first of all that BLIND ARRANGED MARRIAGE happens mostly in rural areas due to illiteracy in both religious and material world. So they don't care about someone's  wishes or choices they are forced to marry. But guess what, this high percent if khula and divorce does not come from that part. It comes from well educated families. And following are the reasons

1. Girl is not educated enough, may be 10th grade to 14th grade and parents force them to marry someone (now you can imagine a doctor or a well educated person will not marry that girl unless its her choice i.e love marriage)

2. Girl is educated but rejected so many men because they don't match her mentality ( i.e job, separat house, education)

3. Girls living in Utopia. Children born here have different culture preferences.  We have people adopting western culture, they are more likely to remember who is the 25th president of USA but they don't know who is our first president. Then there are people who are inspired by indian or pakistani drama/series stories and they try to make their real life a drama and live accordingly.

Then comes lower class people, they don't seek their RIGHTS they just want to survive.

Now you will say why he is only targeting Women??

1) article is in favor of women only.

2) you won't see men crying for their right. Because they are always wrong (in the eyes of THOSE women)

3) I am a married man with children. I have been through rough times, and i have seen people going through these rough times.

Pakistan is really bad for women, like you barely see women on the streets compared to how many women feel safe in countries like Iran or Turkey. It's not the best culture to be a woman.

On the flipside, lots of privileged South Asian girls raised in the west also tend to be the most feministic (despite not living with the trials of the east), and are definitely more neurotic and self-victimizing. This despite that many grow up in nice environments and are often spoiled by parents more than the sons.

Desis (Indian, Pakistanis, Bengalis) live in one extreme or the other.
