i heard that people cannot own more than 15% of Twitter. I thought that was how much Elon Musk owned. Maybe he did make a bigger deal. Billionaires can usually get what they want by hook or by crook.

I believe he submitted an offer to take the company private, totaled at ~$44 billion. The offer has been accepted by the Twitter board, but the purchase hasn't been finalized, probably won't be for a while.

Is he assuring that free speech will be maintained on Twitter or is he only going to allow tweets that don't personally hurt his own businesses?

"Free Speech" is a matter of interpretation.  

Mr.  Musk offered to pay for the water system repairs needed in Flint, but instead he bought a few household purifier units and did nothing for the infrastructure in need of repairs or replacement.  I wouldn't trust anything that apartheid funded would-be oligarch says.

The world will move on, same as when any other gathering place is shut down.  

It's a shame though.  Twitter is my carefully cultivated social media bubble.  If not for one person I know IRL following me there, I could be my completely uncensored self.  It's the closest I get.

What freedom of speech is he talking about? Twitter always gave people freedom of speech. When some people where posting on fb and Instagram about what Israelis are doing to Palestinians, their post was either removed or shadowban, or else they got banned permanently. But Twitter did not do that, they gave us the right to post.

FYI, Elon Musk has bought the whole of Twitter. Twitter will be entirely his own private company. I do hope he follows through on his promise of open source algorithms and ensuring free speech.

In recent years, Twitter has become like China where they censor people for daring to have different opinions than the narrative. Twitter banned people like Dr. Robert Malone and the Babylon Bee for daring to speak out. I'm not gonna draw any conclusions yet, but I do hope Elon follows through with his promise of ensuring free speech. It certainly can't get any worse than it is right now

Why is 44 billion dollars even a real amount? What even does that number mean? It's larger than a human mind can comprehend, abstract.

He claims to be a free speech absolutist, not sure how this will play out.

Additionally, as @Dubilex pointed out, some of the censoring has been quite questionable.

I have seen an Iranian analyzer of situations  in America in IRINN has said it's an investment  by Elon Musk for becoming  next president  of America which in similar fashion has stated his own social  media platform in name of "Trust" as rival of Twitter & Facebook which because  of number of users of Twitter & experiment  of it's admin about all aspects of politics  & social issue therefor  Elon Musk will have more chance than Trump.

He can't.  

The US constitution requires that president and vice president are native born. He most certainly could buy an election, be the sole corporate sponsor of a politician, but he can't be president himself without first throwing out the system.

Twitter is not that hot. Recently I noticed that when I was looking at someone else's Twitter feed, after about five of his tweets there would suddenly be a "Promoted Tweet" which is just an image or advertisement and if you click on it you will be on that company's website.

IIRC, I think he wants to make it more like the Chinese WeChat app which has a lot of different functions. People would associate Twitter with purely social network functions.

Twitter is not what it used to be. I heard in the news that you need to go to your account settings to block media that may contain sensitive content on Twitter. Yes, it has been reported that people are posting porn on Twitter now. Twitter is calling porn "sensitive content".

To block porn on Twitter:

Log in to your Twitter account

Click your profile icon in the top left corner

Select Settings and Support from the drop-down menu

Select Privacy and safety

Scroll down to Content you see in the Safety section

Uncheck the box next to Display media that may contain sensitive content
