Salaamun aleikum brothers and sisters,

Does anyone happen to know the answer to this question? I have forgotten:/

Is it true we can take a day trip while fasting as long as its after dhuur prayer and we return home the same night?

For many years when I first reverted, i lived 45 miles away from the masjid i attend. I was told its ok to travel that distance to the masjid in order to attend magrib/issha salaat as well as iftar as long as i do it AFTER dhuur salaat... Now i seem to have forgotten the details of that.

My husband would like to travel for a day trip during the month of Ramadhan on his days off to a location 75 miles away. Is it permissable to travel there after dhuur while keeping the fast and breaking it at iftar/magrib time at that location?

This is confusing me cuz at some point, the whole "you have to break your fast once 8 farsakh is reached" keeps playing in the back of my head, so now im confused:cry:

Thanks to everyone who helps!

Salam Sister, I found these rulings according to Ayatullah Sistani

Ruling 1690. If a fasting person travels after ẓuhr, he must, based on obligatory precaution, complete his fast; and in such a case, it is not necessary for him to make up that fast. If he travels before ẓuhr, then based on obligatory precaution he cannot fast on that day, particularly if he had made the intention to travel the night before. In any case, he must not do anything that invalidates a fast before reaching the permitted limit (ḥadd al-tarakhkhuṣ),(4) otherwise kaffārah becomes obligatory on him.

Ruling 1691. If a traveller in the month of Ramadan – whether he travelled before sunrise or he was fasting and then travelled – reaches his home town (waṭan)(5) or a place where he intends to stay for ten days before ẓuhr, in the event that he did not do anything that invalidates a fast before reaching that place, he must, based on obligatory precaution, fast on that day and it is not obligatory on him to make it up. And if he did something that invalidates a fast before reaching that place, the fast of that day is not obligatory on him and he must make it up.

Salam,

Here's a Sheikh pretty much repeating what sister @Ain-Al Hayat said, just for more understanding:

Along with leaving after zuhr, the distance has to include "uninhabited" land meaning if you simply go through a bunch of inter-connected cities, then it is not "qasr".

Thanks for the  additional point brother @ShiaMan14.

Yes, we will be traveling from the city, through the country, through a small town, then through ranch land and rural areas, then arrive at the destination location/city.

I saw these rulings from sayed Kamal al-Haydari, they are a bit different from sayed Sistani's.

:salam:

Surprising rulings. I find them convenient for not having to break a fast for an insignificant travel (the 1/2h ride to your grandparents), but I kind of like my 2 rak`ats. :verryhappy:
