R.I.P. Placid

[Son of Placid]

For those who remember Placid. He passed away Feb 28th at 90 3/4 years old.

He was 20 years a small town Blacksmith , 27 years operations manager in a rescue mission, drugs and alcoholism, 25 years retired. His income never reached poverty level, yet he gave his tithe, and able to give much beyond that to people and organizations in need.
He studied the word of God every day since I can remember. He also ministered in some way every day since I can remember. Quite often it was just me, and it was a lecture.
His years as a blacksmith, was before masks became a thing and caught up with him in his 60's and became progressively worse. Dec 23rd he was hospitalized for 32 days, out for two weeks, back in last Thursday, died at 3:10pm Monday in his sleep. 
His years on Shiachat were influential. He looked for unity rather than division and found it. He loved you all.

He is my Father. He was on here for about 12 years, moved on 4-5 years ago to teach Christians that Muslims aren't so bad and aren't so wrong.

May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) give Him mercy and join him in paradise with the Prophets (عليه السلام) and the believers. I remember him wery well in the past years discussion about the Qur'an and Christianity, always respecting and respected and never he got angry over the discussions. He must have much patience. My condolence to you and your family. And Insa'Allah one day we can all meet in better place.

His life brings to mind the poem by Hopkins "Felix the Farrier" (blacksmith) --both in terms of his vocation, but also the spiritual quality

Sickness broke him. Impatient, he cursed at first, but mended

This seeing the sick endears them to us, us too it endears.

Im so saddened by this news and for the loss you, your family, friends and all who interacted with such an amazing person are suffering. May God Almighty grant you patience and calm your hearts during this time of grief. When someone of his caliber and with his heart and intention passes from this world, it leaves a void.  It is truly a magnificent loss. The world needs more people like him.

I remember your father from my early days on SC. I originally joined in 2010 but somehow got locked out of and lost my old account. I enjoyed and appreciated reading his posts. I had no idea he was so much more senior than the rest of us. God willing, hes rewarded for the patience he exhibited and for the unity he selflessly worked towards during his life in this world.

As someone else already mentioned here, may we all be joined together someday in a much better place, God willing.

I will remember him in my prayers.

He was a really good person. His achieved a very high level of piety, and had shining akhlaq in every discussion. I was impressed with how knowledgeable he was and how sincere he was. Now he will be compensated for his lifetime of service to God. May Allah grant him a generous reward for his lifetime of service and provide relief to his family.

I'm very sorry to hear about your father's passing. I never had the pleasure of interacting with him personally, though I've read his discussions since I was 13. He was one of the great influences on me to seriously learn academic biblical studies and classical languages to really appreciate the points he was making. Reading your obituary it is obvious he was a faithful, hard-working, generous man of integrity who touched many people. I'm profoundly sorry for your loss and I hope we continue to see you on the forums. Prayers for you and your family during this difficult time.

In some ways he is lucky he crossed that bridge we all fear

he is seeing God in a scale we can’t ie the veils have been lifted as Quran says about what happens when a person passes away 

and from the sounds of it he was a good person godly surely he is receiving his reward

Just back from a road trip for the funeral. 
I stood in front of the congregation, including the elders of the Baptist church and explained why my Father expected to see Muslims in Heaven, as did his mentor, Billy Graham. I mentioned the God Laws of the three major religions were almost identical and how man made god laws keep them apart. I mentioned how his study was on the unity of religions, and quoted some of your replies to this post. It felt good to see their faces gape.

It felt good to hear, "Thanks for clearing that up" from someone who had an aversion to everything.

Many do not know that his membership in that church was revoked because he spoke of his acceptance of other religions. They couldn't help but hear me.

This is very sad news, and I am glad to have stumbled across this while checking what shiachatters are saying about the Ukraine/Russia war. 

In any case, your father is one of the people that I feel very confident about, when it comes to his future destiny with God. He was truly a special person to me, and he opened so many doors of knowledge to me, that are mostly spiritual. And I did not know that he was that much senior to me! 

The main thing that he did to me was connect me to the event of the sermon of the mount. I think it is called Pentecost. It was the first time that I heard of it then, and let me tell you that it hit me very hard, and that I started visualizing it as if I was there. So to me personally I feel that he is a channel of this spiritual event, and was a door to reach me as well. Whatever happened that day changed me on a spiritual level till today. It is hard for me to explain.

He also shocked me in a good way when he started proving to me from the Quran that Jesus is superior to Mohamed (peace be upon them). It really made me smile, and even if I didn't get fully convinced, I saw his points as valid, and mentioned his arguments to many people ever since. Having the title of "Word of God" is something quite powerful. Also having the whole Spirit of God thing going on, with many other arguments, I really LOVED this discussion.

Other than his manners being among the most impeccable on this site, we got into a long discussion on this thread, where my aim was to find parallels between shia Islam in particular with the true spiritual inheritance of Jesus. My goal was to find out who the Imam Ali was of the Christs followers was.

We both took over this topic, and my suspicion was that perhaps James was the equivalent of Imam Ali. Even though I did not find the clear answer yet, the conversation here - during my days as 'Peace Seeker' - is surely among the top conversations that entered my heart. I love your father, and it is my hope that you continue his legacy of unity, spirit of God, and advanced scholarship. If you check this topic from 2012, you mention something about writing a book. 

Your father had a unique style in writing as well, and his holy-book vs. his-own-words ratio is clearly in favor of the bible. Most of his post are scriptures, while he keeps his own opinions to a minimum. That is safer I believe.

Also, if you look at the way him and me spoke to each other, you will find many many times where I openly pray for you and him, from the heart. So I have already done my share of dua for a man who surely deserves it, and now 10 years later, 10 years older, I will make more dua for him - and for you and all his loved ones.

In any case, your father to me is the prototype of a follower of Christ, which makes him to me among the highest creatures that God created. There is no guarantee that I'm right, but hopefully time will tell that I am.

So anyway, dear brother, all the best to you and your lovely father, and anyone among your spiritual circle.

This is my first visit to Shiachat in 13 years, I remember chatting with Placid on different topic such as the Trinity,  may he rest in peace
