True. You see a similar mind game in Iran with the hijab laws for all on one hand, and at the same time the regular broadcasts of women in "questionable" levels of hijab taking part in sports and other activities publicly or on national/state TV and this getting praised as signs of progress. The presidency of Sheikh Khatami brought (what i think is) an irreversible thirst for all these displays of "culture" and "progress" in Iran.

I don't know much about what's going on in Iran, but I definitely think that once something is out of the bag, it's hard to put it back in.  Even among the religious, it starts to eat at you as more and more people engage in haram.  When you become the only person doing good, it makes you feel like you're holding a burden that no one else is helping you with.

That being said, I'm curious what's wrong with women boxing.  I think we should encourage fitness among women, not just men.  The key here, in my opinion, is to encourage halal things in halal ways.  Fitness is halal.  But women swimming in swimsuits around men is maybe not so halal.  So give women their own pools with female lifeguards, and keep men out.  Same thing with gyms.  Women's only gym/hours and allow them to take their hijabs off around just other women.

The more you prevent someone from doing things that are halal, the more likely they will be drawn towards something that is haram.
