NY Times tip for choosing a restaurant

Quote

Look for the most Islamic of Pakistani restaurants. No alcohol means they have to emphasize the quality of the food to win customers.

Or maybe the Occidental civilization needs to appreciate the fact that there can be more to a good dining experience than pouring liquefied rotten, rancid fruit/grain down one's throat.

Well, if rancid drinks suffice for drawing them to restaurants, then that speaks a lot about their culinary culture.

I was listening to lecture at my local center and the speaker said that all mental health problems are result of a person sinning more. A pious person is strong but a person, who commits too many sins, becomes weak and that's why they develop mental health problems. I am shocked that in a community full of educated people and doctors, a speaker can say such things on mimbar. This is why I don't go to masjid anymore. I wish I lived in a state, where there was no Islamic center. Not being able to go because you feel you are no more welcomed is so painful.

That's not shocking to me.  Disappointing, yes, but I'm used to educated people being stupid.

Twitter facing the same problems as Shiachat

Quote

Musk expressed concern that many of the most-followed accounts on Twitter “tweet rarely and post very little content”, asking: “Is Twitter dying? For example, Taylor Swift hasn’t posted anything in 3 months. And Justin Bieber only posted once this entire year.”

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/apr/10/elon-musk-unveils-vision-for-twitter-after-joining-its-board

Obviously we don't have Swift or Bieber as members, but the question about the site 'dying' has been raised often.

Yes, but Elon Musk is an idiot. Worse,  he's probably planning to kill the site because they censured him for something. Rich people do whatever that want.  We should stop having them.

My Twitter is pretty active.  If I follow any famous people, I don't see them much.  I follow mostly scientists, artists, writers, gardeners, environmentalists, and commies.

Salam this totally  similar about fallout of facebook which in loosing battle is trying  to have a controlled  freefall by changing  ti's name to Meta & too much relying  on whatsapp & Instagram & relying on celebrities in Instagram until a new popular platform  kills whatsapp & Instagram nevertheless  I hope so & pray  that Shia chat lasts until reappearance  of Imam  Mahdi(aj):D:discussion:

I have noticed that when I pray for others, my prayers get answered more easily. And whenever I have asked for prayers on shiachat, my problems are solved. Should we make a thread before shab e qadar in which we can assign prayer buddies or something like that. We pray for each other?

Health insurance in the United States is fraud and should be illegal.  Open link at your own risk.  It's Twitter.  Anyone can say anything.

I learnt about the health insurance scam and just how horrible the American health system is from r/antiwork on reddit. In the UK, we have the NHS, and seeing medical bills in America makes you appreciate free healthcare a lot.

This is a very good idea.  Do you want to start it?

Political Islam

The French have issues about the role of religion (specially Islam) in society. Not it seems when it suits them. Iftar dinner for the re-election of Macron.

Islamophobia and anti-semitism

This is an anti-halal meat thread on Twitter, followed by the usual prejudiced comments. Obviously along the way people comment on kosher as well.

So this lady pipes up (see second comment), trying to compare kosher favourably vs. halal. As if somehow the people who criticise halal will somehow give kosher a free pass.

There are some who feel that stirring up Islamophobia in the West is some how helping the Israeli fight against the Pals. Short sighted in my opinion.

I started driving for door dash last weekend. I did it for two days and I really liked it. Most of people were nice and just wanted me to leave stuff at their door. I won't earn a lot probably but I am so sick of corporate culture and dealing with co-workers. I want to leave my job and start door dash full time. As far as learning skills, I am not learning any skills at my corporate jobs either except may be politics and how to deal with toxic people.

Another thought: I think I was attacked by a jin. I felt like I was having heart attack, I went to bathroom to throw up and I probably fainted. I woke up with my face swollen and my tooth is chipped. I am feeling fine, not sick at all that's why I think it was attack by a jin. I was watching in news that Biden shakes hands with some imaginary person. He might be shaking hands with a jin.

No wonder Covid-19 spread so quickly in large cities. Mass transit is a nightmare.

I went for an interview, the managers at the job were one Spanish woman and African America man and there were mostly women there. It looked very clear that this company was mostly democratic. When I read the online reviews, they were "this is the worst job I ever had". "They hire fresh graduates and burn them out, turnover rate is very high, no one stays for even a whole year". I know that they were not just disgruntled employees, I have worked at places like that. I am thinking that democrats talk so much about evil rich people and employers and yet they create such working conditions. Doesn't it go against everything democrats stand for? I am beginning to think if it's true that democrats are just hypocrites.

Go look at my cover photo on my profile.  It's Saturn, our far away sister planet in our solar system.  Look all the way to the right.  See those two tiny dots?  The lower brighter one is Earth. The upper one is our beautiful moon. We are that small, and yet we've gone farther than that. Our machines are beyond Saturn, beyond Jupiter and Neptune, all the way into the oort cloud. We are an amazing creation, aren't we. Some day in the far future, if we survive this phase, we will go even beyond.

I think it was a medical thing rather than a jin. You should get checked up regardless.

Cheeky

I was looking at taking a possible holiday in North Korea and found these guys.

So it seems that the DPRK will be closed for the rest of the year, but this tour operator is cheeky. US$2445 just for the pleasure of making it to the DMZ between north and South Korea?

Highlights include visiting South Korean beaches to check what North Korean trash has washed up.

I kid you not.

A DMZ tour should be a half day tour and get out of there before dark!

NOT a BREAKING NEWS alert, but NBC NEWS said that Bernie Sanders is up to something. :shifty:

Is Bernie back?: As Biden struggles, Sanders leads a field of Democrats jockeying for the 2024 presidential election campaign

More than two years out from the 2024 election, Sen. Bernie Sanders’ campaign fires are simmering. He is having private discussions about the possibility of making a third bid for the White House if President Joe Biden reverses course and chooses not to run. Sanders is the most openly ambitious about another bid, but more than a dozen Democratic insiders said in interviews that an emerging field of Democratic hopefuls are also positioning themselves to run.
