Analysts expect religious polarisation to intensify in the coming months as the BJP prepares for next year’s elections in Uttar Pradesh, India’s largest state and a BJP stronghold. Ali said the prosecution of Muslims had acquired an “organic” momentum, as civil servants tried to please their BJP political bosses in a “competitive radicalisation” of state machinery. “Anti-Muslim actions get you into the favour of the top establishment,” he said.

Hindu extremists take an oath to harm Muslims and India’s leaders keep silent

SHAFAQNA- A call for Muslim genocide in a Hindu religious assembly has triggered outrage in the country with a rights activists demanding action. Right-wing Hindu nationalists have preached violence online for years, but the violence has recently spilled onto the streets. Muslim fruit sellers have been beaten and their earnings snatched away after being accused of luring Hindu women into marriage to convert them. Muslim activists have been threatened with prosecution under an antiterrorism law that has been scrutinized by courts.

Indian Muslim: We are fast losing everything in this country

Quote

In recent months, Hindu nationalists in Gurugram, a major technology center about 15 miles south of New Delhi, have confronted Muslims during Friday Prayer. Bands of right-wing Hindus have interrupted prayers with chants of “Jai Shri Ram!” Meaning “Hail Lord Ram,” a major Hindu god, the chant has become a battle cry for Hindu nationalists , According to Nytimes.

“We are fast losing everything in this country, including the right to worship,” said Niyaz Farooqi, a Muslim who works in an automobile showroom in Gurugram. “A right given to us by the Constitution of this country.”

A call for Muslim genocide in a Hindu religious assembly

Quote

The three-day ‘Dharma Sansad’ was held by the controversial Hindutva figure Yati Narsinghanand from December 17 to 19, where multiple speakers made calls to kill minorities and attack their religious places. Setting a new benchmark for brazen hate speech, leaders of several far-right groups have called for ethnic cleansing of India’s 200 million Muslims, in a three-day summit organised at Haridwar in Uttarakhand , thelogicalindian told.

general secretary of the Hindu Mahasabha [Hindu Grand Assembly], allegedly called for the murder of Muslims.

Quote

“Nothing is possible without weapons. If you want to eliminate their population then kill them. Be ready to kill and be ready to go to jail. Even if 100 of us are ready to kill 20 lakhs of them (Muslims), then we will be victorious, and go to jail,” she was heard saying in the video, UK.news mentioned

“Like [Nathuram] Godse (the man who killed Mahatma Gandhi), I am ready to be maligned, but I will pick up arms to defend my Hindutva from every demon who is a threat to my religion,” she allegedly said.

Modi has maintained a characteristic silence

Quote

The crowded auditorium, where right-wing Hindu monks called for other Hindus to arm themselves and kill Muslims, included influential religious leaders with close ties to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governing party, and even some members of the party.

Videos of the event have spread widely on social media in India this week. Yet Mr. Modi has maintained a characteristic silence that analysts say can be interpreted by his most extreme supporters as a tacit signal of protection.

Quote

Modi is a lifelong member of the hardline Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Hindu nationalist group. He was briefly barred from the United States over religious riots in Gujarat in 2002 when he was state chief minister, France24 told.

Multiple episodes of violence against Muslims during election season

Quote

Mr. Modi was busy campaigning this week in Uttar Pradesh for Yogi Adityanath, his hard-line protégé and the state’s chief minister, who has frequently fanned anti-Muslim hatred. Multiple episodes of violence against Muslims have been reported during election season, including attacks by mobs trying to close businesses owned by Muslims.

Muslims are everywhere in a minority in India

Quote

Muslims form a majority in the state of Kashmir, while elsewhere they are concentrated in particular areas. The largest numbers are to be found in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Kerala. In the north of India most Muslim communities speak Urdu, which is not a recognized official language of India-largely because of the lack of a distinct majority population in a specific area. Apart from Kashmir, Muslims are everywhere in a minority in India.

Yes.

The far right hindutva party RSS dates back to 1925 and has been influenced by nazis. But they are playing the slow game. Filling hatred into the people. These riots are warm up so they can call a big one.

I've heard about not allowing Muslims girls with hijab to attend schools.

It's disturbing that leaders of many Muslims countries are silent when oppression takes against Muslims.

They are following the approach of France. Secularism is invoked- like  France forces muslim women to discard the hijab, or when Muslim shopkeepers are forced to sell pork and alcohol in their stores at the risk of facing closure, political parties there campaign to ban dhibah and halal meat- the aim is to target and harass Muslims.

Attack on mosque

Quote

“A Hindu mob smashed beer bottles inside the mosque, put up saffron flags there and chanted Jai Shri Ram [Hail Lord Ram],” said Tabreez Khan, 39, a witness. “A caretaker of the mosque started resisting them, leading to a brawl. It was only after they started to desecrate the mosque that Muslims got angry and clashes started and stones were thrown.”

It was an account verified by both Muslim and Hindu witnesses. Rinku Sharma, a Hindu taking part in the procession, said the clashes began “when we entered the mosque area”.

Muslim hijabi students leave exam venue after not being allowed entry

Two girls from Karnataka, India, who had submitted a court petition seeking permission to wear Hijab inside classrooms, were refused to take their board examination after they requested to take the exam while wearing burqas.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA), The two youngsters, identified as Aliya Assadi and Resham, tried to convince the invigilators and principal at the Vidyodaya PU College in Udupi for about 45 minutes but failed.

Quote

When many Muslim female students requested the education minister to allow taking exams in hijab, Minister BC Nagesh categorically refused.

"Hijab is important and so is writing and passing the exam. Our future depends on our exam results," a Muslim girl student said.

17-year-old Aliya Assadi is battling against the state's Hijab ban. She renewed her appeal to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai saying that he could stop their future from getting ruined.

"You still have a chance to stop our future from getting ruined. You can make a decision to allow us to write exams while wearing hijab. Please consider this. We are the future of this country," she tweeted.

I predicted this back in 2014 before Modi first came to power. But some Indian Shia friends in here and people sympathetic to the Indian polity claimed faith in the Nehruvian secularism and dismissed my concerns as ravings of a bitter Pakistani.

International protests over BJP members' comments about the Prophet ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم))

Six more countries have joined diplomatic protests across the Muslim worldover derogatory remarks insulting the prophet Muhammad made by spokespeople for the party of Indian prime minister, Narendra Modi.

In response the BJP has expelled the two, partly because:

Uproar in Muslim world after BJP leaders’ derogatory remarks on Prophet

Muslim countries have taken strong exception to derogatory remarks made against Prophet Muhammad ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) by leaders of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with Qatar, Kuwait and Iran summoning India’s envoy to register their protest on Sunday.

India: more countries join Muslim protests over Muhammad remarks

The hashtag “#ShameOnBJP” was trending on Twitter along with expressions of solidarity with the national spokesperson and, in a rare rebuke to Modi, hardliners have suggested that Uttar Pradesh’s firebrand chief minister, Yogi Adityanath, might make a better prime minister.

Disciplinary action against members of BJP fails to quell growing anger in Muslim world over comments insulting the prophet

Indonesia, the UAE, the Maldives, Jordan, Bahrain and Libya have joined Qatar, Kuwait, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Afghanistan in lodging official complaints over comments from representatives of the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata party. Meanwhile hardline party members have reacted angrily to disciplinary action against the pair after their comments went viral in the Middle East.

Modi govt spreading hatred on sensitive religious issues: Sherry

Quote

In a statement, she said, “I condemn the BJP leaders’ shocking and provocative statements about our beloved Prophet ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم))”. She said the BJP leaders (Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal) had hurt the sentiments of the Muslims. “The sentiments of Muslims not only in India but all over the world have been hurt. The world and human rights organizations should take note of this desecration of religious believes,” Sherry Rehman said. She added that the standard of global tolerance could not be different for other countries and for Indian Prime Minister Modi. She underlined that the Indian extremism had become a threat to the world. “It is not enough just to suspend the membership of BJP leaders. The Modi government should formally apologize to all Muslims of the world”, Sherry Rehman demanded. Meanwhile, the PPPKhyber Pakhtunkhwa President Najamuddin Khan expressed his displeasure over the blasphemous statement made by the BJP spokesperson.

Quote

The PPP leader said Narendra Modisometimes openly plays with the religious places and religions of Sikhs, Christians or Muslims. He said that India has erected mountains of oppression in Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir which the soul trembles to remember but the courage of Kashmiris is like sand in the face of these atrocities. He demanded the international community must take strong action against this heinous act and the whole world should boycott India by all means.

What Is Happening In India?

Quote

German poet and playwright Bertolt Brecht writes “The first time it was reported that our friends were being butchered there was a cry of horror. Then a hundred were butchered. But when a thousand were butchered and there was no end to the butchery, a blanket of silence spread.

When evil-doing comes like falling rain, nobody calls out ‘stop!’. But today is the time to put a “Stop” to Indian barbarianism before this evil-doing comes like a falling rain. The so-called secular India, led by the extremist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been targeting the sentiments of Muslims minorities inside India since long but now this secular state with its motives of promoting hate speech, have launched another offensive campaign to target sentiments of Muslims worldwide by targeting personality of Prophet ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)).

The comments by Spokesperson Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal reflect the deeply penetrated religious polarization in the society, which India has been witnessing since years especially after the rise of BJP in 2014. Experts predict that the response by BJP may not be enough because what was being depicted as an India’s internal matter was actually a well-staged drama to hurt Muslims across the world.

.” The Muslim world today is demanding to Boycott Indian products to register their protest. #BoycottIndianProducts #إلا_رسول_الله_يا_مودي , #ShameonModi and #ShameOnBJP have been trending on Twitter since past three days.

Insulting Prophet Muhammad is straight out of the BJP playbook

The anti-Islam insults by high ranking BJP staffers that caused a diplomatic storm are hardly anomalies.

  • Apoorvanand
Apoorvanand teaches Hindi at the University of Delhi. He writes literary and cultural criticism.

In the past few days, India’s governing Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has found itself in the middle of a political and diplomatic storm after two of its high-ranking staffers – the party’s national spokeswoman Nupur Sharma and Delhi media operation head Naveen Kumar Jindal – publicly made disparaging remarks about Prophet Muhammad.

    Quote

On Friday, hundreds of Muslims took to the streets in the Uttar Pradesh city of Kanpur to protest against the offensive remarks. Rather than moving to calm the tensions and punish those responsible under India’s hate speech laws, the authorities responded with violence: The police booked protesters under the state’s stringent “Gangster Act” and even threatened to “seize and demolish” their properties.

As the news about the offensive remarks – and the government’s response to protests over them – reached beyond the country’s borders, at least five Arab nations, including Qatar, lodged official protests against India.

First of all, Sharma and Jindal can hardly be described as “fringe elements” within the party. After all, prior to the incident, they both held high-ranking positions within the BJP – positions that allowed them to speak for the governing party and communicate its policies and strategies to the nation.

Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, it is difficult to argue that their Islamophobic views do not represent the government of India when none of the BJP’s leaders came out to issue a strong apology and the party’s Islamophobic policies, actions and statements are already well documented.

Indeed, Islamophobia has always been part and parcel of the BJP’s governing strategy.

Facts about great replacement theory of Indian anti-Muslim extremists

SHAFAQNA- The facts about the great replacement theory of Indian extremists who are anti-Muslim.

Supremacists have incited nationalist fears of Hindus regarding Muslim demographic rise. The extremist priest Yati Narsinghanand stated that in 2029 India will have a Muslim prime minister, since Muslims’ population is increasing. But, his blatant lie was called out through the obtained data from a government survey. A frequently quoted myth is that there exists a significantly higher fertility rate among Muslims in comparison with other communities in India.
India’s great replacement theory has been punctured as a result of the recent mass shooting in Buffalo, New York. This has triggered novel and careful examination of the American far-right’s great replacement theory. Former Indian chief election commissioner SY Quraishi said: it is an absolute trick that Muslims are going to become the biggest community in India. If members of congress and prominent media personalities in the US have amplified the “great replacement theory”, members of parliament and television channels in India have made the lie of a demographic threat to Hindus become accepted.

‘Hindutva pop’: The singers producing anti-Muslim music in India

Behind the rising Islamophobia in India lies a network of Hindu right-wing artists composing songs played during hate campaigns.

Quote

New Delhi, India – “Insaan nahi ho saalo, ho tum kasaayi; Bahut ho chuka Hindu-Muslim bhai bhai” – You are not human, you are butchers; it’s enough of Hindu-Muslim brotherhood.

These are the lyrics of a ‘bhajan’ (devotional song) that singer Prem Krishnavanshi posted on YouTube three years ago and has been viewed thousands of times since.

Triggered by contemporary hate politics, Krishnavanshi’s song is a part of a new mass culture in India where anti-Muslim songs are played in rallies by Hindu supremacist groups, mainly in what is called the country’s “Hindi belt” northern states.

Dozens of such music videos can be found on YouTube and other social media platforms, with the supporters of the Hindu far-right loving and sharing them for their messages of hate, abuse and even threats of genocide targeted at the Muslim minority.

Quote

Krishnavanshi sings in Hindi and Bhojpuri languages. His fan base is mainly in Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state with nearly 205 million residents, governed by the BJP’s saffron-robed Hindu monk, Yogi Adityanath, who is known for his anti-Muslim rhetoric and policies.

In many of his songs, Krishnavanshi suggests Muslims are “anti-nationals who should go to Pakistan”. One of his songs says: “Muslims will eventually force Hindus to pray namaz if they don’t wake up soon”.

But the singer claims they are not hate songs.

Recently, the Uttar Pradesh government gave him an award for his song praising the state’s hardline chief minister, Adityanath.

Many of these hate songs are also tributes to Hindu nationalist politicians such as Modi, Adityanath and other top BJP leaders.

Quote

The songs also talk about the Mughals and other Muslim rulers of the subcontinent, calling them “invaders” who spread Islam through violence and threats. Their music videos feature Hindu men sporting vermillion on their foreheads and brandishing swords, tridents and pistols.

‘Hindutva pop’

she said she used to sing songs of Muslim-Hindu brotherhood and religious coexistence in school events.

Quote

When Dubey performs with vermillion on her forehead and a marigold garland around her neck, the listeners groove to her “Hindutva pop” songs. “Hindutva” is a Hindi word that refers to the Hindu supremacist movement.

One of Dubey’s more popular songs says: “Agar Hindustan mein rehna hoga, To vande mataram kehna hoga” (If you want to stay in India, praise the motherland).

Quote

Brahma Prakash, a professor at New Delhi-based Jawaharlal Nehru University, told Al Jazeera the music of hate has changed the pattern of religious violence in India.

“We know the historical patterns of riots and massacres in India: the leader will give a speech and the riots will spill into the streets. But it seems that the pattern has changed. You don’t need a leader. What you need is a ‘Bhakti vibrator’,” said Prakash.

‘Bhakti’ in Hindi literally means devotion, but is also used to refer to the BJP’s supporters

“You just play the DJ [disc jockey] and it will fulfil its task. It will move the mobs and make them participate in massacre. You don’t need an instigator to incite violence. You set the tone, you set the track and the hate will rock,” he said.

Quote

Prakash said this form of music has “shocking” parallels with those produced under the Nazi regime in Germany in the 1930s.

“March band, processional music, repetitious slogans, communal singing, repeated cries of Jai Shri Ram [Hail Lord Ram] like ‘Heil’,” he said. “Music stirring the crowds into an emotional frenzy are not just a few resonances. The similarities are shocking

Dubey’s YouTube channel has nearly 300,000 followers, and her songs have millions of views and hundreds of provocative comments against India’s Muslims. She is often invited by BJP members to perform in their citie

Quote

But the singer says she “does not have anything against the Muslim community” but only against those “who are enemies of the country and support Pakistan”.

“Will someone from Pakistan just come and attack our country unless they are getting massive logistical support or shelter from anti-nationals of their religion? We have anti-nationals in countries who eat in India but support the neighbour,” she said.

What troubles Dubey, she told Al Jazeera, is “love jihad”an unproven conspiracy theory propagated by the Hindu far-right that alleges that Muslim men form relations with Hindu women in order to marry them and then convert them to Islam.

Dubey also believes in another right-wing conspiracy theory: that a large number of Muslims practice polygamy to have “a lot of children” and “increase their population”.

Quote

“Why would they [Muslims] marry Hindu girls and convert them? The minority communities are doing 5-10 marriages and have 20-50 children. Their population is growing heavily. If our country didn’t support them, would their population grow to this extent?” she said.

But Dubey claims her songs “spread awareness” among the Hindu community – a work that “makes her proud”.

“The youth who used to wear hoodies and torn clothes now proudly wear saffron. They are ready to sacrifice themselves for Hinduism,” she said. “I want to bring Hindus together to create an army.”

Quote

Dubey lauds Modi for abrogating the semi-autonomous status of Indian-administered Kashmir in 2019. “We had almost lost Kashmir, it’s because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that we still have it,” she said.

She also thinks the 1947 partition of the subcontinent to form India and Pakistan was not done properly.

Singer and songwriter Upendra Rana, from Uttar Pradesh’s city of Noida on the outskirts of the Indian capital, has more than 370,000 subscribers on YouTube.

Quote

One of Rana’s songs says: “Dharm ke naam zameen gayi, Islami mulk banaye” (In the name of their religion, we lost our land; they made it an Islamic nation).

The video of the song was shot at Dasna Devi Temple in Ghaziabad, a district neighbouring Noida. The temple is managed by Yati Narsinghanand, a controversial Hindutva leader who was recently arrested for his hate speeches against Muslims. The music video features Narsinghanand brandishing swords with Rana.

UN expresses concern over arrest of Indian journalist Mohammad Zubair

Delhi: Mohammed Zubair’s bail rejected, sent to 14-day judicial custody

The Delhi’s Patiala House Court rejected the bail plea of Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair, granting the Delhi police an extended 14-day judicial custody of the journalist, on Saturday.

Zubair was arrested in a case related to an “objectionable tweet” he had posted in 2018 against a Hindu deity.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Sarvaria allowed the police plea, which said further investigation was on.

The police had produced Zubair before the court on the expiry of his five-day custodial interrogation.—

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), an independent watchdog body, has called on Indian authorities to “immediately and unconditionally” release journalist Mohammad Zubair, who was arrested by security officials on Monday, and to cease harassing him in retaliation for his work,

Quote

“The arrest of journalist Mohammad Zubair marks another low for press freedom in India, where the government has created a hostile and unsafe environment for members of the press reporting on sectarian issues,” Steven Butler, CPJ’s Asia programme coordinator, in Washington, DC, said in a statement.

“Authorities must immediately and unconditionally release Zubair, and allow him to pursue his journalistic work without further interference,” Butler added.

Quote

Sinha wrote that Zubair had been summoned for questioning in relation to a 2020 criminal investigation over his social media posts, for which he was already granted protection from arrest by the Delhi High Court.

When Zubair responded to that summons, officers arrested him in relation to a criminal investigation opened earlier this month following a post about Zubair by an anonymous Twitter user with the account @balajikijaiin, according to those news reports.

Police accuse Zubair of promoting enmity between different groups and committing malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings, those reports said; if charged and convicted, he could face up to three years of prison and a fine for each offense, according to the Indian penal code.

The @balajikijaiin account features a profile photo of the Hindu god Hanuman; its most recent tweet was on June 19, in which it reposted a 2018 tweet by Zubair commenting on a hotel changing its name from “Honeymoon Hotel” to “Hanuman Hotel” after the ruling Hindu right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party came to power.

Quote

In its June 19 tweet, @balajikijaiin tagged the Delhi Police, called Zubair’s comment a “direct insult of Hindus” and asked the police to kindly take action against this guy.ť
Zubair, a Muslim, has repeatedly been targeted in criminal cases in retaliation for his posts on Twitter, where he has about 550,000 followers and which he uses for journalistic work.

Police in the Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh opened a criminal investigation into Zubair on June 3 after he tweeted that three right-wing Hindu activists were ‘hate mongers’ as CPJ documented at the time. On June 10, the Allahabad High Court refused to dismiss that case, according to news reports.

Quote

Uttar Pradesh police also opened a criminal investigation into Zubair in June 2021 over his social media posts about a video depicting a group of Hindu men beating an elderly Muslim man.

UN-2.jpg  MZ.jpeg

CPJ’s 2021 annual prison census found that seven journalists were detained in India and in occupied Jammu and Kashmir as of December 1, 2021, setting the country’s record for the highest number of detained journalists since at least 1992.

The BJP government in India has been extremely authoritarian in its suppression of information from both local and international sources, failing to observe the most basic rights related to flow of information, and has been targeting anyone voicing dissent from the officially approved version of the BJP.

The blocking of official Twitter accounts of Pakistani missions by India is yet another sign of how the BJP government is losing its democratic credentials – which were hardly there to start with – and diplomatic balance at the same time. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority(PTA) has taken up the blocking with Twitter management and demanded their restoration. Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also condemned India for its actions.

Their leaders have been spewing venom against Muslims and other religious minorities in India, prompting demonstrations across India and in other countries.

By utilizing the emergency clauses in different laws, the BJP’s Hindu nationalist government is suppressing all dissent and disagreement in society. For any modern society to thrive and gain respect, it needs to allow diverse thoughts rather than discouraging them systematically. In India, the space for plurality has diminished alarmingly in recent years. Not unrelated to this is the Indian insinuation linking a Pakistani organization to the suspects involved in the murder of a Hindu tailor in Udaipur. The BJP-RSS combine has been fanning communal violence for long but lately this has taken a ferocious turn.Their leaders have been spewing venom against Muslims and other religious minorities in India, prompting demonstrations across India and in other countries.

Zubair has been a vocal critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Independent journalist Rana Ayyub has been on the receiving end for long. Now so is rights activist and journalist Mohammed Zubair, the co-founder of fact-checking website AltNews. Zubair has been a vocal critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has been punished for this by an arbitrary arrest. Ostensibly, the police arrested him for questioning and then a Delhi court ordered that the police could hold him for four more days for further investigation – highlighting how even the judiciary in India is happily toeing the line of the BJP government.

Activists such as Zubair, Rana Ayyub, and Teesta Setalvad – who has also been arrested – have played a major role in drawing attention to the BJP-RSS misdeeds in India.

Quote

They have become a target for their crucial work combating disinformation and calling out discrimination against minorities. The situation in India has reached a crisis point and calls for international condemnation. It is hard to understand how the BJP government has been able to get away with so much victimization. We would expect much larger protests from watchdog groups, and the many others which operate around the world as well as governments which claim to support democracy and freedom.

BJP wrests back control of Maharashtra ahead of 2024 election

India can Have Working Relations with the Taliban

Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party will now form the government in Mumbai’s home state along with a faction of the regional Shiv Sena party, which surprised analysts by tying up with ideologically opposed parties such as Congress after the 2019 state election to oust the BJP.

Both the BJP and the Shiv Sena draw their support mainly from the majority Hindu community.

Quote

In the first week of June, a high-level Indian diplomatic delegation led by J P Singh, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs held a meeting with the Taliban’s acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in the Afghan capital.

In wake of this natural disaster, India has operationalised its embassy in Kabul in a limited manner by deploying a technical team to monitor and coordinate the delivery of humanitarian assistance. India still has no formal diplomatic ties with the Taliban government.

Quote

New Delhi was a direct beneficiary of two decades of U.S. military presence in Afghanistan. But the American complete exit has been particularly difficult for India and has sharply curtailed its role and influence in the country. But now India wants to make a new start with the Taliban so that it can have some decent presence in Afghanistan. Indian policyholders realise that the Taliban regime is a reality, and engagement with them can ensure some form of regional security and stability. Given the huge investments, India has made in Afghanistan over a long period.

Quote

Total disengagement with the Taliban will only allow the vacuum to grow which is something India can’t afford. Particularly considering Pakistan’s interests and China’s footprint in the country. Also, New Delhi has economic and strategic ambitions in Afghanistan and the Central Asian states. Which cannot be fulfilled without establishing ties with the rulers in Kabul. Also Extending aid and developing trade and diplomatic ties with the Taliban regime are seen as ways to prevent it from acting against Indian interests.

Quote

On the other hand, the Taliban is also looking eager to engage with India. The Indian diplomats amazingly found all the embassy property in Kabul-the ambassador’s residence, the new Indian chancery as well as the residential accommodation inside the complex-in good shape. The Taliban had made sure that all the properties had been properly guarded these last ten months, sending a powerful signal that it wants to re-engage with India.

Quote

The Taliban is looking for sovereignty and economic independence from Pakistan. For them, India is a very viable option. India was never averse to any reconciliation process with the Taliban as far as New Delhi is concerned, the Taliban is not the central problem.

Quote

The best thing about India’s diplomatic return to Afghanistan is that at last direct contact with the Taliban regime will be established. So India won’t have to depend on third-party contacts, via the US or Russia or Qatar. It is always better to speak directly to a concerned party rather than through someone else.
