Imam Hussain (عليه السلام) and Karbala

The Month of Muharram

Imam Ridha (عليه السلام) said, "With the advent of the month of Muharram, my father Imam Kadhim (عليه السلام) would never be seen laughing; gloom and sadness would overcome him for (the first) ten days of the month; and when the tenth day of the month would dawn, it would be a day of tragedy, grief and weeping for him and He would say, "This is the day on which Imam Hussain (عليه السلام) was killed".

[Source: al-Amaali, Shaikh Saduq, Pg. 128]

No day like Ashura!!!

Narrated from Imam Sadiq (عليه السلام) from his Father (عليه السلام) from his Grandfather (عليه السلام):

أن حسين بن علي بن أبي طالب (عليه السلام) دخل يوما على الحسن (عليه السلام) فلما نظر إليه بكى فقال ما يبكيك قال أبكي لما يصنع بك فقال الحسن (عليه السلام) إن الذي يؤتى إلي سم يدس إلي فأقتل به و لكن لا يوم كيومك يا أبا عبد الله

Hussain Ibn Ali Ibn Abi Talib (عليه السلام) entered on the day of (Martyrdom) Al-Hassan (عليه السلام) and wept when he looked at him. Imam Hassan (عليه السلام) said: What makes you cry, he said Al-Hassan (peace be upon him) that which is brought to you (Poison)

Imam Hassan (عليه السلام) said: "And there is no day like your day O Aba Abdillah."

Message for muharram. We all have our free right to live a life in whichever way we want as long as we abide by laws set by the nation we live in. There are certain laws set by religion and some set as ethics that we learn from our families we are brought up in. We have to recognize the difference between the laws that are national, Traditional or Ethical, such that If we fail to act on national Laws it may cause us physical harm and also force us to pay a penalty sometimes. Some rules and Regulations taught to us by our religion and ethical attitudes, have a spiritual effect on our life which we rarely consider or recognise. The moment we accept a religion and understand the importance of it in our lives we are duty bound to respect its laws and follow it duly, in case we feel it is not competent for us to follow some part of it or more, then we ought to be regretful for our shortfalls and offer apology to our All-Wise All-Loving Lord rather than criticising the religion itself. Every Religion has some sort of spiritual impact in life, the more the depth of divinely inspired spirituality we dig for, the more we get. It's your choice to select your religion based on your sincere truth searching study and keep your belief steadfast on it. I hereby understand that in my belief of Islam, after the holy prophet (peace be on him & all divine messengers & their divinely chosen successors) the soul of Islam was in the selection of a rightful divinely guided leader who would have the same understanding and a similar mindset as of the Holy Prophet (p) himself, in respect to the laws and regulations. Also a leader who'd practice Islam in the same manner as described in the Holy Quran as expounded & implemented by the Prophet (p). The only reason Imam Hussein (p) gave the grand sacrifice in Karbala was to save the true soul of Islam which had been corrupted by the then misguided caliph of Islam if he was to continue to rule in the manner he did in the name of Islam. The sacrifice of the great Imam was for this main reason. Many individuals have offered sacrifices in the world and for many reasons but none has had the same effect on the nations, upon their followers nor is there any historical record in the world for such a long millennium where by the followers can mourn in the same manner or even more every year with the same feeling as that for Imam Hussain (p) and this on it's own is an ongoing miracle. Surely the saying of the Holy Prophet (p) can never be proven wrong. The Heat of Hussaini Love The Holy Prophet ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم).) said: Surely, there exists in the hearts of the Mu’mineen, with respect to the martyrdom of Hussain ((عليه السلام).), a heat that never subsides. (Mustadrak al‑Wasail vol 10 pg. 318). With this, may Allah guide us all to understand the path, purpose & principles of Hussein (p) in this sacred month of Muharram.

Recently, every year, the Important Guidelines for Muharram 1443 Programs is sent out.

IMPORTANT GUIDELINES
FROM THE COUNCIL OF SHIA MUSLIM SCHOLARS OF NORTH AMERICA
FOR CONDUCTING MUHARRAM 1443 PROGRAMS

In the name of the Almighty

May the blessings of Allãh be upon Prophet Muhammad & his holy family

The Holy Prophet (s) said: “Verily there is a warmth in the hearts of the believers for the martyrdom of al-Ḥusayn that will never cool off.”

The ceremonies and gatherings commemorating the tragedy of Karbala during the month of Muḥarram and Ṣafar are the hallmarks of Shī‘ī Islam. The sacrifice of Imam Ḥusayn (a), his family and companions solidified and safeguarded the foundation of the authentic teachings of Islam as delivered by the Holy Prophet (s).

The Prophet (s) unequivocally predicted that the warmth in the hearts of the believers [from the tragedy of this event] will never cool off. May Almighty God bless the mourners, increase their numbers, and protect them.

Indeed the commemorative ceremonies have continued uninterrupted through time, but they have always done so by recognizing the prevailing social and political factors and prudently proceeding to ensure the preservation of Islamic ideals. We are still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and although many people are vaccinated, we cannot ignore the ongoing spread of the coronavirus and its dire implications on our communities in North America.

Thanks brother, I wanted to know what else we do other than praying and dua?

I mean obviously it's a mourning period, so constantly thinking of Imam Hussain (عليه السلام) throughout the day, and making sure to cry a lot. If you can't attend majalis, watch on YouTube, because I'm pretty sure the rewards for majalis are great. Other than this, you'll have to ask someone knowledgeable inshallah.

There's also Sheikh Al Hilli, he has majalis here as well:

Guidelines From Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America For Muharram 1443

In the name of the Almighty May the blessings of Allãh (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) be upon Prophet Muhammad ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) & his holy family (عليه السلام)
The Prophet ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) said: “Verily there is a warmth in the hearts of the believers for the martyrdom of Al-Ḥussain (عليه السلام) that will never cool off.”

Quote

Online programs:

Many centers will continue holding Muḥarram programs online as was done during the Month of Ramadhān.

Programs at centers:

Some centers will decide to open for the Muḥarram program, either partially or fully. For such centers, the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America strongly urges to evaluate their local situation and if there is surge in the spread of the virus (such as currently seen in the southern states of the USA), then it would be prudent religiously to adopt the online format for ‘Aza programs.

Private Majālis at Homes:

Many Shias organize private majlis at their homes during Muḥarram and Ṣafar. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there are serious issues in such gatherings that need to be considered, and so the same advice given to the centres applies here also.
However, if a person decides to organize the private majlis, then he or she is legally and religiously responsible to adhere to the guidelines of the local health authorities as follows:

What was the Arabic phrase that when any martyr would call imam Hussain for help while Falling off their horses in the maidan-

@Ashvazdanghe

I have not found specific Arabic  phrase however Imam Hussain (عليه السلام) has been aware of situation  of martyrs , so consequently , he would be on their death bed after falling  off their horses without need of calling him by martyrs .

Evidence that the Imams (عليه السلام) knew of their martyrdoms

Quote

1. In general, all Shias believe that Imam Hussain (عليه السلام) and all the other Imams had and have prior knowledge of events and knowledge about what would and will happen in the future. They acquire this knowledge from the Holy Prophet’s ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) teachings and divine inspiration

2. There are a lot of Hadiths (traditions) recounted in books by the various sects of Islam which prove that the Holy Prophet ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) knew everything about the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (عليه السلام) and the place and manner of the tragic event of Karbala

3. It has been directly reported in various Hadiths that Imam Hussain (عليه السلام) knew about his martyrdom at Karbala. Although the chains of transmission for some of these hadiths have problems, some sections of these chains are authentic.....

We will now refer to some of these Hadiths:https://en.shafaqna.com/227926/evidence-that-the-imams-knew-of-their-martyrdoms/
