:salam:

I have wanted to ask this for years.

Such a long qunut, repeated so many times in a row. Eid prayer feels so long, arms hurt, I do not find the wisdom in it.

On what basis is that prayer celebrated that way - meaning the 5+4 'Allahumma ahl al kibria wal `azama' ?

Walykum salam.

People who understand the wisdom behind Eid prayer would think there is nothing more enjoyable and pleasurable than this Eid prayer.

The Prophet (s) in general used to enjoy prayer so much that he stood up all night praying to the point that his feet used to get swollen. I also heard he would stand up on his toes for hours and hours during prayer.

There is remarkable wisdom in all this. If people would understand the logic and the need for Qunut, they would wish the Qunut never ends and they could spend their entire lives standing with their arms up begging Allah for his mercy.

Salam. I cannot say it is mustahab because I don't know. Eid prayer has a long qunoot because it has been done that way for a long time and people expect it. Once or twice a year (EID UL FITR AND EID UL AZHA PRAYERS).

1529. Any recital or Dua will suffice in qunut of the Eid Prayers. However, it is better that the following Dua is recited: Allahumma ahlal kibriya'i wal 'azamah, wa ahlal judi wal jaburat, wa ahlal 'afwi war rahmah, wa ahlat taqwa wal maghfirah. As aluka bihaqqi hazal yawmil lazi ja'altahu lil muslimina 'ida , wali Muhammadin sal lal lahu 'Alaihi wa Alihi, zukhran wa sharafan wa karamatan wa mazida an tusalliya 'ala Muhammad wa Ali Muhammad wa an tudkhilani fi kulli khayrin adkhalta fihi Muhammadan wa Ala Muhammad wa an tukhrijani min kulli su'in akhrajta minhu Muhammadan wa Ala Muhammad salawatuka 'alahi wa 'alahim. Alla humma inni as aluka khayra ma sa alaka bihi ibadukas salihun, wa auzubika mim masta aza minhu ibadukal mukhlasun.

:salam:

Thanks but you focused on that wisdom - which btw is not that wise considering some advice often given not to make salah too long for attendees, often used as a counter argument to tarawih but that's another issue.

I wanted to know where this practice comes from.
