Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland) Bill.

The proposed new law will make it easier for people in Scotland to change their legally recognised gender, and is due its final vote at Holyrood next week.

It will remove the requirement for a medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria as a condition of acquiring a gender recognition certificate.

The good news is that for years some people have claimed the supremacy of scientific reason over religion and now many of those very people are coming up with these claims. We should be grateful to God for being alive to see this.

Traces of suspected cocaine found after parties in Liz Truss’s grace-and-favour house, say staff

Quote

Traces of a suspected class A drug were found at a government grace-and-favour home after parties attended by political allies of Liz Truss, the Guardian has been told.

The white powder was discovered at the Chevening estate last summer in the days before Truss won the Tory leadership contest and became prime minister, according to sources.

A member of staff claimed they tested the powder using a swab which changes colour when it comes into contact with cocaine, and it indicated the drug was present.

Funny. I don't remember Zelenskyy being at Chevening last summer :hahaha:

Automotive supply chains ... from China being cut

This is one of those news items that does not make it to the front pages of MSM, but is useful for understanding the long term plans of superpowers.

Fits in with my view that the war with Russia is a preliminary step for something further down the line with China.

Quote

But international groups have now launched a quiet yet concerted effort to cut their reliance on China’s sprawling network of components makers, according to industry executives and supply chain experts.

They were happy to outsource everything to China as long as it remained a toothless autocracy which offered cheap labour/products. But as soon as China became self-reliant and rich, it suddenly became a "security threat." The US only likes vassals and client states.

Related to your point, I think some people felt that China would become a big version of Singapore - capitalist, pseudo-democratic and with limited foreign policy ambitions. This was always going to be problematic given the difference in size.

Even the above has attendant problems. The great thing about a Communist but poor China was that it was never competing very much for natural resources.

But as soon as you start outsourcing production, those Chinese factories will need inputs and those will come from developing countries i.e. you are de facto also outsourcing to China an economic relationship with Africa/Asia!

@Haji 2003

But this isn’t science and shouldn’t be used to denigrate science. Biology is fixed and based on reproductive organs. The fact that some social engineers (politicians) are now claiming that biological sex is “gender” and hence infinitely fluid should not be used as a justification to jettison science altogether. That is just what the social engineers, the science-deniers, want.

I agree, sorry if I was not clear.

I was pointing out the irony of those people who claim to abide by a scientific gold standard apparently falling well short of it for their own ideological reasons. The latter being a weakness which they associate with theists.

@Haji 2003

Well, the whole “gender” (LBGTQ+I) ideology, like the concept of gender, is based on the notion that human biology is inherently fluid, which is nonsensical. (Biological sex, by contrast, is not fluid and therefore can be empirically observed, tested, and verified.) “Gender” ideology is more akin to a (quasi- or pseudo-)religious cult based on mystical, intuitive, subjective “revelations” that might well be nothing more than an individual’s own ravings in his mind. The problem is that well-financed political operatives are promoting this new “religion” to corrupt authentic science and in effect justify the equivalent of a modern-day Jim Jones-type scam, but with arguably even more dangerous consequences. It’s like giving Josef Mengele access to CRISPR or the Taliban access to the nuclear launch codes. (Well, we do have the likes of Klaus Schwab and his gang of trans-humanists, so the “gender” ideologues are certainly in “good” company...)

My take: this is all about the Great Reset, eugenics, and depopulation. Destroy the family to “save” the planet.

My take (fwiw) is that the story starts with the liberalisation of heterosexual relationships.

Once you free them from the constraints of the Church's rules, it becomes somewhat hypocritical to expect homosexuals to abide by the 'rules' and once they are freed, it's open season for everyone else as well.

As regards your take, I don't know enough about the chain of causality and the intended winners and losers to assess it.

Women should not necessarily sit at home, Leader's Twitter account says

Quote

"When we say housewife, we don’t mean a woman should sit at home & do nothing, and that she should not get involved in social work or political activities," Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei's Twitter account tweeted.

"No, being a housewife means taking care of one's home, & alongside that, she can do any other work that she is able to manage," the tweet reads.

Iran to protest use of fake name for Persian Gulf

The arrangement of the Persian Gulf Arab Cup under a fake name in the Iraqi city of Basra brought about numerous criticisms, so the Iranian football federation issued a protesting statement on Saturday, which will be handed over to the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).

The statement emphasizes that following the use of a fake name for the historical title of the Persian Gulf at the cup, promoted the Iranian federation to convey official complaints of the Iranian nation and the football community in Iran to FIFA.

Quote

Obviously, the Persian Gulf is a noble and historical name, which has been applied in all languages and various atlases, including ancient and historical maps, the statement noted.

The unchallengeable documents regarding the issue will be handed over to FIFA to pursue the overhaul of the inappropriate methods of using names, which are in contradiction to international customs.

The 25th edition of the Persian Gulf Arab Cup kicked off on Friday, with participation of football teams from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Yemen, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Iraq.

When Al-Sudani opened the tournament last week he used the official name of the "Arabian Gulf Cup", while Al-Sadr also used the term "Arabian Gulf" in his tweet to welcome the Arab guests to Basra.

Iranian MP Alireza Salimi also brought up the subject during a parliamentary session on Sunday, calling on Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Sudani and the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada Al-Sadr, to apologise for using the "fake" name for the Gulf, which "has always been, and always will be Persian."

Quote

On Saturday, a day after the 25th Gulf Cup kicked off, the Iranian football federation announced that they will be lodging a protest to FIFA over the naming of the tournament, saying "the Persian Gulf is a noble and historical name, which has been applied in all languages and various atlases, including ancient and historical maps."

Iran warns France over ‘insulting’ ayatollah cartoons in Charlie Hebdo

Iranian foreign minister promises ‘decisive and effective response’ to caricatures of Ali Khamenei.

Quote

Paris chose “the wrong path” in allowing the publication of “insulting” cartoons of Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, Iran Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said Wednesday.

Quote

“The insulting and indecent act of a French publication in publishing cartoons against the religious and political authority will not go without a decisive and effective response,” Amir-Abdollahian tweeted.

“We will not allow the French government to go beyond all bounds,” he wrote, adding: “They have definitely chosen the wrong path.”

The drawings were selected as part of a competition launched by the French publication last month, which called on press cartoonists to send their “funniest and meanest caricature of Ali Khamenei.”

Quote

“Caricatures are something that is almost part of a political weapon used by the mullahs, so we used it too, against them,” explained the cartoonist Laurent Sourisseau, who goes by his artist name “Riss.”

Google, whose mapping service enjoys the largest readership in the world, decided to show people from the Arab Gulf states one thing, and the Iranians and the rest of the users, another.

In other words, Google Maps has at least two different versions of the fiercely contested area, so that when users from countries like the UAE search for the world map, what they see is Ar.... Gulf. But everywhere else, however, what is shown primarily is still Persian Gulf.

A Google search for the world map using the domain for users in the UAE, for instance, shows the waterway labelled as Ara... Gulf.

But if someone does the same search using a different domain, say, United Kingdom (www.google.co.uk/maps) or France (www.google.fr/maps), what is immediately visible is 'Persian Gulf'. The user has to zoom in to be able to see Ara... Gulf, written in parentheses, below the 'Persian Gulf'.

Quote

Google justifies its action by saying it is merely trying to be “consistent with the names people use locally to describe geographic areas.”

Does this mean Google considers 'Persian Gulf' as the most widely used name?

Quote

“Yes. In such cases, the primary, global name is the name most commonly and globally applied to the feature across a wide variety of cartographic publishers and third-party authorities,” the spokesperson said.

Quote

“It customizes the maps by presenting different versions of a disputed area. This way, it avoids offending the opposing factions,” said one IT analyst in Dubai.

Alexandra Pisetskaya of Help AG, an information security services and solutions provider, said that organisations like Google don’t take sides in cases where no consensus has been reached.

“Companies, especially global players such as Google, can’t be expected to take a political stand as it could adversely impact their business. With a service such as Google Maps, however, there is scope for hurting a nation’s sentiment – as evident in this particular case,” Pisetskaya told Gulf News.

Guess we'll be seeing more of this

Obviously the plant is Chinese funded. We're moving towards a world where the CIA might be helping unions while the Chinese support businesses.

Wonders will never cease.

Lessons for Muslim kids in East London

This is the reason why Muslim societies are not as accepting of alternative sexualities. While adults who belong to sexual minorities ask for equality for themselves - ultimately, their interest extends to influencing the children of heterosexuals.

Freedom and democracy come soon to Morocco, Algeria etc.

The problem:

Quote

Our planet faces “phosphogeddon”, scientists have warned. They fear our misuse of phosphorus could lead to deadly shortages of fertilisers that would disrupt global food production.

The solution:

Quote

However, significant deposits of phosphorus are found in only a few countries: Morocco and western Sahara have the largest amount, China the second biggest deposit and Algeria the third.

But:

Quote

a few cartels could soon control most of the world’s supplies and leave the west highly vulnerable to soaring prices. The result would be the phosphate equivalent of the oil crisis of the 1970s.

FWIW King Faisal of Saudi who instigated the crisis was assassinated.

Chinese are selling down US Treasuries and buying gold

Quote

China's U.S. government bond holdings hit the lowest in over 12 years at the end of December, while its gold trove grew against a backdrop of American interest rate hikes and bilateral tensions.

Chinese holdings of Treasury securities fell for the fifth straight month in December to $867 billion, data published Wednesday by the U.S. Treasury Department shows.

The figure fell $173.2 billion, or 17%, in 2022 -- the biggest drop since 2016. China was not the only nation to sell down its Treasury holdings -- all foreign holdings of Treasury securities fell 6% in 2022 -- but its move was large.

I think there is some annoyance that there were hijabs who served as judges in the US back in the 1990s. So she is not the first. The previous were women of colour, which may be why they are overlooked.

Twitter claims (correctly) the BBC is government funded

Some people don't like this because they believe that the BBC is funded by a 'licence fee', and not a tax and therefore, it is independent of the UK government.

This is typical of the sleight of hand British governments have historically used. The tweet below represents the government's view and the reply is the reality - which is that in the UK if you have a television set you HAVE to pay the fee or risk being fined.

There is also a constant debate about how much the licence fee should be - which is something that the government decides.
