Hope London does not turn into Sarajevo

Multicultural capital surrounded by a seething mass of angry fascists.

Quote

In London, two-thirds of live births last year involved parents where either one or both were born outside of the UK, the highest percentage of such births of all the English regions and Wales.

Russia to Saudi Freight via Iran

Russia can’t export directly to Saudi or is it because Saudi Arabia don’t want any sanctions?

Salam for any type of export Russia must sends cargos through Iraq or Iran territory which Iraq teritory is not safe enough for it so therefore only shortest way is sending cargos through Iran.

Salam from my point of view from  released pictures it looks like a too horrible sculpture that works against Hijab which face of woman looks like an oppressed sad woman who doesn't has a hand to remove her forced  Hijab .

When the professor of Tehran University has made a statue of a woman wearing an Islamic hijab + photo

The symbol of an Islamic woman, which was installed in front of the door of Nargis Park in District 22, is a tall woman in awe of a Chador.

Some Sunnis are saying that the UK statue is not Islamic anyway because Statues are not allowed. How do we stand on that?

Salam making statue with good  message likewise praising hijab have been allowed in Shia Islam but on the other hand Sunni viewpoint has double standards or even more than that which depends on will of rulers likewise UAE that you can find different types of statues in squares which have been built by order of UAE ruler also this statue in UK looks like an insult to Hijab which has been built under guise of "Strength of the Hijab" which in eye of westerners "Strength of the Hijab" means oppression of women by forcing Hijab on them .

Salam it's about avoiding (refraining from) it based on obligatory precaution which you have interpreted as total banning based on your mindset also I have mentioned differences of Iran & UAE which have more open environment than Iraq although you can find some sculptures in non religious cities likewise Baghdad which there is no sculpture in religious cities likewise najaf & Karbala due to obligatory precaution which you can see many sculptures in Iran which have been made based on Shia Islamic standards by experts while UAE just has followed demands of foreign tourists likewise Zionist Israeli tourists  also main point here about about making ugly sculpture in Smethwick Britain in name of "strength of Hijab" which has been made by request of muslims but it has anti Islamic specially anti Hijab message  .:respect:

The appointment of David Cameron as Foreign Secretary is dangerous. As PM, Cameron allowed UAE autocrat Mohammed bin Zayed to dictate UK policy on the Arab Spring and to push Islamophobic policies including insisting on an investigation of the Muslim Brotherhood. Since then, he's been on the UAE payroll, supposedly for 'teaching at Abu Dhabi university'. He was the UAE's man in Number 10 and now he's their man at the Foreign Office.

Anti-Zionist British Professor wins case

Quote

The Employment Tribunal has released its judgment in my landmark legal case against @BristolUni, concluding that I was wrongfully dismissed in October 2021 and discriminated against because of my anti-Zionist beliefs. This is not just a victory for me, but also a victory for pro-Palestine campaigners across Britain.

Sadiq Khan retains London Mayorlty

I voted for him because he's way less toxic on a range of issues compared to his chief challenger.

Note the following however:

Quote

According to London Elects, which manages the mayoral and London assembly elections, voter turnout was only 1.5% down from 2021, at 40.5%.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/article/2024/may/04/sadiq-khan-elected-london-mayor-for-third-term-in-further-boost-for-labour-susan-hall

Worth comparing with coverage when Iran voted earlier this year, the same Guardian newspaper started their news story with the following headline:

Screenshot 2024-05-04 at 16.46.06.png

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/mar/01/iran-election-extended-by-two-hours-with-turnout-at-just-27

So a 40% turnout questions the legitimacy of the vote in Iran, but not in London.

United States against 'foreign agents bill' in Georgia

Seems like a very sensible law to me

Quote

Under the legislation, media or civil society groups in Georgia that receive more than 20% of their funding from abroad will have to register as “organisations serving the interests of a foreign power”.

All we need is an ISIS attack on Chinese interests for a full set - and the Americans would still claim they have nothing to do with it!

Middle Eastern protests this year

Not widely reported

Quote

In May, Kuwait’s ruler dissolved the country’s rowdy, opposition-dominated parliament, a rare bird in the Middle East, for up to four years. It made few headlines. That same month, Tunisian police assaulted and arrested lawyers and raided the bar association offices, part of an ongoing crackdown on dissent. There was little international attention. In July, the UAE held a mass trial for around 80 political dissidents and activists, handing down 43 life sentences for alleged terror offences. Most of the details were kept secret.

Iran helping China improve its competitiveness

Quote

Iran launched its first freight train to China on July 21 using the new railway. The Iranian train will pass through the neighbouring countries of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan on its way to China.

According to him, this train route would be crucial infrastructure for boosting trade between Iran and China, making Iran a secure gateway for China to access Europe and vice versa.

According to Jafari, the train takes almost half the time of sea transportation and has competitive tariffs.

BBC somewhat shy about history

There's some news about a shipwreck today, and you have to dig around to find out what the BBC was too shy to mention.

Quote

The wreck of a ship which sank more than 200 years ago has been granted special protection by the government. The 1,300-tonne ship set sail from Portsmouth to Bengal and China in 1805 but during a storm it struck a sandbank and foundered about a mile off the shores of Weymouth.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy0r5nljzv4o

On Twitter, Alan Lester, a professor of colonialism

https://x.com/aljhlester/status/1823617615215939721

provides this link about what this ship was carrying:

Quote

The cargo on board the ship comprised a wide variety of goods to be supplied to the British administrators and army officers in Bengal. Cotton, rice, sandalwood and indigo would be transported from Bengal to China, with tea, silk and porcelain picked up in Canton for the voyage home. In addition, the Earl of Abergavenny was carrying a large quantity of silver dollars, (worth, at the time, £70,000) to pay for the goods it would be picking up in Bengal and China. Also collected in Bengal and bound for China would be a consignment of opium, which would form a substantial part of the overall profit John Wordsworth stood to gain from the voyage. On a wider scale, Britain’s support of the opium trade at this time was helping to finance payment of the East India Company administration, as well as the ongoing war against the French.

Definitely that is an interesting and truthful statement.

FYI, everyone. Where I live in the US, if there is a public vote, anything above 20% is considered a successful vote. Many people are voted into office with very few votes, simply because people do not bother to vote for the best person for the position. They ignore voting and then it is highly likely that really horrible people can be voted into office.

Emirates promoting modest weddings

Quote

Even as Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah position themselves as wedding destinations for foreigners with cash to splash, anxiety about the ballooning extravagance of Emirati weddings has long simmered. In the early 2000s, anthropologist Jane Bristol-Rhys estimated that Emirati couples invited 800 people on average, in weddings costing about “$280,000”. She describes “monstrous floral arrangements, statuesque ice-carvings, canopies and columns that are in turn decorated with metres of colourful silk and ribbons.”

https://www.ft.com/content/127a311c-8503-4c0d-a624-3333c03f0da5

Which has led to:

Quote

Under the Medeem Model and the Dubai Wedding Programme, also introduced this year, Emirati couples will be eligible for loans and subsidies if they opt for scaled-back celebrations, often organised with government-selected event planners and held in specific halls — or better still, a family home. Couples may also undertake counselling, as part of a more holistic approach aiming at stable marriages.
