Before I became interested in Shia Islam Alhamdulillah I used to read books by Dr. Bilal Philips. Dr. Philips is a salafi with Ahl as-Sunnah wa’l-Jamaa‘ah. He has a  diploma in Arabic and a B.A. from the College of islamic Disciplines (Usul ad-Deen) at the Islamic University of Madinah in 1979.

Muhammad: His Life Based on the Earliest Sources by Muhammad Husayn Haykal

One of the best in English language.

Read it three times during the 90's...pretty good book from a Sunni perspective.

Yeah his school is called Islamic online university. I've read his books ''Fundamentals of Tawheed'', The purpose of creation'', 'usool at tafseer'( the methodology of quranic interpretation) and ''Ibn Taymiyyah's Essay On The Heart''. Dr.Philips is a good Man and Muslim.

Depends on the field you want to read. I enjoy Nuh Ha Mim Keller’s books on Sufism and traditional sunni islam.
