When visiting a grave, what are a list of acts, duas, particular quran chapters, etc. that will possibly relieve some of the pain they may be experiencing and provide them with forgiveness from Allah?

Can a believing person be forgiven for acts they did not repent for after death, with the prayers of a living person, or intercession by Ahlulbayt ((عليه السلام))?

Salam,

There are several acts, duas and chapters of Quran which could bring ease for the soul of the deceased Mo'min/Mo'minah.

The one which I suggest in light of the ahadith of Ma'sumeen (عليه السلام), is to recite Sura e Mulk and gift it to the soul of the deceased.

It is said that if the soul of person is in pain, Sura e Mulk will bring ease in his/her pain. If the soul of person is in joy, the recitation will increase his/her joyful condition.

Here are some of the merits of Sura e Mulk:

Quote

1) Ibn Babuwayh, by his chain, from Abu Baseer,

‘Abu Abdullah (عليه السلام) has said: ‘The one who recites: Blessed is the One in Whose Hand is the Kingdom [67:1] (Surah Al-Mulk) in the Prescribed (Salats) before he sleeps, he would never cease to be in the Protection of Allahazwj until the morning, and be in Hisazwj Protection on the Day of Judgement until he enters the Paradise.

(ثواب الاعمال 119)

2) Muhammad Bin Yaqoub, from a number of our companions, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, and Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad bin Isa altogether, from Ibn Mahboub, from Jameel, from Sudeyr, who has narrated the following:

‘Abu Ja’far (عليه السلام) has said: ‘Surah Al-Mulk, it is the Preventer. It Prevents from the Punishment of the grave. And Surah Al-Mulk, it is Written in the Torah.

And one who recites it during his night, so he has done much, and acceptable, and would not be Written as being from the heedless ones.

And I was performing Ruku with it after the Al-Isha (Salat) the last, and I was seated, and that my father used to recite it during his day and his night.

And the one who recites it, when there enter upon him Naakir and Nakeer (two questioning Angels in the grave) from the side of his feet, his feet would say to the two of them, ‘There is no way for the two of you towards me, for this is the servant who used to stand upon me, so he recited Surah Al-Mulk every day and night.

So if they come to him from his middle side, it would say to the two of them, ‘There is no way for the two of you towards me, for this is the servant sheltered Surah Al-Mulk inside me, every day and night.

And if they come to him from the side of his tongue, it would say to the two of them, ‘There is no way for the two of you towards me, for this servant used to recite Surah Al-Mulk by me every day and night.

(Al-Kafi 26/243:2)

And Al-Sadiq (عليه السلام) said; ‘The one who recites it (Surah Al-Mulk) upon a dead body, Allahazwj would Protect him from whatever he is in.

And if it is recited and gifted to the dead, it would rush to them like the streak of lightning, by the Permission of Allahazwj’

(خواص القرأن)

4)  It has been reported from the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) having said: ‘The one who recites this Surah (Al-Mulk), it would be a Rescuer from the Punishment of the grave, and he would be Given the Recompense as if he stayed awake during the Night of Pre-determination.

And the Rasool-Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: ‘One who memorises it, it would be a companion for him in his grave, and intercede for him in the Presence of Allahazwj on the Day of Judgement until he enters the Paradise safely.

And one who recites it, and gifts it to his brothers, it would rush to them like a streak of lightning, and Protect them from whatever they are in, and be a companion for them in their graves

(Tafseer Al Burhan – H 10906)

Salam , It's possible  like doing good deeds by their children  or a useful book  or text for others which has written or building a useful structure like school or mosque or digging a well  before his death which benefits  to dead person after death also in narration  said that Ahlulbayt  (عليه السلام) can't  do intercession while we are in Barzakh but there is some reports & stories about forgiving sins in NDE or after burial while still soul of dead person is in grave for questioning .

Certainly, if the rewards for the good deeds done by others and dedicated to the sinner are to the extent that they can make up for his sins, then there is no doubt that his sins will be compensated by those good deeds. Basically, it is in accord with God's justice to replace the bad deeds of a sinner with others' good deeds, if they dedicate the rewards of their good deeds to him and if the rewards are to a pretty good deal. That is because God the Almighty has left this way open to the sinner, as per the saying of His Messenger (s). [33] In

Quote

this world also, if someone commits an offence and inflicts a loss upon another person and if a third person compensates the loss on the offender's behalf, definitely the person who suffered the loss will agree to accept the compensation and forgive the offender. If he does not accept the compensation, he will be reproached in common view. Therefore, one should not wonder or question as to how the sin of a sinner who has died is wiped out with the charity and good deeds done by the survivors.

Indeed, if an individual has committed so many great sins that if all the good doers dedicate the rewards of their good deeds to him, they cannot compensate his great and numerous sins, in this case, his sins will never be forgiven by others' good deeds. In fact, God will reduce the effect of his sin and subject him to lesser punishment.

What good deeds can we do that the dead will receive its reward?

Concise answer

By having patience when calamities befall us and pondering and thinking about the fact that everyone will leave this world someday, one can make the situation of losing a loved one easier to adapt to. Some of the mustahaab acts that can be done for the dead are as follows: Praying Wahshat prayer, paying charity, reciting supplications and Quran. It is noteworthy that Wahshat prayer is only mustahab for the first night of burial. After that, it is better to carry out other mustahab acts for the dead.

Yes, according to a hadith. If we do any good deed on behalf of our parents, our act of goodness would be beneficial for our parents as well as for ourselves. Here is the hadith:

Imam Sadiq (عليه السلام) said: What stops a person from among you to perform good deeds on behalf of your parents, whether dead or alive? Perform the ritual prayers on their behalf, pay Sadaqah, do the Hajj and keep fasts. What you do for them will be recompensed to them and you will also get its equal reward. Thus Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, in view of that good deed increases it many times for you.

(Usool Kafi; Vol. 2, Pg. 159, Chapter of Parents, tr. No. 7)

Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) have said this:

I will be interceding on the Day of Judgment for whoever has faith in his heart.

My intercession will be for the people who committed the cardinal sins (al-kaba΄ir) except shirk and dhulm (polytheism and oppression).

In another hadith it is said that the Intercessors are five: the Qur’an, one’s near relatives, trusts (amanah), your Prophet, and the family of your Prophet (the Ahlul Bayt).
