Witchcraft is as evil as it gets.

There is nothing more evil than witchcraft.

If you do witchcraft you will go to Jahannem.

Witchcraft is from the AntiChrist/Dajjel. Meaning in order to perform witchcraft you will have to go through her/him. It is a dangerous road to take and you will not ever be able to recover.

Witchcraft is not all evil, but, if you learn it's methods and seek power from unclean spirits then it leads to worshiping Iblis. If you ever do a harmful spell to others through Satanic forces, you've disbelieved at that point.

That said, there is no difference between prayer and magic, really, except prayer traditionally is seeking help and power from God while magic seeks help from entities that are obscure and their authority is not proven.

In reality, Mohammad (s) and Ahlulbayt (a) allowed humans to learn everything, including learning black magic in knowledge in order to cure people from it by power from God. We have hadiths, however, binding others and believing the power of Iblis is on par with that of God and his Wali is disbelief, and Harut and Marut were two kings appointed by God (Awsiya of a Prophet) who taught magic so people dispel the evil of it. They taught the poison, so people can cure of it.  Look up the hadiths about the verses.

Even Zodiac stars and astrology, you can learn, but can't believe in it.  You can learn to know the system Iblis has caught humanity in and how he controls humans. It's good to learn to that you can free yourself and learn to free others but if you have no guidance from Ahlulbayt (a) or uncertain it's bad.

I know some people who were occultists or into magic, but came to realize Ahlulbayt (a) in time and part of it was them delving into this stuff, they came to realize the true power and purified sustenance over the negative illusions of Iblis.

Ahlulbayt (a) prayers taught to us also teach us to veil by the name of God from all sights, as well to attack with it, with the sword of God and to create also shield barriers against dark magic.

This itself is white magic. Prayers and Islam from how western use the term magic, is white magic.

Tawasul to Ahlulbayt (a) is white magic.  Prophets (a) and Imams (a) from the way they use the term, we can say all are sorcerers but they wield their power from God and in a way that can only be sustained from God. The accusation in Quran was it was magic not acquired by God and their miracles were sorcery they themselves learned without need of God giving them such powers directly.

The disbelief really is when people equate it all and see Kings of God like Harut and Marut (peace be upon them) and Sulaiman (a) and Mohammad (s) as all sorcerers who acquired everything through knowledge and aren't directly sustained by God.

Iblis when he disbelieved in Adam (a) also disbelieved in the veils that communicate to him, and hence, reject Ahlulbayt (a) and the whole system, and so he has deceived himself that God is not the right God and that Ahlulbayt (a) acquired their power. He has deceived himself first and foremost. In reality, if he was honest with himself, he would repent and accept the Prophets (a) and Ahlulbayt (a), but he has deceived himself and believes he can one day find a champion from humans to overthrow the order of the universe.

He always choose one for himself to be Qareen, that is known as Yajuj and the followers of that person are known as Majuj in the revelation of Dul-Kifl (a).

The Arabs also accused Mohammad (s) of being a sorcerer and said to the truth when miracles came to them it's but magic.

On the day of judgment, Iblis, will say "nor can you save me", and indeed, his whole plot, was to eventually fight the Angels and Ahlulbayt (a) with enough power.  He really deceives himself that one day somebody or group from humans will learn enough magic and together he can overthrow Ahlulbayt (a).

The thing is he realized when Quran was revealed, it was very clear and assertive in many arguments against the soothsayers religion of his, and he cursed the Quran with dark magic on the hearts of Muslims and humans in general, so that it becomes difficult to understand.

Some of the human sorcerers are very well acquainted with hadiths of Ahlulbayt (a), and learn them, so they can block people from perceiving the right interpretation to Quran.

They believe that Ahlulbayt (a) are evil sorcerers and that they wish to control the world, and the Mahdi although alive, is not alive by God, and although has super powers, don't believe his power is from acquired but naturally acquired.

But what occurred with Ahlulbayt (a) is the many Jinn believe in Islam now, because, the power of Ahlulbayt (a) and how they augmented Angels (a) was so much, they said, no way, can this be acquired.

And before, they were able to ease drop on God's plans, but now they can't, and if they try, they get followed and attacked. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) always said disbelievers call Mohammad (s) a sorcerer and he contextualized it that they saw it as acquired or that he was possessed by Jinn and they performed the miracles.

But move to this century, and occultism from Arabia preMohammaed, (s) has spread in the west.  Gog and Magog didn't go away and there is always an Abu Lahab in each time - which is the Gog of the time.

The problem Mohammad (s) and Ahlulbayt (a) and Imam Mahdi (a) wants to connect people to sky/heaven/malakut, and they been given permission to anyone they can per a verse in Chapter Al-Anaam, but humans will accuse them mostly if they do, because Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) is something that conflicts with the desires of humans. We want to be able to get away with crimes, and we don't want to accept his anger, we hate anger and retribution.

The blindness in Suratal Israa is not that people will remain blind to the truth of the power of Prophets (s) not being naturally acquired sorcery, but they were so opposed to God and attack the hidden signs from a far place, it's too late and they won't be able to bow to God or do sujood or see his beauty and majesty when his power will be in display and when Ahlulbayts (a) from Adam's (a) all the way to Mohammad (s) will all be in clear display of power.

They will know it's true but won't be able to do a prayer, because the love of God is gone, and God can only be seen with love eyes, and so their prayers will be in thalal as Quran shows when they are in hell, it has no love. If it had any love Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) would accept it.

According to a Shiite hadith, there was a sorcerer who had much power and knowledge before he came to accept Ahlulbayt (a) and Islam, and he asked the Imam (a) how can he have all these powers but just watch and not help using them. The Imam (a) told him it's good to unbind (spells), but never bind (knots). In other words, never manipulate a human and control, rather, just free.

Magic is itself is a tool. Not all Sorcerers are evil, but, if people equate naturally gained power of magic with that of the power of the holy spirit in Prophets (a) and Kings (a) appointed by him, they will tend to gravitate towards Gog and Magog and not join the truthful.

Salam learning magic specifically black for people wih weak personality & low self estem is forbidden because it can causes great damage to their  faith or even worse loosing belief to Allah & commiting Shirk so only few people with strong personality & faith can accept risk of learning of any type of magic.

Tawasul has nor relation to any magic even white one but in contrast It's beyond any magic because It's connecting to divine power which is higher than magic & free from any uncleanness of any magic even white type of it .

Is it haram to look at or research magic?

Quote

In Islam, learning, teaching, and or getting paid to do magic is unlawful and haram. However if learning magic or witchcraft is for the purpose of nullifying it then it is not haram. Therefore watching the actions of magicians live, watching the actions of magicians in movies, researching books and magazines on magic, so long as they have no learning aspect involved, then there is no problem, unless it becomes haram from a different aspect; for example it causes the promotion of magic, etc.

The thirty-first sin that is clearly stated to be a Greater Sin is sorcery. A tradition from the Holy Prophet (S) has been recorded in Wasa’il ul-Shia in which the Prophet (S) has mentioned that Magic is a Greater Sin. The tradition of Abdul Azīm ((رضي الله عنه).) has also mentioned from Imam Jawad ((عليه السلام).) who has related through his fore-fathers from Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq ((عليه السلام).) that he said to the effect, “Sorcery is a Greater Sin because the Almighty Allah says in the Holy Qur’an:

“And they followed what the shaitans chanted of sorcery in the reign of Sulaiman, and Sulaiman was not an unbeliever, ....................................

Therefore, the Holy Qur’an has denounced their belief regarding Hazrat Sulaiman ((عليه السلام).) because sorcery is the method of misusing the power of human spirit in order to perform extraordinary acts. It is against the Divine law because it negates the supremacy of Allah ((سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى).).

During his conversation on this subject with Ma’mūn, as mentioned in Uyun al-Akhbar ar-Riďa, Imam Riďa ((عليه السلام).) says that Harut and Marut were two angels who had taught people the method of nullifying the magic of the sorcerers so as to enable them to prevent the effect of magical rites practiced by the magicians. They did not teach any magical spell before warning them that this was a Divine test and they must not fall prey to infidelity but some people became disbelievers by misusing the spells to cause discord between husband and wife, though the proper utility of the spell was obstructing black magic.

Imam Sadiq ((عليه السلام).) says:

“One who divines or the one who goes to a soothsayer for divination, (both) have renounced the religion of Muhammad (S).”8

Janabe Haitham enquired from Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq ((عليه السلام).), “There is a person we know who informs about stolen property etc. Is it permitted for us to seek his advice?”

The Holy Imam ((عليه السلام).) said,

“The Messenger of Allah (S) has mentioned that one who goes to a sorcerer, a soothsayer or a liar and testifies to what he says has become an infidel in the light of all the divine books revealed on Allah’s Messengers.”9

The powers of the magician are limited
When Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq ((عليه السلام).) had described the different varieties of magic to the one who had posed a question, the person asked Imam ((عليه السلام).) if it was possible for a magician to transform a human being into a dog or a pig etc.? Imam ((عليه السلام).) said,

“The magician cannot do this, because if he can transform the creations of Allah he will become a partner of Allah in His creation whereas no one can be a partner to Allah.”

If the magician had such powers he would have got rid of his own senility, difficulties and maladies and would not have allowed his hair to gray and would have removed his own poverty.

Actually the most dangerous kind of magic is that which causes differences between two friends. It creates hatred and malice between those who love each other. Such discord and dissension can also be created by instigating people against each other. The two are closely inter-related.

I sincerely believe learning how Iblis and his magic works and even to some degree becoming aware of medusa and how his forces entice the world, and the wife of Abu Lahab being the carrier of the wood, and getting to know all this, and how Abu Lahab of our time and his Wife who carries the wood of fire on humanity, rule, and becoming somewhat acquainted with demonology (the different forces of Iblis), not a bad idea.

The reason are as follows:

(1)You will understand the verses about soothsayers a lot, and the battle between good and evil per Quran will be better understood.

(2)You become aware of how your enemy operates which should help you repel them.

(3)Like you quoted the Marjaa, you can annul very bad spells with this knowledge, and there is du'as of Ahlulbayt (a) that I believe, work better if you are better acquainted with it.

For example, in Du'a against Seher we say we defend against their blows and repel them and attack them back. All this means, we should be aware of them and their presence.

Of course, we seek refuge that they should present themselves to us, but if they are on the attack on us and we have Du'as that teach how to repel those attacks, becoming aware of their different type of attacks is to our benefit.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

It varies person to person, but I want to say the Prophet (s) said that a Du'a without action, is like shooting bow without an arrow. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) will respond to us, but we have to act.

As for the believers who understand the power of Adam (a) all the way to the Mahdi (a) from the leaders of guidance chosen to bring us back to God, they have an advantage in that they realize the family of the reminder of the time is a place of refuge and will become missiles against Iblis forces if we ask God believing what the divine books said about it.

You should know that the power of Imam Mahdi is that he God's word of light by which he illuminates all things and guides back all creation, everything in universe that glorifies God, every type of creation, does so through the name of God.

You should also know per our ahadith, even animals, choose between good and evil, as confirmed by Quran, and even particles that have to obey God in physical universe just like we can't by pass physical limitations by universe and God's rules in them, choose between good and evil.

There are things that are averse to submission to God, and obey God in the same way the devils had to obey Sulaiman (a) when Sulaiman (a) forced them.

Sulaiman (a) authority was displayed, so that humans and Jinn know, that obedience to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) cannot be forced. Despite statues that were miracles he build (the sheer size) and other signs he had, the majority after his death accused him of sorcery and attributed him a book of dark magic from Satan and said that is how he attained his power.

You should know the devils are afraid of Imam Mahdi (a) in the same way the devils during Sulaiman (a) time are afraid of him, and that he (ajf) is a connection between the heaven/sky which Mohammad (s) resides in and this world.

Ahlulbayt (a) per a Du'a taught by Imam Reda (a) are with us in hardship and ease, sleep and wake, everywhere we go, and every state whether we fall or rise, whether we obey or disobey.

The Du'a of Fatima (a) teaching us to ask God to make Ahlulbayt (a) hear our calls and intercede for us, is that, we ask God for them to respond to our calls and hear us, not that they don't already hear us and witness us.

One of the most common ways God gives refuge through his name, is that  Ahlulbaytt (a) give refuge to the believers by God's permission, by simply creating a leaf of light which the believer can then use to fend of or barrier against Iblis forces entice to sin.

Sometimes we are in need of light proofs and so Ahlulbayt (a) do that as well Angels (a) per their command, per God's permission and command.

As for what they really want to do but can't for most humans, even if they recite that, is to connect us by the greatest sign by open a portal (door) to the sky reality and bringing us a sign. Even though Prophet (S) been commanded to that if he can, most people he was unable to including Muslims of his time.

The reason is because we have to travel to that with love but if we are averse and brought to faith in it while averse to augmenting our faith and traveling at our pace, it can lead to disbelief and rebellion and thinking bad things about Ahlulbayt (a) as do the devils and sorcerers from Magog already do.

Therefore it takes actions too, and love and effort and struggle, so that Mohammad (s) and his family (a) can connect us and bring us to the safe haven where we can even become aware of plans from God and be hidden from the vision of enemies.

With peace and blessings brother Layman.

Jinn were placed in a position parallel to humanity and a pact was established a long long time ago between al ins wa jinn that the veil separating the two worlds will be honored and never breached...this protocol was upheld for eons and eons until troublemakers from both sides started tampering and poking holes through the dimensions

When we say "i seek refuge with Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى)...", there will be Light of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) immediately emerges within the self. The Light removes darkness (syaitans) in our heart, souls and physical body.  The more sincere we are, the Brighter will be the Brightness of the Light and more parts of darkness in us will be cleared.

If Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) gives us permission, we can see  the Light and witness how it removes syaitans that residing in us.  If we have witnessed it, i am sure we always seek protection from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى).

How many of us seek refuge with Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) by reading

أَعُوْذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطٰانِ الرَّجِيْمِ

on daily basis before reading Bismillahi Rahmaani Raheem.  If we don't, likely Syaitans have successfully make us forget to protect ourself from their evils.  Our defense is weak and we don't have shield.

May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) protect us all.

أَعُوْذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطٰانِ الرَّجِيْمِ

Doesn’t the same basic principle apply to proper Islamic practice: that even if one were to follow the rituals of Islam, if one’s intentions were impure, then the rituals would be of no lasting import? Furthermore, if “white” magic was taught by Hārūt and Mārūt to undo the effects of “black” magic, then is the performance of “white” magic condoned or sanctioned under certain conditions, that is, to undo harm caused by “black” magic? Also, if I understand correctly, the Ahl’ al-Bayt serve as conduits of Allah’s will or intercessors between Allah and creation, in terms of their capacity to hear and respond conditionally to creation, per Allah’s will. If that is the case, then other creatures can serve as conduits for carrying out Allah’s will. Weren’t the Muslim jinn acting as agents of Allah as soon as they submitted to His Representative, Prophet Solomon?

Correct, of little or no lasting consequence or import

My understanding is that Hārūt and Mārūt were the original bringers of magic / sorcery / witchcraft and that they were a test and a trial for the people...

"They followed what the Shayāṭīn (i.e. demons) gave out, in the Mulki Sulaymān (مُلْكِ سُلَيْمَان, Kingdom of Solomon). Sulaymān did not disbelieve, but the Shayāṭīn disbelieved, teaching men magic and such things that came down upon al-Malakayn bi-Bābil (ٱلْمَلَكَيْن بِبَابِل, the Two Angels in Babylon), Hārūt and Mārūt, but neither of these two taught anyone, till they had said, "We are only a Fitnah (i.e. trial), so do not disbelieve." And from these, people learn that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife (i.e. black magic), but they could not thus harm anyone except by the Leave of Allāh. And they learn that which harms them and profits them not. And indeed they knew that the buyers of it (i.e. black magic) would have no share in the Ākhirah (Hereafter). And how bad indeed was that for which they sold their own souls, if they but knew!" — The Qur'an, 2: 102.

Well, although that's not our language I suppose one could consider Islamic acts of worship (e.g. prayer, fasting, charity etc.) as types of 'white magic'...certain surahs and ayat are known to repel sihir, ayn al-hasüd etc. and their effects...only Prophets and Imams are allowed to interact with jinn...laymen are prohibited even if their aims are noble

Bismillahi irrahman irrahiim

Assalamu aleikum

Stay away from this evil practice! It spoils the heart.

The Holy Prophet (S) says:

“One who believes an astrologer and soothsayer has disbelieved in whatever was revealed upon Muhammad (SAAS).

Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq ((عليه السلام).) says:

Accursed is the astrologer and accursed is the soothsayer and accursed is the magician.
