US Soccer Federation removes 'Allah' from Iranian flag

Quote

The U.S. Soccer Federation briefly displayed Iran’s national flag on social media without the emblem of the Islamic Republic, saying the move supported protesters in Iran ahead of the two nations’ World Cup match Tuesday.

Iran’s government reacted by accusing America of removing the name of God from its national flag.

According to Mashreq, in the match between the national teams of Portugal and Uruguay, a Jimmy Jump jumped into the field and disrupted the game for a few moments. The words "Respect for Iranian woman" has been printed on the back of this Jimmy Jump dress.

Daniyal Memar, a media activist, wrote in a tweet:

They are also proud that gays supported them

The contrast between the cheetah as the symbol of the Iranian national team and the eagle, which is the symbol of the American national team, stands out in the background of this poster.

Peaceful journalist or murderous soldier?+ movie

According to Mashreq,Libaniran Telegram channel shared a video and wrote:

Peaceful journalist or murderous soldier?

34-year-old Guy Hochman, the commander of the 932nd Nahal Brigade of the Zionist Army, serves in a unit that killed thousands of Palestinians in the first and second intifadas and participated in wars that killed families in Gaza.

Guy always participates in army programs and supports it in cyber space. But in the World Cup,he has shown itself to be an Israeli pacifist.

This is the true face of Israel and its peacefulness.

33rd country in World Cup

Quote

Looking at the abundant number of Palestinian flags, seeing the Palestinian armbands and bracelets, and hearing the “free Palestine” chants at the stadiums, fan zones, in the streets and on social media, one may think that Palestine is among the 32 countries whose teams have participated in this World Cup. Indeed, some Latin American media outlets have branded it the “33rd country” at the tournament.

Surprised to see this on al-Jazeera

Opinion piece about the World Cup and pro-Palestinian protests

Quote

Arabs have known it all along: normalisation and peace deals are only valid on paper with governments that do not represent the people. Their hearts remain with Palestine until Palestinians become free, which will only happen when the rest of the region is also free.

The survival of the Israeli apartheid state is essentially dependent on dictatorial anti-democratic regimes that turn a deaf ear to the voices of their people on all things freedom, including Palestine.

That's pretty trenchant criticism of their own government.

It's not only the article, but Al-Jazeera is also taking Israel to the International Criminal Court over the murder of their journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. I thought Al-Jazeera was US-Israel-Saudi funded, but this surprised me.

France vs. Morocco match

Political angle

Quote

Of course, an Algeria-France semi-final would have been even more complicated, with the lingering bitter memory of outbursts during the not-so-friendly match held in October 2001 at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, north of Paris. Things are not so tense with the Moroccans and none of the five previous France-Morocco encounters have raised the slightest difficulty. History explains the difference: While Moroccan independence was obtained in 1956 following a 44-year protectorate and did see some violence, there is no comparison with the long, deadly and unforgotten Algerian war that lasted from 1954 to 1962.

Macron accused of milking it

Masterclass in being a politician, in my opinion. The second comment refers to Mbappe not acknowledging Macon's presence at all.

I was at westfield(massive shopping centre) during the extra time of the finale, and the match was being played on a big tv in EE(a company that sells phones and contracts), and the workers were huddled together with other shoppers including myself who went to watch because of the screams I heard coming from the store, and the screams and genuine excitement make me regret I didn't watch a few matches in a large group just for the hype.

This is not good

Western media is pre-occupied with Islam, but the following has little to do with religion and could be a cause of future problems in its own right.

Said Saddiki, a professor of international relations at Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University in Fes, said that emigrants from Morocco, like other diasporas from the Maghreb, feel a durable attachment to their homeland.

"This strong relationship appears in major public events such as football matches," he told MEE.

"An example of this is the riots that take place in Paris or Brussels when a Maghrebi team wins or loses in a big match."

Following Morocco's 2-0 upset win over Belgium, riots broke out in several Belgian and Dutch cities.

Macron's speech to the players after the match

OK he's a politician, and milking it, but emotional nonetheless.
