There's an interesting statement about confession in a narration in this chapter.

وَالله مَا خَرَجَ عَبْدٌ مِنْ ذَنْبٍ إِلا بِالإقْرَارِ

It's possible that instead of "الإقْرَارِ"

"الإعْتِرَافُ" would be the correct term. I am not quite sure if these two terms have different implications or not. They're both translated as "confession".

However, that's not the point I'd like to bring attention to.

What's quite interesting is the following:

"By Allah, no servant (of Allah) can come out of sins without confession."

When we commit a sin, it "envelopes" us, or "covers" us, or "swallows" us. To exit the sin, to "take it off of us", we must confess to it, and we confess to Allah. Confession or acknowledgment of our sin is a necessary requirement for the sin to cease affecting us and for us to be forgiven.

The sin doesn't enter us; it covers us. It affects our perceptions; it affects how people see us, and how we represent ourselves. It becomes a layer between us and the world and through it we see and interact with the world.
