Could these people described as resembling sun and moon worshipers be Japanese people? If I'm not mistaken, the major gods in their shinto religion are sun and moon gods. And this is just a feeling, but I think Islam would fit them like a glove to a hand. While they are secular, they aren't mufsideen like the west. And they are remarkably honest and group-over-individual orientated. I wouldn't be surprised if they were big supporters of the Imam (عليه السلام) when the time comes.

Just a theory.

Salam it's possible anyway eastern religions likeise Shinto have Sun & moon gods anyway crescent of moon  mostly is symbol of Sunnis  which in similar fashion Sun is symbol of Shia muslims anyway it's possible that Japanese peole accept Islam based on their humbleness & moral ancestral teachings  in opposition of western culture liewise secularism & etc however Sunnis specially wahabi prechers have been highly active in Japan & Korea & etc while Shias have not had any activity there.

There are different names or titles for Al-Yamani in different traditions...Al Yamani is "Hassan" and/or "Husayn" and/or "Saeed" and/or "Mansour" and/or "Nasr"...now put Hassan and Nasr together and what do you get??…Hassan + Nasr = (Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah)??...the Prophet (peace be upon him) called him "Nasr"...Also, Shi'i ahadith mention two groups fighting on the side of haqq...but one group fights on the right side while simultaneously calling people to the Mahdi...the other side (likewise) fights on the true side but remains quiet with regard to the Mahdi...Al-Yamani is mentioned as someone who invites people to the Imam al-Mahdi (a)...Two Yamanis will arise...the one from Yemen will fight the Sufyani but will not support Imam Mahdi's movement...interesting note, is that our Zaydi brethren don't believe in the concept of a Mahdi-like figure arising...they (Zaydis) don't adhere to the same Messianic worldview that the Twelvers uphold

Salam I don't know how you have reached to this conclusion while in all shia hadiths it has been mentioned that everyone who denies invite of Yemani so then he will be cursed & enemy of Imam Mahdi (aj)  which it indicated clearly that he  surly will support Imam Mahdi's movement anyway Zaydis have different viewpoint about the concept of a Mahdi-like figure arising which Jarudiya Zaydis  viewpoint is most near viewpoint to Twelver viewpoint which Zaydis have confused due to calling some of their leaders as promised Mahdi & affecting with heavy influnce of wahabis over Yemen before Islamic revolution of Iran .

he Twelfth Imam in the Zaidi Traditions

The Zaidi sect, the Jarudiyyah, narrates many traditions attributed to the Prophet and al-Baqir concerning the political role of the Twelfth Imam. One of their distinguished scholars in Kufa was Abu Said `Abbad b. Ya’qub al-Rawajini al-`Asfari (d. 250/864).(1) He wrote a book entitled Kitab Akhbar al-Mahdi. (2) Al-Dhahabireports that `Abbad was a Rafidite propagandist, and was awaiting the rise of al-Mahdi in the near future. He used to carry a sword, and once said that he kept his sword ready in order to fight for al-Mahdi. (3) It is worth mentioning that `Abbad held this view before the occultation of the Twelfth Imam in 260/874 since he died in 250/864. (4) He reports three Prophetic traditions concerning the Twelfth Imam. Below are two of them:

1)The Prophet is believed to have said, “From my descendants there will be eleven leaders [who will be] noble, receivers of tradition [and] possessed of knowledge, the last of whom will be `al-Qaim bil-Haqq’ who will fill it [i.e. the world] with justice, just as it was filled with tyranny. (5)

2)The Prophet is reported to have said: “I and eleven of my descendants and you, O ‘Ali, are the axis of the earth, that is, its tent pegs and its mountains. By us, Allah has secured the world so that it will not sink with its people. For when the eleventh of my descendants have died the world shall sink with its people without warning. (6)

5. al-`Asfari, Asl Abu Said al-`Asfari, Ms. f. 1-2.

6. al-`Asfari, Asl Abu Said al-`Asfari, f. 2. Al-Kulayni includes these traditions in his work al-Hujja but, according to his transmission, the Prophet mentioned twelve Imams from his descendants and not eleven. Thus the number of the Imams along with `Ali would-be thirteen. Because al-Kulayni transmitted his narration on the authority of al-`Asfari, it appears that the latter’s version is more accurate. al-Kafi, 1, 533-4.

Moreover, the graves of your death will be opened and predatory animals will attack your houses. Afterwards, a fair-complexioned man will install a chair in Mecca calling people to curse `Ali b. Abi Talib, and killing many people, but he will be killed on the same day. (7)

According to `Ali b. al-Husayn b. al-Qasim al-Kharraz (d. ca. 250/864) all these signs occurred during the revolt of Yahya b. `Umar in 250/864. As a result, some Shiites, particularly the Jarudiyya, believed that the leader of this revolt, Yahya b. `Umar was himself al-Qaimal-Mahdi. (8)

The above mentioned prophecy reflects a promised parallelism: The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) foretold that what all befell the Israelites, their likes would inevitably befall his Ummah, just as the sandal parallels its pair (the reason behind the Israelites being the most talked about past Ummah in the Qur‘ān).

It's part of sunnatullāh (the divine pattern), and Allah said: "you'll never find any alternative for the divine pattern, and you'll never find any alteration in the divine pattern".

How and where and why this particular parallel might unfold as part of the divine pattern:

Part of the answer is here

Another important thing to remember is that the primary prophecy in this regard mentions the betrayal of Islam by many or important people claiming to be its followers, and the likes of Sun & Moon worshippers becoming a rallying force behind Islam under the leadership of Imam Mahdi (عليه السلام); a corroborating prophecy suggests the betrayers to be Arabians involved in a tripartite Arabian civil war during which a great power from the East rises to intervene under the leadership of Imam Mahdi (عليه السلام), decisively crushes the anti-Mahdi Arab powers and breaks the middle eastern impasse. Sorry to say but Japan neither fits in the above mentioned part of the divine pattern i.e. the promised Israelite-Muhammadan parallelism, nor the mentioned attributes other than sun & moon worship.

A short video in this regard:

As for what might trigger such unexpected, revolutionary & astounding changes sidelining the now dominant islamophobic fascists there and then leading the world's fourth mightiest military power to play the prophesied decisive role as the game-changer in the conflict native to the middle east since over a millennium, the following essay & videos might help to understand:

(Strangely enough, at the height of Islamophobia in India, Iran-India relations have remained robust and intact despite the rise of islamophobes to power 12 years ago, also the islamophobes in power there have failed to change India's decades-old official foreign policy of supporting the demand for an independent sovereign secure Palestinian state, owing to which even modi the face of Islamophobia in India who became the 1st Indian premier to visit israel in July 2017, had to visit the Palestinian Authority capital Ramallah in Feb 2018 following India's official foreign policy protocol.)
