I know there arent any hadiths that specifically say what sort of punishment should be given homosexual activity so the same sentence as zina is applied. But are there any that say anything about same gendered marriage?

Same gender marriage simply doesn't exist in Islam or in most religions for that matter.

Marriage by definition is between a man and a woman.

Even if two people of the same gender sat down and had a nikah recited, it has no meaning or relevance.

Obviously if two people of the same gender behaved in a lewd manner with each other then you already know the relevant rulings. Considering themselves married or unmarried doesn't have any impact.

I guess Allah considered this too obvious and trivial to provide a direct hadith. Far left Muslims will start to claim that homo is allowed since there's no direct ruling for it lol

Or rephrasing: why can marriage only happen between a man and a woman? Is this addressed in the Qur'an or hadiths?

“Oh men! Behold, We have created you all out of a male and a female, and have made you into nations and tribes, so that you might come to know one another. Verily, the noblest of you in the sight of Allah is the one who is most deeply conscious of Him. Behold, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware” (Quran 49:13).

The Holy Qur'an says:

"And one of His signs is that He created for you mates from among yourselves that you may dwell in tranquility with them, and He put between you love and compassion; most surely there are signs for a people who reflect."(Holy Qur’an, 30:21).

In another verse, the obedient married women are described:

"...there fore the righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husband's) absence what God would have them guard." (Holy Qur’an, 4:34).

Many obvious verses can be quoted in this regard.

The following verses for the nation of Lut apply to homo:

As a prophet of God, Lut preached to his people. We also sent Lut. He said to his people: 'Will you commit lewdness such as no people in creation ever committed before you? For you come in lust to men in preference to women. No, you are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds' (Qur'an 7:80-81). In another verse, Lut advised them: 'Of all the creatures in the world, will you approach males, and leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your mates? No, you are a people transgressing (all limits)!' (Qur'an 26:165-166). The people rejected Lut and threw him out of the city. In response, God destroyed them as punishment for their transgressions and disobedience.

Muslim scholars cite these verses to support a prohibition against homosexual behavior.

The People of Lut and The City which was Turned Upside Down

The people of Lut rejected (his) warning. We sent against them a violent Tornado with showers of stones, (which destroyed them), except Lut's household: them We delivered by early Dawn,-  As a Grace from Us: thus do We reward those who give thanks. And (Lut) did warn them of Our Punishment, but they disputed about the Warning. (Surat al-Qamar:, 33-36)

And (remember) Lut: behold, he said to his people: “Ye do commit lewdness, such as no people in Creation (ever) committed before you. Do ye indeed approach men, and cut off the highway?- and practise wickedness (even) in your councils?” But his people gave no answer but this: they said: “Bring us the Wrath of Allah if thou tellest the truth.” (Surat al-Ankaboot: 28-29)

The verses describe the destruction of this people as follows;

But the (mighty) Blast overtook them before morning, And We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay. Behold! in this are Signs for those who by tokens do understand. And the (cities were) right on the high-road. (Surat al-Hijr: 73-76)

When Our Decree issued, We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay, spread, layer on layer,-Marked as from thy Lord: Nor are they ever far from those who do wrong! (Surah Hud: 82-83)

But the rest We destroyed utterly. We rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): and evil was the shower on those who were admonished (but heeded not)! : Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. (Surat ash-Shuara: 172-175)

Thus the above provide the clear evidence that homosexuality is intolerable act that needs to be eradicated from the society

As far as I know, according to sharia, if two of the same gender get married, then the marriage is invalid.
However on a personal note I think it is better to be in a committed relationship even for homosexuals than for them to do their lewd stuff in the bushes or in public restrooms with whom ever passes by. I don't think though that Islamic jurists will allow for same sex marriage any time soon. It would be a slippery slope to eventually accepting homosexual acts. Which would of cause be against the Quran.

many sayings of ameerul momineen ali (عليه السلام) say that their penalty is "death in the public place". for reference see books on the judgements of imam ali (عليه السلام) or see an islamic book of jurisprudence.
