Who should pay for rent in a relationship ?

In a relationship, who do you think should pay the rent? What is the best way for a couple to arrange their financial expenditure?

Islamically i believe the man is required to pay all living expenses. A wife can spend her entire salary on herself if she wishes (although this isn't the best way to run a marriage). A man should be prepared to pay all the bills but of course if the wife chooses to splits living costs then it would be better

It is an obligation of the husband. The couple can arrange this however they agree, of course, but without any such agreement it remains the husband's duty.

Man. Though, his wife can assist him if they have an agreement.

As a husband and wife? The husband 100% of the time. Allah says in Surah Nisa', verse 34:

Men are in charge of women because Allah has made one excel the other, and because they spend their wealth [on women].

This is indicative that the man must spend due to Allah appointing the man over the woman.
